Why are the Saints so attractive?
They need to get on with the Bruce and Steven deals for starters. Theyāve bitten off far more than they can chew I reckon.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Who was it a couple of years ago that wasted a big chunk of their trade period sitting in arbitration because they couldnāt agree on a deal? From memory it was Essendon and St Kilda over Jake Carlisle. We canāt underestimate the importance of getting your deals sorted early so you can move on to your next item. Mahons must have been stoked when he learned the Frost deal would be done with Hawthorn. Two clubs with a no BS approach to trading; no coincidence it was one of the first trades done. Itās also no coincidence that weāre always one of the most active clubs at trade time. Despite the way 2019 transpired, at this time of year, I always feel like weāre in very good hands.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I look forward to the day when an Essendon player says he wants to go to Fremantle or vice-versa. Actually, maybe not, Bellend and Dododo egos going head to head might cause the universe to collapse.

Gun target - Key Forward recruit?
Thank goodness weāve narrowed that down!

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON
Itās probably hard to compile those highlights to begin with without watching through every single game heās played. Guessing that the goals feature a lot just because theyāre easier to come by.

Josh Mahoney in the Media
I just take the view that the trade period isnāt a competition. You go there with your objectives, find clubs that have the opposite objective, shake hands and get it done. No winning or losing, just those who got it done and those who didnāt. I think if every list manager took the view that his or her job was to squeeze every tiny drop out of value out of each individual trade and be as big a tightarse at possible, there would be a lot more āget stuffed ya bastardsā type rug pulling like we saw with St Kilda and old mate Bellend. Nothing would get done. The whole thing works on mutual goodwill.

Are we done now?
Are we done? Lefty, let me introduce you to my mate Josh. With pick 3, next yearās first, and 26 still live, he laughs at the idea we might be done. Lefty, Josh. Josh, Lefty.

To satisfy the ego at the other side of the trade table.

The probability of the player we like being taken between 22 and 26 and there not being another player of similar ilk that we like being available is a million to one. That part of the trade isnāt even the cream on top, itās the puff of air that comes out of the can after the cream. Itās zero cost.

I wonder how that decision gets made? Do you reckon it means weāre backing ourselves to finish higher than the Hawks, or am I reading too much into it?

Haha, exactly.

Yessssssss. Well done Mahoney and team. Unsure what the point of swapping around 22 and 26 is - that type of trade to me is such a trivial difference that it strikes me as pandering to the petty, but whatever gets it done. Proof of @AshleyH30ās point in the Frost thread - got to look at the complete picture rather than trades in isolation. No doubting weāve improved our list in this period so far.

Hammer Comes Down at the Crows After External Review
Sacked as soon as the board had time to digest the report. He and Burton should be thinking about life after footy now I think, as I doubt theyāre employable in this industry anymore.

Hammer Comes Down at the Crows After External Review
Same here mate, same here. Funny how we all respond differently, I reckon a psych major could write a great thesis on the behaviour of people who invest heavily emotionally in to bitterly disappointing sporting teams.

Good to see youāve returned to your comfy old position of waiting for the sky to fall Clint. I was a bit worried last year that you might have accidentally seen the ray of sunshine peeking out from the clouds. ā¤ļø

Hammer Comes Down at the Crows After External Review
Far out. What a time to be laying off key staff - in the middle of the trade period where thereās a player exodus and while trying to employ a senior coach. Their board probably had no choice though once the report findings were in. Definitely sucks to be them at the moment.

Farewell Sam Frost
With only one buyer and an apparent driver to move him on, I think we were in a position where we had to take what we could get. Probably lucky we had a pragmatic trading partner and not someone like Bellend or Dododo.
-
Farewell Sam Frost
If the future second rounder goes to Freo for Langdon itās impossible to see how this isnāt a great result.
-
Sam Murray
Why not just trade him for pick 100 if thatās the case? It costs nothing, eliminates the very tiny chance he goes elsewhere, and puts some certainty in the situation for all concerned. I think the only way to interpret silence is that it means the deal is not yet done.

Amazing that thereās even any question if pick 22 is āfairā. Established AFL quality in exchange for a lottery ticket. Itās the noest of brainers ever for me. At least weāve learned from the Melksham and Hibberd trades and arenāt screaming āovers!!!ā

Because Elliott is infinity times better than Kent?

Good player. Disappointed. There, I said it.
