  1. I think the committment issue is paramount. If we took Buckley and he still had half an eye on Tassie he might bolt in 2 or 3 of years when Tassie might actually have a team (or being closer to player related decisions at least). Particularly if things weren't going well at Melb.
  2. I looked at the vision and there certainly was no deliberate attempt to injure, not even much carelessness, no sign of White attempting to take possession of the ball. White was hit because there was an unusual hook and long follow through of the kick across King's body. Was there a 'kicking in danger' free paid? A genuine football act, unlike some we all recall.
  3. Good grief. Some always look for the speculative negative even when there is a perfectly good speculative positive which is just as likely. If it is true that Buckley wanted to wait in case Tassie came through then that is a big negative for him and a positive for us in putting the question to him. Of course I'm only speculating , not having any inside info.
  4. Surely it's the other way around - we don't want our news lost in the GF/Brownlow tsunami.
  5. I wouldn't read too much into that and what happens in 2026. I'd say he is just not an inspiring public speaker.
  6. You forgot the comma in the last sentence.
  7. A lot I agree with there. Separating ruckmen by 10m at boundary throw-ins would be a pleasure to watch. And as I posted elsewhere, the stand rule is an abomination. I defy anyone to deduce what the rule actually is by watching what happens in a game. Monoccular is right on. But it's even worse because of inconsistent application. The following won't be popular in the desperate pressure to increase scoring these days, and a concern it will slow play, but....: What about abandoning all these out of bounds rules entirely. No penalty if a defender kicks it out on the full or otherwise or deliberately. Just part of the game's tactics to boot it out however and whenever you like. No need for umps to read players' minds anywhere on the field or for fans to get frustrated. If you combine this with Monoccular's suggestion about 10m separation for rucks or just throw it in quickly and allow any (single) player from each team to go for the ball, that might mean play wouldn't be slowed by allowing more throw-ins. Too radical?
  8. Don't get me started on the 'stand' rule and 5m rule. I defy anyone to work out what the rule is by simply observing what actually happens.
  9. I agree @YoungBlood. I cringe when I see our players doing that sort of stuff.
  10. I don't follow US football, but I guess they don't have commentators revelling in a bit of biffo and melees like we do.
  11. The replay is now up on the AFL site. https://www.afl.com.au/vfl/matches/8007 Pity you have to see the score before you click the play button. What is the AFL thinking!?
  12. Coach calls for huge fines to stamp out AFL players stagi...Dockers coach Justin Longmuir says the AFL should issue fines of up to $10,000 to players for staging. How about instead the AFL first clamps down on pushing and shoving by players trying to show how tough they are and to trying to intimidate oppos. It has nothing to do with actually playing footy. Show how tough you are by going in hard for the ball rather than pushing and jumper punching off the ball. Or showing how poor a sport you are by shoving the oppo who just gave away a free kick to you to mock them. I know this will not be popular with some. Doubtless in the past some thought punching someone in the head off the ball was 'just part of the game'.
  13. I see on the AFL site some VFL final games have full replays, but currently the Casey-Frankston only has highlights. What really gets me that in order to find the link to click on to see a replay, you have to see the final score!!!!!
  14. No they don't. If a judge discovers they are a relative (or a friend) of the accused, they recuse themselves from the case. The AFL instead apppoints 'relatives' (especially of a certain club) as judges.
  15. What's worse - booing a victim of a slur, falsely thinking he was responsible for reporting it, or cheering a thug who has just ended another player's career and probably affected his future life?
  16. Sometimes silence is louder than words.
  17. Try archive.is and enter the URL
  18. I'm surprised Caro hasn't suggested Buckley AND the Demons go to Tassie. After all, there's little difference between a Demon and a Devil and there'd be one less Vic team for Richmond to worry about.
  19. sue replied to Romey's topic in Melbourne Demons
If it was impossible to reconfigure, it wouldn't be totally stupid to have some material layed out for the players to walk over and taken away when they have finished. I suggest red carpet.
  20. I was under the impression that the attacking ruck was allowed to do so and score a point? But that doesn't makes sense. (That's why I think it may be true @AFLrules).
  21. I’d prefer any amount of supporter screeching to these commentators. Endless analysis and amateur coaching and only occasionally saying who the players are.
  22. Isn't it a free against if the defending ruck knocks it through?
  23. OD - I think I did say they built these thinsg to make money. The endless expansion of the original service to dominate everthing and the drowning of the original service in extraneous areas is my main beef. As for you saying the problem not being the social media/algorithm but stupid people: There will always be stupid people but now they are getting organised and fed dangerous rubbish in a way never before possible, so there is a problem for the rest of us.
  24. Haven't been hijacked? Even google search which used to just search the web for you, started drowning you in ads etc before you get search results. Doubtless facebook at al always planned to make money, but the big IT firms all expand from their original focus (eg connecting friends) and now have news feeds and marketplaces and try to get a foothold in everything. I'd say they have been hijacked by themselves.
  25. Might explain a delay in posting.
