Tom Boyd retires
Well now there’s a quick easy answer to the question ‘Who’s the biggest wasted talent?’ when it repeatedly gets asked on footy forums! He won a flag and made a bit of money. Good on him and best of luck to him.

Worst Kicks Inside 50
Olivers kicking is essentially Moloney Mach 2 this year. He just throws it on the boot in hope something happens. While he’s racked up big numbers, his impact on games is definitely down. He used to be an effective kick, but that part of his game is off this year. Hopefully he learns to steady for a second longer to asses his options. As a team in general this year our kicking has been diabolical.

Making the finals
We’re not playing finals this year. Our percentage is so far back that even if we chain some winning streaks together, we won’t make it. Should’ve learnt the lesson around percentage after the way our 2017 season ended missing finals by 0.5%. Instead we rolled over against Geelong and blew our season in round 2. Still hoping for a few good wins this year, but it’s unarguably a wasted year.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Papley would be a great get. Perfect may fits the modern game with his speed and skill level, isn’t afraid of getting hardball or working all the way up the ground either. He’s a tricky one to price in isolation. He’s worth more than a second rounder, but you’d be hard placed giving up a first rounder for him. Maybe it’s second rounder and a player for him, or first rounder for him and something else back. Both him and Langdon suit us positionally and bring speed, which is the biggest weakness of our current list. Either would be a great get!

Jon Patton
I’d consider 112 AFL matches more than a decent run at it. He’s looked decent down back, but rubbish up forward. Combined with injury history and at 26 years of age, I’d pass.

Crowd incident - Hawks Dees
Read my previous post. They showed it on seven news tonight. Interviewed the mentally disabled hawks supporter and others at the incident. The bald demon supporter repeatedly called him a [censored] [censored] and [censored] [censored]. This lead to the mentally retarded hawks supporter knocking the beer out of his hand. Bald bloke then belted and kicked him when down. Absolutely disgraceful. Anyone on here not condemning this behavior or having a go at the mentally handicapped hawks victim needs a ban and to reassess their values.

Crowd incident - Hawks Dees
The Hawks supporter is mentally disabled. Was on the news tonight. Bald bloke called him a [censored] [censored], [censored] [censored] etc in the lead up. No one should be condoning that sort of behavior or victim blaming the mentally disabled hawk supporter who was assaulted. Absolutely gutless from the bald bloke and hope he is dealt with harshly. This sort of thing has become far too common in our society. Lay down the law. Ashamed he’s a demon ?

POSTGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Agreed. Jeffry didn’t have big stats, but he created a load of opportunities and was directly responsible for 4 of our goals from his pressure. People can continue to hate him on, and he’s not perfect (see shot at goal instead of passing to TMac), but he’s comfortably the best small forward on our list and one of the Vestberg in the league when he’s in form. His crumbing and pressure today were exactly what we’ve been missing up forward all year.

Harmes and Salem really stepping it up! Lockhart and Stretch decent as well. Keep fighting boys!

GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Trac’s set shots are laughably bad for an afl footballer. He’s been good otherwise and has an impact whenever he is near the ball. Time to start getting him up into the midfield instead and play to his strength. Our set shots in general have been poor all year. We don’t seem to have anyone who can reliably kick straight. TMac did last year, but he doesn’t touch the ball anymore... Garlett has been dangerous. He’s generated more opportunities today than all our other forwards combined have all season!

TMac is in horrendous form. He needs to be dropped or it reinforces that you can get a game based on your name and not your output.

Fristchs kicking this year is amongst the worst I’ve ever seen. His kicking skills used to be his strength!

Terrible skill level. No leadership. What has happened to Tom McDonald and Fritsch?! Neither are even VFL standard at present. Staggering drop in form.

Petracca training incident
Not sure of the science behind this, but my uneducated opinion is that exercises like this and military style stuff for professional athletes are absolute rubbish.

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
The going price would've been a second rounder two years ago when we last had a crack at him. He'll cost a first rounder now in my opinion. He'd currently be leading Freo's best and fairest and would be All Australian on the season so far. His pace and running power both ways are currently amongst the best in the AFL. His trademark is using his pace to run opponents down from behind. Can't remember the last time a Melbourne player ran that hard defensively for half the field! Ed Langdon 2019 average stats: 28 disposals 4 inside 50s 4 rebound 50s 2 clearances 3 tackles 8 marks 5 score involvements 505 metres gained disposal efficiency of 77% For comparison sake, he's at a similar point in his career to Christian Salem, but was drafted a year later and is performing slightly better. Would you trade Salem for a second rounder? Christian Salem 2019 average stats: 26 disposals 2 inside 50s 6 rebound 50s 1 clearance 3 tackles 4 marks 3 score involvements 464 metres gained disposal efficiency 70%

The 2019 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
AFL rules mean we aren't allowed to trade our first round pick this year. We have to use it at draft. Lucky it'll be a good pick so it's worth taking to draft! I'd love to get Ed Langdon across to provide some running power and speed. He'd be perfect on a wing for us. He's put contract talks on hold until the end of the season, and we've been keen on him for years. I wonder how we'd get him across though, being that we can't trade our first rounder. Freo rightfully wouldn't take anything less, so means we'll have to give up a player or give up something to get a pick we can on-trade.

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Best of luck to Dec. He's more than earned his chance! I thought he looked good in the JLT this year, showed he's got a great leap and can clunk a mark too. Hopefully he can adjust quickly and make the most of his opportunity. We'd all love for him to establish himself and have an impact!

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
There's not much we could have done with the Ins, as we have so many injuries and out of form players that the depth at Casey is currently poor. With the Outs however, the club should be making a statement. We are last on the ladder with Mark Neeld era percentage. We came into the season a top 4 team with premiership aspirations. For the quality of the list and after 5-6 years of rebuild #3 (Roos+Goodwin), it's totally unacceptable. The senior players need to stand up and perform and set some standards to lead the way. At present they're coasting with no repercussions and it's (again) set a standard of mediocrity. It's pathetic that every few years we fall back to the yard stick of being "competitive" and having to "buy in". Players like TMac, Hibberd and Lewis are experienced senior players, supposedly leaders, and on decent pay cheques. Their underperformance is the primary reason the club is currently an abject failure. The selection committee need to drop these sorts of non-performers to make a statement that it's not ok to underperform and lower our standards and expectations, no matter how illustrious their career to date has been. A strong club would drop them. We are a weak club, so we haven't. It's cultural. We have the longest premiership drought in the league and are a the butt of many jokes for a reason, and that is because we do no hold any respect or fear because there's no ruthlessness and drive to succeed. Any supporters blindly supporting the club are feeding into the cycle of mediocrity and failure that's plagued us for over half a century. We cannot accept continuous failure. We need to demand more or nothing will change.

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Fritsch needs to move onto the wing or forward this week and try to have some sort of impact. His form down back has been poor this year and he currently doesn’t warrant a place in our best 22 on output.

PREGAME: Rd 07 vs Hawthorn
Good to see the selection committee have made a statement dropping an underperforming senior player...oh wait they dropped a kid and let senior blokes continue to coast and set the poor standard! This club is weak. Nothing changes.

GAMEDAY: Rd 06 vs Richmond
Top 5 distance covered on the ground are all Richmond players. Youngest 5 players on the ground are all Richmond players. No excuses for us. It’s purely down to effort and work rate. It’s not good enough. Seeing Brayshaw miss a tackle and then just stand there while his opponent waltzes off is damning.
