  1. Good es, bru.
  2. Yep: https://afltables.com/afl/stats/games/1978/061119780408.html
  3. Just a slight nitpick here- our terrible percentage is almost entirely due to getting belted by Geelong. If we’d scored another 80 points and only lost by a narrow margin, with everything else remaining the same, our percentage would be in the mid 80s. While obviously still far from good, it would be well within the expected range for a team that is 3-8. A big one or two and no more blowouts would get our percentage well back on track.
  4. It’s only picket fence, and it’s because he (picket fence) is a madman.
  5. There’s no issue with not knowing who she is. I haven’t paid that much attention to the AFLW either - although I do know of Lily Mithen as she gets a fair bit of press on the MFC online presence. It’s more around those posting ā€œwho?ā€ and the like when it could obviously be inferred from the context of the thread. It goes from genuine ignorance to intentional ignorance. Pretty rude IMO and the only reasons I can think of that one might do that are pretty sinister.
  6. My other favourite is SJW. My goodness, you wouldn’t want to be seen fighting for the justice of others ?
  7. To you it’s politics. To Goodes it’s a lifetime of lived experience. Potato/potarto.
  8. Q1) because they didn’t have an excuse to boo the other indigenous players. I think that the people who claim booing Goodes had nothing to do with his being indigenous genuinely believe that. It’s not that they’re lying about their motives. Everyone consciencely knows being racist is bad, but the generational bias that populates the subconscience takes years to beat out. My mother is a lot less racist than my grandparents were and I’m a lot less racist than my mother, but it will take more generations of social evolutions before this kind of problem is eradicated. We have to recognise it and rally against it in the meantime. Q2) he contributed to it by being born Aboriginal. This question is victim blaming. Q3) until incidents like this cease happening all together, yep, Australia is a racist country.
  9. I’m completely lost as to the link between this rambling nonsense and my post containing my opinion. I’m not the club. My opinions posted on Demonland bear no correlation to whatever culture the club is trying to build with its employees. My posts aren’t the reason for anything, but I’m glad you think highly enough of me to think I’m at fault for the club’s supposed soft underbelly.
  10. Do you remember when a young first or second yearJesse Hogan had that photo of himself in a Freo scarfe when Freo were in the finals and we were out? I said then that ā€œword in the earā€ would be an appropriate response. My view has been consistent. You and L_36 think he should have been sacked on the spot, I suppose.
  11. Because one bloke with zero influence doesn’t share the view of another bloke with zero influence? Righteo ?
  12. Sacking her would be very rough. A word in the ear would do. Even then, I’m not convinced it’s that big a deal. What if it was the media and marketing person in opposition colours? Or the receptionist? The receptionist probably gets paid more than Lily does. Does being a paid employee of the club automatically entitle the club to prohibit barracking for other teams? She’s not barracking against the team she plays for, she’s barracking for the Geelong men. If she was barracking for the Geelong women while the AFLW season was on, I might be a bit more outraged.
  13. But @Baghdad Bob, abusing players is just an innate function of passionate supporters. That’s how it’s always been. The tough men in the 1970s didn’t seem upset about the unsolicited abuse *they* received around the clock on Twitter.
  14. Final bench for mine would be Hibberd, Weideman, Garlett and Spargo. In: Lever, May, Hore, Salem Out: Kennedy-Harris, O.McDonald, Stretch, J.Wagner Goody may go with Preuss instead of Spargo, but I don’t think so.
  15. Hah. It didn't seem to post right on mine, so I deleted it. This?
  16. Fair dinkum. I'd argue with you, but there's honestly no point. It's obvious you identify whatever position will garner the most reaction and take it.
  17. Because he damaged a nerve in his shoulder? Nerves are big squishy things that need to bend and move around a lot, that’s why the healing process is very slow and requires so much rest. When one gets damaged, the pain is intense and covers a large area. If it’s got a pinch or a tear in it, it would hurt like the blazes, and would be very easy to reinjure if he does too much too early. I would agree that there’s a big chance he’ll never get on the park, but you couldn’t conclude his body wasn’t naturally up to it. Everyone gets injured, he was just very unlucky with which part of his body sustained the injury he has. Anyway it’s great that he’s managed to find something useful to do at the club while he plays the waiting game. It’s always important for players to tend to their post footy futures.
  18. Excited for this now. Second week in a row where the team changes offer obvious, substantial upgrades with players returning. Obviously players like Lever will be a long way off peak, but we’re slowly building a competent looking side again. Decided not to make my annual pilgrimage for this match this year, because we’d been crap and I really wanted some time at home having had an insanely busy year so far, but I’m kicking myself now.
  19. Lever being named on the field suggests they’re expecting him to play. He definitely won’t play in the VFL in any case. Very hard to pick who’s in from the extended bench. I’d say Hibberd and Weideman are locks for in and Wagner is a lock for out (like for like player for Hore, obvious which player is better). After that, plenty of room to justify any of them.
  20. I tend towards agreeing but I could be persuaded that Lever might not be match fit - he had to blow a lot of cobwebs out in game one and got injured in game two. Decided to give the person I was replying to benefit of the doubt there.
  21. Australian Rules Football. Correct anyone who refers to the sport as AFL, and treat them like heathens from then on.
  22. In what way is May underdone? He’s been training since forever and played a full, dominant game in the VFL last week. I don’t think there’s much more prep he could have done to prepare. You just threw his name in there because it suited your whinge. And it’s totally ridiculous to suggest Salem might be unfit after two weeks where he’s been able to train in full.
  23. This thread is a great study in human behaviour. MB made what I thought was a pretty innocuous metaphor, but offended a few who are understandably more sensitive about it due to very real lived experiences. However instead of apologising and backing down, MB gets on the front foot and drives it in as hard as possible, p**ses everyone off and gets his butt kicked by admin. All for what I can see is for no reason other than pure stubbornness and unwillingness to see the world through the eyes of others. Pretty entertaining stuff, but not if you’re coming in looking for a discussion about Bolton.
  24. Best of luck to him. He has had a very decorated and distinguished career. He’s played 47 games for Melbourne - it would be nice if that was nudged up to 50 but I can’t see that happening with where we and he are now.
