He must be confused why we bothered to recruit him. We lack quality talls forwards, had injuries, and still didn't play him. He can consider himself unlucky.
  2. He was actually averaging more marks and more contested marks in both 2018 and 2019 than he is this year. In terms of stats, goals is the only thing he's improved on this year. Everything else has gone backwards, though understandable as he's not up around the ball as much playing FF now. Just goes to show he was already capable in years gone by, he just wasn't given a consistent role up forward to play to his strengths and the teams strengths. He was clunking more marks the past two years. We stuffed up his development, but thankfully have corrected the trajectory now.
  3. The mistake wasn't dropping him when he didn't perform, the mistake was not giving him a set role up forward to grow into. We swung him round in the ruck where he played all over the ground and could never settle. Young players need consistency in what they're being asked to do, or they'll never develop properly. Now that he's being played at FF exclusively we are seeing immediate results. Yet another player whose development we got wrong, but he's not lost like others thankfully. Play him at FF in future and we get 40-60 goals out of him. Done.
  4. Langdon has been vastly superior to Hill this year. And he cost us much less! Stats https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=16&playerStatus2=A&tid2=12&type=A&pid1=3671&pid2=4080&fid1=S&fid2=S Even at Freo, they were statistically identical. Langdon just didn't have a premiership and profile like Hill. He's every bit as effective though. Great get by the recruiting department.
  5. Langdon has had a few quieter weeks recently, but he's giving us exactly what we needed - a hard two-way running wingman. He's getting into, and creating, space for us offensively. Defensively he's working back hard and helping to block space. He won't get a stat or recognition for it, but last night he allowed Lever to leave his man and intercept because he worked back so hard to block space. It was brilliant defensive running, and something the rest of our midfield need to get better at. His disposal isn't the best, but he often links up with Salem and other to make sure we have the right kicker going inside 50. Tipping a top 5 BnF finish for him. Definitely a great recruit for us and still only young with more improvement to come!
  6. I've been a vocal supporter of his on here over the years. I really like the way he attacks the ball in the air and I think he straightens us up structurally. The coaching staff made a mistake not playing him earlier this year/periods of last year when uninjured. He's a 40-60 goal a year forward in his current FF position and state of development at less than 40 games. Even if he doesn't improve from here, he'll be top 10 in the Coleman every year until he retires. I was big on playing him at FF and having TMac as a lead up CHF. No more throwing him all over the ground and stuffing up his development, just leave him up forward to do what he does best at FF. I think this has been proven as the right positional setup now, though not sure TMac will necessarily be the CHF, might be Jackson or someone else. Weid is a bit of a confidence player with his kicking, but his actual kicking action is beautiful, amongst the best at the club. I'm not concerned with him missing a few considering he's still kicking 2-3 goals every match and setting up a few too. I'd love to see him have continuity with his body and just stay at FF now. We lost Hogan, but Weids current goal output replaces him and solves a big problem for us.
  7. 100% agreed. Vanders at his best was a fringe player. His output since returning to the side has been rubbish. He directly costs us goals every week out of stupidity. He barely touches the ball and when he does he couldn't hit the side of a barn. The game has sped up this past few years, but he has gotten slower due to repeated foot injuries. He reads the game poorly and barely gets to lay any of those big bone crunching tackles because he now can't keep up in the first place. There's a lot of love on here for Vanders, but I'd drop him on form. At 28 and slowing up, I'm not sure he has much of a role to play going forward. The 3 year contract was yet another glaring list management mistake. For this match I'd have the following changes; IN: Gawn, Viney, maybe Lockhart OUT: Jones, Vandenburg, ?? Gawn and Viney straight in if fit. Lockhart had the hip issue, but I'd bring him back if fit also. Think Jones and Vandenburg have been poor this year, moreso Vanders. Harmes has had a poor few weeks, but wouldn't drop him.

Basically proven now that Viney and Brayshaw can’t play midfield together. For whatever reason it just doesn’t work. We need to find roles to maximize both and rotate them. When they’re rotated out of the midfield I’d try Viney up forward for pressure and Gus off back flank streaming forward. Viney can help with defensive pressure and hit the scoreboard. Gus had success off half back flank in his first year and look good when he bursts a few sets before delivering inside 50.
  9. Brayshaw on ball. Jackson in the ruck. Let’s do this boys!
  10. He had a serious leg break last year. Back training/playing now but hasn’t been able to build any decent form. May crack some games soon.
  11. Forced changes have made for a much worse team this week. Tipping Kangas in an arm wrestle.
  12. Brilliant first half of footy to watch. Need to see more footy like that!
  13. It’ll be interesting to see our kick outs now with Gawn out. No more bombing to the flank on repeat. Also interesting to see how our backline holds up without Gawn covering for them. Time for the coaches to come up with some new strategies finally!
  14. We’ve had the best injury run of any club in 2020. No excuses.

Can he play inside midfield? If not, Goodwin won’t be keen.
  16. Doubt he’ll get one this week. It was a promising step in his development, but hardly a great game like previous nominations this year.
  17. That's where he played his best footy at GWS too IMO. Looks more comfortable across halfback.
  18. Calls to trade Clarry were ridiculous. He's been a gun inside midfielder from his first game. What some people are frustrated by is the fact he's got the attributes to become more than just an inside mid, and could be a better inside mid. He could become a more rounded midfielder and hit the scoreboard too. Last night showed that. He was driving out of stoppages instead of dinky handballs to shift pressure. He was creating more space for himself and team mates and kicking to advantage more. He got himself more involved inside forward 50 and hit the scoreboard. He could become a superstar like Dangerfield or Martin.

No surprise, with Viney off/playing less midfield minutes, Brayshaw went into the middle for 2nd half and looked very good. He won a decent amount of ball and used it well to set up goals. It's further proof that both Viney and Brayshaw can't play in the same midfield. I personally think we look better with Brayshaw in the middle rather than Viney. We seem to spread and use the ball better with him there, as opposed to just crashing it forward with Viney. The midfield conundrum continues!
  20. Clarry is back. Huge game tonight. Good to see less of the dinky handballs and more drive out of stoppages again.
  21. Jeez Vandenburg is a [censored] footballer. He’s basically selected to try and hurt blokes. Can’t find the ball and can’t hit a target on the rare occasion he does. Been a waste of a list spot for years. 3 year contract hahaha Bennell is cooked. Great story he got back playing, but my grandmother moves with more urgency...and she’s dead! He’s shot. Can’t run even if he wanted to. Sad to see.
  22. Sounds about right. From memory we lost a few after that and struggled to recover form. Bloody embarrassing to lose to the bottom placed team twice in one year, and that's back when we were a good team! We should win by 30+ tonight. Heaven help my voicebox if we lose.
  23. We traded away our first pick ? . Factoring in all the academy and compromised picked, our first pick is likely to come in the late 20s-early 30s. This draft supposedly has good amount of talls. Will we be able to land a tall forward with our first pick in 20s-30s?
  24. Jordon was drafted as a half back flanker, but has since been turned into an inside mid in VFL. Another tick for Goodwins masterplan to have an entire team made up of 22 inside mids!
  25. If we lose tonight, then it's basically confirmed that Goodwin has lost the players and he's on the way out the door. Let's see where this playing groups collective mindset is at.
