He’s basically Dylan Shiel with a better kick. I rate him massively and would gladly give up a top 10 pick for him. We should be pushing to get him. Potentially better than any we have bar Oliver IMO

We should push to trade our pick 3 for their pick 6 and Caldwell. If we pulled that off, we’d be trading in a future gun midfielder who can play both inside and outside (plays best outside) and draft another elite talent with pick 6 such as Ash, Flanders, Serong etc. Make it happen Dees!

I agree we should just take it to the draft. However, if there’s some trades requiring first rounders that we haven’t heard about such as Laird or Papley, then splitting it is a necessity. Interesting to see how this plays out!

Either way, it seems they’re splitting with Adelaide and not us, so we’ll have to look elsewhere to split our pick. What other options are there for us? Geelong? Essendon if they trade Daniher?

GWS reportedly deep in talks with Adelaide for pick 4. Likely trade of 14, second round pick and future first for Adelaides pick 4. We'll have to look elsewhere if we want to split pick 3.

Believe GWS would let him go for a pick around 30, which was repeated on trade radio this afternoon. Obviously not rated too highly if they’re happy to let a 20 year old pick 11 who’s had no real injury problems go for a pick around 30.

And I believe the answer would be that all his fellow first round draftee teammates have higher ceilings and are already performing better. Hateley, Caldwell and Langdon all performed better In the NEAFL despite being younger and far less developed physically, and they all played AFL this year. They’ll add Green as another first round midfielder this draft. That puts him at least 5th down the midfield depth pecking order, and that’s just first round mids in the past two drafts. He’s a ways off. I’d be disappointed if we chased him hard or gave up much for him. Looks a bust at this stage.

Based on his 6 AFL games and his NEAFL reports and stats. He’s averaging 19 disposals and 0.6 goals in NEAFL playing midfield and half forward. He’s rarely in the best either at NEAFL level. He handballs more than he kicks, and from watching him it’s because he’s not able to make space and just transfers the pressure to his teammates. At underage level his size meant he could push off opponents and run off stoppages. At NEAFL and AFL level his size isn’t a weapon and he’s got no other tricks. His other first round team mates such as Hately, Langdon and Caldwell are all performing much better at both NEAFL level and AFL level when playing. He’s a whipping boy on GWS forums. He’s basically the worst of their midfield depth and the worst of their first rounders. Both the eye test and numbers verify this.

Been discussed a few times in pick split thread and a few other threads the past month or so. My opinion was I wouldn’t bother. He doesn’t fill any needs for us and hasn’t been able to establish himself in any position. His best work is as an inside midfielder or a marking half forward. Doesn’t have great pace. Doesn’t have great skills. Not great offensively. Not great defensively. Statistically is ranked poor by AFL statistical averages. Can’t nail down a position yet. His best attribute is he’s larger than average for an onballer, but if you’re no good then that doesn’t matter. On what we’ve seen from him the last few years, he looks like a bust for a first round draftee. I wouldn’t trade anything more than aN early third rounder for him. Definitely wouldn’t include him in a pick split. He’ll have a career similar to Ellis-Yolmen IMO. Very similar player, but not as many issues with injury. Avoid unless cheap.

We’ve shown we’re happy to bid on academy players if they’re talented enough. We bid on both Heeney and Mills. Hopefully the threat of that is a push for GWS to trade up and split our pick.

Wouldn’t bother with Bonar. He’s looking like an average player who shows flashes without finding a position or consistency at AFL level. Taranto is a pipe dream. He was a pick 2-3 and has more than proved himself after only two years. He’d be worth two first rounders now, or pick 3 if he was under contract and desperately wanting out. Caldwell is the one I’d hope we can pry from then. Pick 11 from last year and looks a future gun IMO but is down the pecking order still.

Get him. Late pick. At worst he’s upgraded depth. Good penetrating kick off half back to replace Hibberd in the near future.

Because we courted him all year, but they just jumped in at the last minute. We also offered more than them, so it’s a direct slap in the face. Once again we miss out on the talent and have to settle for discards and NQRs. Nothing changes with this club

2nd round pick is fair. Just get it done quickly for that and move on to other less certain movements. Langdon will be the most important pick up of our offseason. Running power, pace, finds the ball, puts in defensively, perfect fit for us.

He’s the right age, but is there much potential improvement in him? Stats-wise, he seems a worse version of Neal-Bullen and hardly worth targeting. Tigers are happy to let him go. He’s the JKH of their list!

His numbers are pretty average. There arent many decent Goal scoring options available outside of Elliott and Daniher. We should’ve just kept Garlett.

Saints don’t have enough picks to land all these players that have nominated them!

Prefer to keep him but not the end of the world he’s leaving. We need to be firm and get a second round pick in return for him though. All talk in media has us getting a third round pick in return, which will be in the 50s. A pick in the 50s for a proven durable AFL level player with 4-5 more years in him is a big loss IMO.

Exactly. They’re in for a world of pain with the huge contracts coming up next year. They need to clear room or lose a top 5 player essentially. Grundy, DeGoey, Moore. Clear others out now or you lose them next year. And as I said earlier, they’ve got an abundance of medium and small forwards, so Elliott is the perfect one to let go to free up coin without being impacted too heavily.

Pick 3 overs for Papley. If we split the pick, then on-trading one of those picks in the teens for him would be a good get. Would prefer to keep pick 3 though!

I'm surprised there's not more chatter about him as a free agent option. He'd be upgraded depth at worst, or an upgraded wing/half back at best. Definitely worth pursuing as a free agent as long as his wage demands weren't high.

It is a guess. If Ellis is going to GC at 600k and Tigers get an end of first round pick as comp, I'd imagine Elliott contract is roughly the same as that, and therefore end of first round compo. My thoughts above are based on that assumption, but in reality the AFL just makes up rubbish as it sees fit. Pies will definitely let him go if they get end of first round compo and free up some cap space to retain Grundy, Degoey and Moore (who are all out of contract within 12 months).

Murray has attributes we need, but there's better options out there. Tom Cutler from Brisbane should be one we chase instead.
