Roos said this on AFL 360 and I agree - that skills etc will come it's the effort level we want consistant at the moment We need better talent - no doubt. But I also think we need to stop throwing young guys in the deep end sink or swim style (which we've been doing the last few years). I know we don't have many options in that regard as our leaders are few and far between but I don't think it's as simple as just better or more players

Very good post Redleg I can't argue with what you said at all - I guess I will mention that as a club we need to get ourselves organised (which i think Roos will actually do) The next key qeustion is how long does Roos stay and what is the succession plan? And if we do get assistance what sort of assistance is in order? Because f-me god knows we need it
-
Definetly agree with that. I am just thinking out loud - Bomber would be great at the Dees I hope someone at the Club is thiking the same thing Edit - cleary you'd consult with Roos etc to make sure it would work and he'd be keen but we're just spit balling here
-
The real issue is that the MFC have been so poorly managed over multiple seasons - there are no real seior blokes to lead Started when Junior was shown the door - the MFC has gone backwards and now the young blokes are expected to sink or swim without time to develop properly We've been our own worst enemies - clubs like the Hawks top up with experience we keep sacrificing kids and failing
-
I'd strongly consider it - Gun coach and has done what we are tryign to do at the MFC - Cats speak for themselves
-
Kelly look like a gun no doubt But short sighted comments since Salem hasn't played and Tyson looks very handy
-
touche - Ross Lyon and Longmire might have something to say about that. But in all sersiousness it's great TV - watch it if you get the chance. Bomber available in 2015 - should we???? I love the way he's going about Footy if Roos leaves I wouldn't be disappointed with Bomber at all Cleary we'd have to convince him he'd want to do it
-
I'm a bit flat like the players these days - I'm predicting no and now Nat Jones is out for the season
-
Would make my year *** to date
-
Just to add 120 mins of conisent effort - once we get that at every game - skills, tactics and wins will come Dont' reckon we've had it since the Bailey era before it all went wrong - throw in poor decions by the club and welcome to the MFC hole of despair
-
Great 20 mins on TV - how good is Bomber Thompson to listen to? Great TV - a real good insight to whats happening in footy today
-
Yeah I agree wiht that BB I don't see Roos making too many reactive changes for the sake of it.... I just hope he stays long enough to see the job through
-
I hope it's the MFCs main focus - signing up these 2 Otherwise I hope they can find decent replacements. I don't mind Roos moving on - I'd rather him get the job done before he does though - & PJ is irreplaceable IMO

This is a very good discussion and I haven't had time to look in to this properly but I'd like to add my 2 cents. It's easy to get carried away and blame the recruiters etc but I think the MFC has failed the MFC more then any 1 person, and here is why/ The game changed - it's fair to say we've always drafted lighter framed more skilled players (not all but generally) 3 new coaches in 6 years - constant changes in direction of the club of game style and players required Lack of MFC development of players. FA rules have seen a lot more player movement Reliance on drafting over development... There are probably a lot more factors I've missed but my point is the MFC has been it's own worst enemy for such a long time over this period.... Who know how hand players like Beamer, Pettered etc would be now? The MFC need to have a plan and stick to it - That's why I will back Roos to the hilt no matter how poor we go - No more quick fixes & chopping and changing. sorry for hijacking but I don't think it's just a simple as bad recruiting.
-
I agree with that but its not AFL standard to panic and he's possession is poor Hes a smaller version of Frawley - both can't kick or see the play but at least Frawley has more use
-
Not sure if serious U watching the stats or the game? Just another game of where stats are misleading - 44% under intense pressure and rain ain't that bad but who really cares its all about contested possessoins and meters gained
-
Yeh look maybe, fair comment - harsh comment from me i know but there shouldn't be an excuse for putting team mates under more pressure because you can't or wont take contact

Grimes is a cat

I don't care if the they keep making mistakes as long as the keep the workrate up Need a lot more booze for this game - but surely the results will come if they keep up the effort?

DEVIL OF A TIME - Match Preview and Team Selection
Cheap Seats replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
In a strange kind of way I want to see how Roos deals with all this adversity and poor performances.... I want to see some Dees W's but based on what I've seen at the moment I am no expecting much. I just hope we're in the game up to half time these days even against GWS -
I like you're passion and I don't disagree But you're grip on reality I struggle to agree with... Mitch needs to what's best for Mitch which may not be at the Mfc... The club needs to get behind him but move on on field as well
-
i know this isn't a Chip thread but I think it's relavent At no stage do I think Chip or Mitch are not worth keeping I think it's a mentallaty thing at the MFC.... No player is bigger or should be held bigger then the club.. The sooner this club on anf off field works as one unit the better off it will be.... Players come and go and if Mitch needs to get himself right - so be it and I hope the MFC supports him all them way even when he's not a MFC player. Same as Chip if he decides to leave for $$$ and opportunity so be it....... This club needs all players pulling together not 1 or 2. Then when we have that unity and cohesivness I reckon we aim at bringing in stars - no more quick fixes

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

I agree and I know the club has a long way to go - you don't turn around 4 years of pain in a couple of weeks or even months, and i'm not suggesting sackings I''m just saying it's not good enough. I understand it's Roosy job to get them confident and playing as a team but god damn some of these blokes just look pathetic. Some of them look under pressure when there is no pressure around them, and as a whole it's leaving too much work up to too few.. again. The players as a group need to lift, not just one or 2 at a time, refer back to Roos's Season opening speech, it's up to the players and from the 5 games I've seen so far this year the group as a whole has gone nowhere, in fact the performances have gotten worse with every week...
