  1. These kind of threads always bring out the ignorant.
  2. Thought at the time that Weid would have marked that if heā€™d used his hands, although he might have also worn a head in the midriff instead. Just a small nitpick, though. Was great to see him pluck one at full stretch for his first goal.

This is exactly the same as the Clarry thing a few years ago. You donā€™t know exactly what happened unless you were involved. Itā€™s very possible the fall was unintentional as a result of the impact and shock of being punched in the throat. Iā€™m happy to criticise our players to a point if theyā€™ve clearly done something wrong (the Bugg incident last year for example), but if Iā€™ll always give a Melbourne player benefit of the doubt if thereā€™s room for it, and clearly there is in this case. I reckon starting a thread labelled ā€œthat diveā€ is very poor form and not in the spirit of supporting the club.
  4. Goodwin was asked today if he wished Oliver would kick it more and his answer was he doesnā€™t care so long as he keeps doing what he does on the inside. I agree with you that it would be great to see him use his pace and power through the middle a.bit and deliver some rockets down a forwardā€™s throat, however he also has magical extraction skills, which really is a job for the handball. A higher kick count would require a different role, I expect.

I feel for McCartin. The way the footy public crush these early picks with expectations and them flog them mercilessly with them disgusts me. He needs to be given time and patience, thereā€™s no doubt about it. I donā€™t feel for the Saints fans though. Years of being kicked while down by other supporters has made me bitter and spiteful. I get a bit of a kick at seeing them seethe.

BigFooty Aints supporter comment of the day: Well on todays exhibition the Paddy V Petracca has been settled once and for all - we should have picked Brayshaw! Eat a bag, Aints!
  7. Whoops ?
  8. In that gutting last quarter where the wheels totally fell off, St Kilda kicked 2.3 to our 3.0 to outscore us by a staggering -3 points. Oh, I totally get the angst now! Look Iā€™m probably being flogish with the excessive sarcasm, but I truly think some perspective needs to be kept. In any game there is always two teams on the field and delivering a drubbing relies on the opposition requires the other team raising the white flag to a degree. As Melbourne supporters we should understand that. The opposition will score goals sometimes. They didnā€™t score heaps and they didnā€™t score them easily. It doesnā€™t necessarily mean we are weak or soft or anything like that, it just means things happened that can happen in professional football. To me it barely takes the edge off. It was an excellent win.
  9. Itā€™s not ā€œtemperingā€ it though mate, a wail about not burying them is the only thing many have mentioned. To me it takes it from 100% to 98%. I just canā€™t understand the psychology of someone who comes on here and rages over it.
  10. Yeah Iā€™ll be livid if we roll GC and Carlton by 40 points each to be 7-3. Positively fuming.
  11. Thought I saw a very solid win where the opposition never had so much as a sniff, but Iā€™m glad the collective Demonland mood has reminded me that we lost. If weā€™re not the sookiest supporters in the game Iā€™ll be shocked.

Looks like thereā€™s about 6 people in the stands. Pathetic.

Hope @Joshis okay - not like him not to kick off the match day thread at 5am or some other ungodly hour that normal people are still asleep!
  14. This is just last weekā€™s game against us. Worst first half ever before Hawthorn remember theyā€™re not obliged to play at the Bummers level and power away. My favourite part about Essendon at the moment is theyā€™ve got no excuse at all for being so shit, they just are. Love it.
  15. Body wasnā€™t up to AFL punishment if I remember rightly. Had talent but spent a lot of time injured. Heā€™s also been umpiring for quite some time now (100 odd games), and has proved to be a quality umpire with a good feel for the game, as evidenced by the fact nobody even knew he was there until now. I think he shouldnā€™t just arbitrarily have his professionalism called in to question just because heā€™s umpiring an Aints game this week.
  16. No. Youā€™re confusing a number of things. It wouldnā€™t make sense to be fined for replacing an injured player - thatā€™s the whole point of the emergency system. - The final changes for a Sunday game will always come from the extended bench, and the three not selected will be the emergencies. - if a player is injured and canā€™t play (ie late change), he must be replaced by one of the emergencies - the club is fined if it uses a non-emergency as a replacement.
  17. Summary of the last page of this thread: Oscar is a dud because he couldnā€™t stop a perfectly weighted kick, nor chase down Essendonā€™s fastest player who some other dope in a Melbourne jumper let get 30 metres in space. Sweet.

Donā€™t see much of the Aints, bb? Roberton is an AFL grade defender who has been around a while (128 games).
  19. Yes, that last line was for irony purposes.
  20. It was intelligent play with a dose of luck. Just waited down while his man went second-up on Hogan, and the ball landed in his lap. Was so good - youā€™d be infuriated if it happened against you!
  21. Fun fact: Rob Harding was a passionate Demon supporter and used to be a prominent Demonland poster a long time ago. Good to see him moving up in the footy world - he has worked his way up from being a rank amateur supporter like the rest of us.

Hi all, The site will go down tonight, some time after 8pm for some maintenance that needs to be done sooner rather than later. Hoping it will be less than an hour in duration. I know itā€™s annoying to happen during a Casey match, but itā€™s the only chance Iā€™ll get to do it in the near future so too bad. Cheers
  23. More drastic than I anticipated, but thatā€™s the fun of being a rank amateur. Excited about Spargoā€™s debut and the return of TMac. Curious to see how he affects our movement forward if at all. Looking forward to this now.
  24. TMac did the entire pre-season. Heā€™s essentially only been out for 5 weeks, so he should still be in pretty decent nick. Heā€™s also fundamentally one of the fittest players at the club to begin with. Viney is further away purely because he has no conditioning. Itā€™s clearly being treated on a case by case basis and Iā€™m a long way from being prepared to call ā€œmismanagementā€ until I see how TMac actually goes.
