  1. I'll be staggered if Mike asks this. I'd be surprised if he even knows it occurred. Todd Viney filling in as chief recruiter for a year is an asterisk at the bottom of a page; nobody but die-hard MFC teeth-gnashers know or care that Viney recruited for us or who he picked or who he didn't pick. There are a lot of interesting aspects to the Viney tale Mike could cover, and this definitely isn't one of them.
  2. It was a serious question - since you're one of those proposing full time umpires, I thought you might be able to explain. I just don't think there is enough to the job to justify paying umpires for 40 hours a week. It would double (or more) the cost of officiating the game for only a minor benefit for mine. And presumably we're only talking field umps. Full time goal umpire would be a good lark!
  3. What would the full time umpires spend their other 30 or so hours a week doing?
  4. 1. Nobody said Tyson was a dud.2. Nobody said Newton was a wrong choice. 3. Nobody said Van Demon was a wrong choice. You do yourself no favours at all by being disingenuous. I get your frustration at wrist slashers; I share it. However those players along with Jones all had poor games, people are allowed to point that out. Your "superstar to dud" comment shows how black and white you see things. Tyson is neither a superstar nor a dud and more to the point, nobody has suggested that he is.
  5. My favourite bit was the part where you said your opinion is invalid unless you've played football.
  6. Hence that guy five posts ago who said he spoke to Viney today and is another week away.
  7. This joke never* gets old. * It's old.
  8. Definitely straight in for Viney. We don't have the luxury of stuffing around with one of our top 10 players at Casey, and he won't have lost that much touch anyway.
  9. I think it was Burgs interviewing Tommy Mc.
  10. Salem injured??
  11. I'm sure this is somehow the fault of McKenzie or Grimes.
  12. Brayshaw beats Fyfe in contest: embarrasses 21 older teammates.
  13. Dismal finish. First three quarters was frustrating, last quarter bitterly disappointing.
  14. Nice to see Garlett taking advantage of his opportunity. Best on for us so far for mine. I just can't bring myself to call him Jeffy though. Tyson, Jones and Cross have all had plenty of it, but the disposal through the middle has really lacked composure. More rushed kicks than we've seen in the dry this year, that is probably a product of the opposition though.
  15. Exactly. It's frustrating; I'm tearing what's left of my hair out and trying not to turn in to ragey football dad. Everyone wants to win, or at least think we could win, but the team can only do their best. I believe they are, they are just being badly outclasses, but still hanging on. I can live with it.
  16. I have not heard one single Collingwood supporter say anything about this in my entire life. The *only* people I've ever heard talk about the 50s or 60s are people on this forum. Maybe I'm just young and belligerent, but I find it embarrassing.
  17. Wow. Sorry, but I reckon there's something a little bit sad about holding a 61 year grudge over a missed premiership, especially during such a successful period. The only team I have enough energy to hate on an ongoing basis is Essendon, and that's only because they keep giving me new reasons to hate them.
  18. Please tell me you aren't talking about 1954.
  19. I'm doing my best to forget it. What it's done to me is make me get sadistic pleasure when other teams suffer.
  20. I read it as a backhander.
  21. Roos' "tagger" this year was Jack Viney, then Bernie Vince - fundamentally aggressive, attacking players. I don't think there's room in this side for a purely defensive midfielder, so I think if McKenzie is in it's as an inside mid, or to play Kent's role as the defensive forward. Pretty hard to say who the second 'in' will be (Grimes as the first is a given IMO). No player sticks out to sustain the hardness in the forward line that Kent offered. He will be missed I think.
  22. Thanks - I obviously hadn't considered this angle.
  23. Seems awfully soon - 7 months after pulling the pin. Sounds to me as if the guy doesn't know what he wants. I can't see him on an AFL list next year, needs a year or two to demonstrate the desire now that he's already thrown it away once I would think.
  24. Jeez that's unfair. You've essentially already blamed him for the loss before he's even been picked. It never ceases to surprise me how much focus people put on the least important members of our side. The performance of the 22nd player in the side is not the going to be the difference between us having a chance or not. If Jordie is picked and plays out of his skin for a career best performance, does that mean we'll win?
