  1. Thanks for that, praha. Particularly liked his comments on giving the players a spray and the last one about not needing to dramatise the fact that players are playing for their careers. These are things that get suggested on here with tedious monotony, maybe a few posters could take these quotes as an opportunity to learn something.
  2. I don't know that he's blaming the past per se. It seems to me that he's just searching for the answer to why this group does such an impressive job of dropping its collective bundle. It's like a switch, we seem to go from good to awful in the blink of an eye. I take Roos' comments about mental scarring to be just speculating about why this happens. I don't think he has the answer. He has another season and a half to figure it out.
  3. I don't think anyone is in the position to say how much he's worth; you can't do that unless you've got other players to compare it to. I really hope he stays, though. Not entirely sure why, but a vote of no confidence from Col would mean a lot more to me than it did from Frawley, Rivers, Moloney and Sylvia. Perhaps it's because it's because of his introverted, thoughtful personality type.
  4. We've been solid against the middling teams and garbage against the good ones. We are a genuine middle of the pack side on evidence this year. I expect our results in the back half to be better than the front half due to the easier draw, with a bitter disappointment or two along the way.
  5. As a once-off lump lump sum, no. As an annual salary over 5 years with other large incomes in the years either side of it, yes.
  6. Pretty sure I saw a tear in Robbo's eye too. I really enjoy Robbo's interview style. It's a good mixture of relaxed banter and asking serious questions. This one was both a trip down memory lane and a capture of the essence of Neale's cause. Great stuff.
  7. No issue with that. The guy's 20 and wants to avoid saying something that may come back to bite him in 10 years time. It's cliche but you just don't know what's going to happen or how you're going to feel about the club, your financial position, or life in general so far in the future.
  8. Sorry, my memory failed me in the one minute between reading the article and posting - he said July for Kent so it's more like 4.
  9. Salem and JKH 2 weeks off according to Misson.Dawes a week off, Tyson to play, Frost and Kent another 4-6. Jamar not mentioned or listed so presumably he will play VFL again. Think that just leaves Trenners and Petracca. Slowly edging back to our best side.
  10. Agreed. 2 goals a game, with said getting the best defender and getting double teamed etc. Also hasn't gone goalless yet. Clearly the most promising young player in the game.
  11. BBO has 12 more posts than Moonshadow (5374 vs 5362). An amazingly small gap considering the large numbers at play. I'm starting to wonder if you're the same nutcase person, just replying to yourself all the time...
  12. To be fair, if Carlton had kept that pick 3, they'd quite probably have drafted Cale Morton with it. They wouldn't have known it at the time, but there's a good chance it would have been worthless to them. West Coast taking Masten was controversial at the time. I don't reckon Kennedy for Judd is that terrible a trade.
  13. Hmm, dunno. It doesn't appear in the usual list of "deleted" topics. There are two lists from which I can resurrect threads, depending on how it was deleted, and it isn't appearing in either.
  14. You can't keep everyone. I think a kid who was speculative in the first place not getting on the park on two years will be told "time". If he shows something in the back half of the year at Casey he may be given more time, but at this point I assume he's gone. You have to show *something* in the time you're at the club if you expect to stay. It's not a criticism of him and it is unfair, but that's how it is. He won't be the first player to be moved on before he's had a real chance to show what he's got, and he won't be the last.
  15. Fair enough. I'll leave my post there as I believe in owning what I've said, but I see your point about generalising in the fashion I did to be hypocritical. I do believe the point of privilege to be entirely relevant though. If you're a white person in Australia, I can't see how you're qualified to compare any situation you've confronted with what those who endure racism on a daily basis do. If you're a man, I can't see how you're qualified to comment on enduring sexism in Australia. That's not generalising, it is just fact. You can't appreciate it unless you've been there. That's why if Adam Goodes says being called a monkey is deeply, deeply offensive, I take his word for it, and make an attempt to understand why. I don't share his offence. I don't really understand it, I haven't experienced it. I haven't experienced anything like it. I experienced arseholes at school who wanted to make my life miserable, like so many others, but that isn't the same. I certainly don't go "pfft, eff you, I'm going to call it to you anyway because I want to" like the poster above who illustrated my point perfectly.
  16. There is so much wrong with this post that I don't have time to cover it all, so I'll just focus on one paragraph. The 13 year old was, at best, culturally insensitive. If we take it as fact that she didn't know what the comment to Goodes, that's a mitigation, albeit a slight one. I don't ignorance is much of an excuse at all. But if you're aware of the decades of hurt that invokes, but still call him that anyway, you deserve to be called a racist. You don't have the excuse of youthful ignorance.
  17. Yes - I find it very hard to criticise picks when the outcome was unforseeable. The Gysberts, Cook, Strauss picks are fair game, but I'll never blame BP for the Trengove pick.
  18. Always may have been the wrong word. Nonetheless my point stands: it's *often* those least likely to be subject to systematic persecution that dictate how others should react to their own systematic persecution. Ethan's comment about being teased for having big ears completely trivialises the effects of racism. It showed a complete lack of understanding - far more ignorant than what I said, or at least I thought so. Of course people of other skin colours and sexual persuasions say stupid stuff too, but surely it's beyond dispute that if you're white, male and heterosexual, your position of privilege means you are least likely to understand the position of the persecuted minority. And yes, I'm a moderator. I have an opinion too. So long as I don't use your opinion against you in an official capacity, I see no harm in expressing it. On the rare occasion that I get in to a blue on here, I ask other moderators to check it over due to the conflict of interest. Yep, I've even had my posts deleted by other mods, though in the 10 years I've moderated this site, it's probably happened twice. The system works pretty well I think.
  19. You are hilarious. You have changed your tune completely.
  20. Scully is a clear AFL player. No doubt not the star we thought or GWS thought, but a player. If the foot finishes Trengove, I'll never put him in the dud category. He doesn't belong there any more than Morabito does.
  21. Like every draft, that draft was a real mixture. The first "star" was taken at pick 14, the next at 20. Additionally, I count 4 players who are perpetually injured (JT, Morabito, Griffiths, Menzel), 1 player on the brink (Moore) and 5 clear duds, who are already gone or near enough to (Butcher, Gysberts, Lucas, Howard and Tapscott). That's 10 players in the top 20 (i.e. half) unlikely to make it to 100 games. I highly doubt Port were expecting to get far more out of Jasper Pittard than John Butcher. Freo would have been wetting themselves at getting Morabito, and considered Fyfe an added bonus. We could just as easily have picked Morabito and Butcher in that draft given the rankings at the time. At least Scully enabled us to end up with Jesse Hogan.
  22. What's the balanced way to deal with racial abuse?
