  1. I'm surprised that the AFL doesn't return to that model (with teleconferencing for interstate players). Think of all the extra media attention the AFL would get. They would get a large audience to follow the proceedings live.
  2. I agree. However a good deal of the legal system (outside football) puts weight on outcome. Punch someone and they just fall over and it is just assault, but if they hit their head on the way down and die you are lucky to get off with manslaughter. But at least there the offender has a chance to make a defense in mitigation, unlike the MRP. Chris' suggestion that you can appeal the severity without extra penalty is a good one, though still may get too many unrealistic appeals. Maybe solution would be to have a cash penalty for a lost severity appeal one to make players think twice.
  3. Almost everyone has said what they did was dumb and deserve suspension. But to say you couldn't care less about MRP inconsistencies is just ridiculous. I don't suppose you'd say the same if they were rubbed out for 6 game and another incident where someone was carried off unconcious after being dliberately kicked in the head just got a fine. Discussing the MRP's notorious inconsistencies is perfectly legitimate. While accepting the bans, I hope the MFC says something in private whenever appropriate.
  4. Really? I'd rather hear the umps than the commentary.
  5. umm, not that simple. You have to have a large number of supporters to seduce Ch 7 and the advertising $. Winning games over decades is required to get those numbers.
  6. nah, they've just stopped enforcing it. For the moment.
  7. Starting?! Where have you been?
  8. I'd expect he'd say that Geelong also may plan their selections partly around more than just the immediate game. The key word is partly. Probably affects only a selection or two at most. A 'compromise on selection' isn't taboo in itself - eg. ensuring young players are rested, or played over older guys to give them experience; both may risk weakening the team in the coming match.
  9. Sorry Satan, my maths ability has it holes but the percentage at the end of the year just involves the totals over the year. So it doesn't matter when in the year you add to the totals in the for and against columns. It just seems that way if you start with a 200% and watch it gradually drift down. Just need to pull off some big wins and if we lose, lose by as little as possible.
  10. But his performance as a leader over the entire 120minutes next week will be rather hard to spot as a result of his stupidity.
  11. damn, and I thought I could guilt-trip you into providing that private jet.
  12. yes, but you might expect a decent service at a reasonable price. AFL app is not a decent service. Foxtel is expensive since you can't just buy what you want. I'd love to go to all the games too - please loan me your private jet OD.
  13. BT's commentary is either inane or insane. I suspect he only gets the job so that the stupidest amongst us can feel there is someone stupider.
  14. Only seen it once quickly but it didn't look like an elbow as some have said. More like a wrap of arm around the head - not that defends a silly act.
  15. While we weren't playing well in Q1, St Kilda did get a couple of freaskish goals where the ball could have gone out rather than end up through the goals. Good to see team didn't let it faze them.
  16. Probably just like the Chinese swimming team is reported in China. But I wonder if they pretend to have the moral high ground when others cheat like we do.
  17. Wasn't so much a case of third man up as man in the way. Hasn't that always been liable to lead to a free?
  18. Surely it is a wise policy to wait till the last minute. What if the rookie is run over by a bus after he's been promoted?(or injured at training/gym).
  19. It is perfectly reasonable to make people aware of the option along with the negatives that others have pointed out. As much as I hate Crown, would you object to people posting that there is an AFL Live app if you register with Telstra? I'd be only too happy to be told of an option to rip off Crown.
  20. All that finding space on his own and no one kicks it to him puts him too far away from opponents to apply pressure.
  21. Any actual football examples? Or just your usual political bias popping up where it's not wanted?
  22. As distinct from those other clubs where the members have money to throw away on membership fees.
  23. Someone posted that Crownbet forced you to have an active betting account, not just a sleeping account You are definitely saying that is not the case?
  24. By god I hope you are right, but it doesn't sound like a way to motivate someone to me. Especilly someone who didn't seem to need motivating in the first place. Or were you being ironic?
  25. From what Jones has said, it does at raise concerns about Goodwin's approach. Add to that the Watts situation (where if it was Neeld, people would be blaming the coach for the player's poor attitude). If Jones & Watts play well then the coach gets a big tick. If they don't and we are also losing games, watch all hell break loose on here whether justified or not. Let's hope Goodwin knows what he is doing and it all works out well.
