Neale Daniher Book - When all is said & done
I got this book for Christmas and knocked it over while camping with family in the last week, and it was an absolutely fantastic read. Itās his life story (obviously) but looking through an analytical lense ā his philosophies in life in leadership and how they were shaped by his personal and professional experiences. You get some insight in to his time in to the MFC - in particular how he transformed himself over time, his relationship with Chris Fagan (his right hand man and underrated influence in the relative success over that period) and how the club never really gelled at any stage he was here (financial issues, revolving door board and CEOs and so forth), particularly in contrast with his stint at West Coast at the end. Personally I got more out of reading about his time at Essendon though as a player and then a coach. It painted Kevin Sheedy in a very different light for me. It even made me want to watch the 1993 grand final - puke! Given that itās heavy on the philosophical side of life, if itās a yarn with all the gory details of the ins and outs of Nealeās time at the MFC (or anywhere else), this isnāt the book, but personally I lapped up every word and it cemented Neale as one of my life heroes and all time favourite footy people.

2019 - THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS by The OracleĀ
As I was reading through that excellent, detailed, insightful post, with no recollection of it, I thought, āthe first reply is going to be a one-liner from a long term member with a very high post count about how all that is just an excuse and other clubs have injuries tooā. I think Iāve been here so long I actually know how threads will play out without even needing to read them.

Aaron Nietschke Injures ACL Again
That just sucks. Life really is a bastard sometimes. Best of luck to him. Love that the club will extend his contract. At least he doesnāt have to go through the mental stress of wondering if heās going to get the chop, on top of a second consecutive year of rehab.

Injury List 2020
What? Jeez, sounded like he was just getting going. Got to feel for the guy.

TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2019
I think it goes without saying that Iād like to be told the truth - if half the side is injured then thatās an issue Iād like to know about. All Iām saying is I donāt need the reports to be ātemperedā.

TRAINING: Wednesday 11th December 2019
Just another voice of thanks for the great training reports. As an interstater I obviously canāt go watch training but even if I did I doubt Iād pick up on the detail you guys do. Awesome stuff. Iāve seen a few calls for balance in the reports - personally at this time Iām looking for all the reasons weāre going to be awesome. Reality may or may not kick in later, and thatās fine, but itās not what Iām interested in in the off season.

3rd Worst Team of the Decade
How have Adelaide and Geelong played one game less than the other teams? Was there an abandoned match in there somewhere? Edit: Googled it, match in 2015 was abandoned following the death of Phil Walsh.

The Co-Captain Model
Goes in the same basket as player salaries for me. Got no idea how you can assess it from the outside and therefore donāt know why anyone cares.

TRAINING: Wednesday 4th December 2019
I think itās just reality - I agree that ideally all players would have their kicking technique down pat by AFL, but in practice plenty of them have ingrained bad habits, and itās not isolated to the MFC. I also doubt theyāre using the ball to teach them how to kick from scratch. They would all know the theory. Itās more that it gives the immediate feedback and it comes cheaply, or possibly for free. A 1%er, if you will. I think in terms of concerns, this ranks a solid 0 out of 10

This time of year
I canāt wait! Iāll definitely notice when Burgoyne retires. Anyway Iām definitely happy to already declare myself an old fogey - knowing the rate of deterioration of the moving parts of my body gives me a serious appreciation for these blokes that kick on in to their mid-late 30s, and mine hasnāt been subject to 20 years of punishment of contact sport at elite level. I donāt reckon the young men and women in their early 20s would truly be able to understand that; I certainly didnāt. The Shaun Burgoynes and Kade Simpsons of this world definitely have a gift.

The Dees/Roos Pick Swap Update Thread
Damn, I missed this thread the first time around. What a stroke of genius to invent a Twitter account dedicated to one single pick swap. ?

This time of year
Yep. Although Iām still young clearly- Iād be the second oldest player in the AFL after Shaun Burgoyne. The prospect of people being able to maintain elite fitness at my ages seems absurd to me, I canāt scrub the toilet without my knees hurting, and I only have to look at a carb to stack on 5kg.

What becomes more evident as you get older is just how young 18 is. It gets harder and harder to reconcile how 18 can count as āadultā. The interview with Jackson was one of a kid in a manās body bouncing off the walls with excitement (which I loved by the way). Unsure at what point I officially became an old fart but it appears to have happened.

Welcome to Demonland: Trent Rivers
Gosh some people are worry warts. Being from WA doesnāt automatically imply theyāll want to go home. There are heaps who havenāt. Iāll stress out about the go home factor when I see evidence of it happening. All Iāve seen in Rivers and Jackson so far is two excited kids, who had long mentally prepared themselves that they might have to move, who canāt wait to pull on the red and blue.

Who would you have taken with pick # 3 - recruiters
Getting a low(ish) score in 6 games out of 24, including return games where we got good scores again the same teams, suggests we scored freely in all games against all opposition. Yes, obviously we scored more heavily against the really poor teams than the good teams, but that is a self-fulfilling prophecy, thatās why theyāre the poor teams. Unless you can show me a case where a team scores freely against good teams and with difficulty against poor ones then the āwe got bigger scores against bad teamsā is irrelevant, thatās just situation normal for any team. I think youāve re-written history a fair bit in your posts and I think the evidence backs me up.

Who would you have taken with pick # 3 - recruiters
We only scored under 80 six times in 2018, and it was against Hawthorn, Richmond, Port Adelaide, Sydney, Geelong (EF) and West Coast (PF). Three good teams (although we were still runaway victors in the EF with a score of 10.15.75, accuracy a big factor in the low score) and three bog averages teams.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - LUKE JACKSON
Supposedly a ruckman, but thatās a whole highlights package of contested marks. Bloody exciting!

Greg Stafford Goalkicking Messiah? - Possibly
Yep, I already said my bit on this in the Members Forum thread in response to a few having a cry over this appointment. I was surprised (not really) at how many jumped immediately to pff, what would a ruckman know about goal kicking? without looking any deeper at all. On paper I can't see how he could be any more credentialed: As a player, had a conversion rate that compares on par with or favorably with the very very best, with a good sample size Is already a coach at the club and has been for a long time, so there will be no surprises at all in terms of coaching capability Messiah is probably a stretch, but it looks a good appointment to me.

MFC Member Forum
On Greg Stafford being the goal kicking coach: As a player, he had a conversion rate in the ballpark of those of Lockett and Lloyd, and a superior conversion rate to Richardson, Dunstall and Franklin. And we're talking about a guy who played 204 AFL games for 141 goals, including 5 hauls of 4 goals (4.1, 4.0, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2) playing as a ruckman - we're not talking about a 5 game wonder. He is a professional coach that has been kicking around for years, who has had Max Gawn under his wing forever. He obviously knows how to coach. If anyone still wants to challenge his credentials as a goal kicking coach, I'm interested to know why.
