  1. I'm not sure if this breaks the site's code of conduct but I think they deserve it: http://www.hankooktyre.com.au I need a new set of tyres.
  2. I hate this mentality, I don't see why it has to be that a club folds/merges/moves at all... Nor do I see the benefit for us if one or both of the other small clubs fail. It seems common in the football public to somehow confuse a competitive nature on the field with some desire to "beat" the teams off the field. I also don't pay that AFL is a business, because ultimately I don't see how the AFL benefits from having fewer Melboure based clubs. In fact I think it would be fantastic to have more clubs, that reach further around Australia. One in Tazzie, one on the gold coast, Western Sydney.....
  3. Isn't it that the membership services for many of the clubs (particularly smaller ones) are all managed by a single outfit. So it costs less for Melbourne. Unfortunate, but I wouldn't go getting upset about it.
  4. Casey: Estimated population under 15: 26000 Frankston: Estimated population under 15: 12000 EDIT: and for you I'va percentage population over 60 in Mornington Peninsula: 24.7% which is 15th in Victorian municipalities, nothing like the 38% of Queenscliffe though. and just for reference Casey is @ 11%, Frankston 16%
  5. If you need to brighten up your day: http://bigpondvideo.com/afl/112655 Grand ol' flag, after Brisbane game. The most pleasing aspect of this was how young they all are, happy days ahead I think.
  6. I just don't get why they don't televise these games, surely thee would get more viewers than half of the other stuff they put on TV.
  7. While I take your point regarding them signing up to a deal they now regret I cannot agree with you. The system is broken, it needs to be fixed and if 'whinging' is the way to get there then whinge away.
  8. If we don't have a long term injury by round 4 I would be pleasantly surprised, if we do then we get to see some more of him. Win-Win situation.
  9. And just in time, now we need an demonland iphone app. Or at least a mobile friendly version of demonland on a web browser. I'm a big apple sceptic, but the iPhone is just fantastic.
  10. FF seems to me like the youth arm of Mates of Melbourne
  11. Yep, i'm pretty sure they would move the grand final to a sunday if we ever made it.
  12. I second that. But you could still purchase toys and food though.
  13. Well put. It isn't in the AFL's interest to punish them, so why would they. It really makes me wonder why I follow AFL sometimes.
  14. I tend to think we are behind Richmond for this year but will overtake them soon. I was surprised at how bad they were at the end of that game. Overall I thought the quality of their game was higher, though this tends to happen when intensity is down and the coaches flood their backlines. They have a number of players they rely on in every age category, which will work in their favour this year but soon they will lose the older ones: Richo, Brown, Bowden and Cousins, and that will leave a bigger hole than the one that was left for us at the end of 2006. Deledio would be the best player on our list if he played for us.
  15. It seems to me to be a policy that all these young kids aren't thrown in the deep end. I would actually rather seem them play, perhaps not in the regular season but at least in the NAB cup. I understand the argument, I just think they would be better served by playing a game here and there.
  16. But these are the folks that love their footy the most. Though I tend to agree.
  17. I am thinking about getting a table together but I won't be able to make 10 (i probably have 2-4 at the moment) if anyone is interested please PM me.
  18. What we need is to market the game to the locals as much as possible, maybe even create a carnival sort of an atmosphere with jumping castles and other features that will bring the kiddies in. Provide membership packaeges at a one time discount to entice them in. I would even consider a door knock of the local area, by demon volunteers. It is the single greatest event this year that will expose Melbourne to natives, investment now will pay dividends for 30 years.
  19. So he should, what a man!
  20. I don't think we will have to wait long for a LTI, i'm not sure how many we average a year but it feels like 5. Newton has a Long Term Inability, does that count?
  21. Which team cheer squad did you join? A great idea, very crafty of you.
  22. I would like to see the website moved out of under the AFL-Telstra deal. Simplified and given a more supporter oriented approach, including a forum section (maybe build demonland into it). Have our own videos, with our own ads by our own sponsors. Without major changes the website will always be the same to me, it will be the website i visit when someone here posts a link to an article on it. I pretty much only come to demonland, but I come here a lot, and if the MFC website was a 1 stop shop for my demon related internet needs I would go there a lot. I don't know the financial agreements we're currently in, or how much it costs to run such a website but it won't grow into anything more than it is under the current arrangement, and growth should be the major priority for all facets of MFC. While the club is losing "clicks" to demonland/ology (many thousands by me alone, daily) they are losing growth, in what is the new frontier of football media. Edit: Also an iphone friendly version would be great, mark my words, everyone under 25 will have iphone-like phone in 3-4 years, and they will be browsing the net with them. Edit 2: speaking of iphones, we need an iphone application that is demons specific, I have been thinking of an app I could write and this could be perfect. I just can't figure out anything good to write into it... this needs some thought.
  23. He is a good tagger, and good taggers sometimes extend themselves to be decent players. That is what I expect of Dunn.
  24. He didn't say that Pavlich should leave, he said farmer should have left, I agree that farmer is old news but I just found it interesting how much he rates/rated some of his old players. As it happens, I agree with him, Pavlich IMHO is the best forward in the game, Farmer would have been a much better player had he Left Freo, in fact leaving Perth probably would have been the key to a much less maligned career. I also think Connels was a decent coach, his record was commendable, my criticism of him would centre around his lack of a "hard line". In fact I imagine that had Freo developed a strong leadership group they may have seen more success. Instead they fire the coach, hire a new one with a "hard line" but with little else to speak of and then bomb out.
  25. I overheard Connels talking up Freo the other day. He reckons they are a lot better than they performed last year. THought Pavlich is the best forward in the game, and that Farmer was a fantastic player, but had to get out of the club to reach that potential.
