  1. GWS winning again makes this option less appealing now. We’d wind up with picks 12 and 16 at this stage. I’d rather just keep pick 2/3 and head to the draft.
  2. All could realistically happen except for the Caldwell part. He was pick 11 a year ago, and wouldn’t be part of any deal unless we added another first rounder. He looks like he could become a gun midfielder and I’d gladly give a first rounder for him if he was up for a move. Someone like Bonar might be a more realistic option to get added to the pick split trade if it happens.
  3. Correct. Next years draft will be the most compromised ever by a fair margin. To clubs without academy options, it’s shaping as one of the worst drafts yet. Need to hit the draft high this year while we have the chance.
  4. Would pretty much make the off season. We need goal scoring power. We need quality smalls. We need marking options. He’s all of the above. We should be loading up ok free agents, as they cost us nothing in terms of draft picks and we’ve traded away all our first rounders for years on end now. To add Elliott and Tomlinson without giving up any picks would be huge for the club. Add in Langdon for a second round pick and that’s a very successful off season to balance out list and add mature talent.
  5. We paid 3 first rounders for Lever and May. In 2019 Frost outperformed both of them. He also got on the park. It’d be a blow to lose him for two key reasons: 1 - He’s currently our best lock down tall. He’s also the only one who can get on the park, so he wins by default 2 - He has pace, which is a key thing we lack He’s by no means a perfect footballer or superstar, but he plays a role and is durable. That’s more than can be said for the majority of our players at this point.
  6. He’s a good small forward, but doubt he’s worth pick 3. Late first round early second round I’d have thought. I know we need small forwards, but you draft on talent not need so early in the draft. If we used pick 2-3 on him, I’d seriously question the recruiting staff.
  7. Bontempelli is a gun. [censored] I hope we get pick 2 and can take Anderson. He’s the closest thing to Bont I’ve seen.
  8. Frawley, Rivers, Sylvia, Moloney. Sure they’re not really superstars, but we haven’t had any superstars for a long time. In that group is an All Australian defender who’s now a premiership player, a BnF winner, a Rising Star and an unfulfilled talent who was a pick 3. We’ve acquired Shannon Byrnes. We definitely need to make more use of free agency. Not saying it was the wrong move, but we gave up pick 6 for May and we could’ve got him trade free as a free agent a year later instead. Our drafting has suffered the past few years and no one (other than Lewis) wants to come our club as we are traditionally weak and Aden now a basket case again. Back to paying overs to lure talent again!
  9. I believe so. We’ve just lost them going the other way. Time we start landing some free agents for no trade cost! Tomlinson will be a good get for us.
  10. Was borderline All Australian a few years ago playing as a tall half back. His main strengths are his endurance, running power, and kicking skills. He’s played the past year or two as a wing working between the arcs and has averaged a touch under 20 disposals in a team that doesn’t use the wings much. His kicking skills going inside 50 will be useful. I think he’d be perfect as the lead up forward for us. Similar to Tom Lynch at Adelaide or Hogan when he played up the ground. He’s a great size, but doesn’t split packs. He’ll run anyone off their feet how Hogan used to, just wont hit the scoreboard as often. Because he’s a free agent and therefore no trade required, I’d hope we go hard at him. He’d definitely be in our 22 for a few years to come.
  11. Hore grew and grew as the year went on. He looks like he could become a decent defender for us long term. Lockhart showed some fight and goal scoring ability. With a preseason he could become dangerous. Jordon started coming good in the VFL late in the year playing as an inside midfielder as opposed to half back flank. The rest of them really didn’t show anything. Hoping Sparrow and Nietschke can get back from their injuries and have good seasons next year. Not much to write home about though. Weak draft by us after giving up high picks again.
  12. Collingwood showing that pace and spread from the contest to dominate uncontested possession is the important thing in the modern game. We need to go hard after Langdon and others with pace and running power.
  13. It was the wrong move to get rid of him after we lost Hogan. He would've been good depth at worst, and likely would've been our best forward this year had we given him another year. Another [censored]-up by the club. Glad to see Pedo doing well and still enjoying his footy. Good bloke who always gave his all for us.
  14. Jack Vineys entitled to go on his honeymoon now our season is over. Wouldn’t have thought the finals series being on should impact. Was a pretty lackluster game last night. Very low intensity for a final. The tackle count was 43-42. That’s extremely low by 2019 standards. Finals series last year the average tackle count was nearly double that. Here’s hoping we get a better game tonight as the quality of matches this year has been the worst in decades.
  15. Scott West and Gawn I’m assuming.
  16. Won’t be watching tonight or likely all finals until the GF. As a neutral, AFL has become a crap spectator sport with the poorly thought out rule changes the past few years. If we don’t make finals next year then I give up on AFL. Unwatchable trash.
  17. Disappointing to lose Rawlings. He was the most experienced and successful out of our assistant coaches this decade. He was also a real strong presence on the training track and drove standards there. He’s a casualty of a pathetic year by the club and will have a successful coaching career elsewhere. 2020 better be a much much better year or we may as well give up.
  18. Will play the roaming tall role ala Hogan/Lynch(Ade). He’s an elite runner, so will be perfect leading up the ground as a linkman. Hoping we get him via free agency.
  19. It’s fairly accurate. Flanders is a bulky half forward type who’s done stints in the midfield this year. His best work is up forward where he uses strength to outmark his opponents. Young is an elite kicking half back with average pace who’s done stints in the midfield too, more inside when in midfield. He’s competent inside, but is better off as a distributor coming out of the backline. Ending the year with pick 2 and winding up with only one of them to show for it would be a disappointment IMO. If that picks is pushed back to pick 3, we’d be better off trading it for Ben King or splitting it and taking advantage of the split picks to secure a Rory Laird type and a youngster.
  20. Rubbish thread. We need KPFs, and he’s the only mature one we’ve got. Had a poor year by his standards, but is probably in a handful of who are off limits.
  21. Would jump at Finlayson. He had a good year, kicked 37 goals from 19 matches. He’d help fill our tall forward list gap nicely. Would LOVE Caldwell, but they won’t let him go. IMO he’ll eventually become a gun mid, Dylan SHiel but a good kick. Has very similar attributes to Shiel, real good burst of pace, good ball winning ability, good running power, but has a much better kick on him. I’d give up a top 10 pick alone for him, let alone take him as steak knives! Hately is ok, but more of a flanker. Bonar is average IMO. Hasn’t come on yet and doesn’t address a direct need for us. Ther others I wouldn’t think suit us.
  22. If we split the top pick, then trading 13 for Laird is not a bad move. All our small defenders are near the end (Jetta, Hibberd) and Laird would fill that hole and provide good dash and kicking from the back half for years to come. Not the most pressing need, but a need none the less.
  23. He’s worth far more to us than we would get for him at the trade table. I agree that he is the least versatile and has the lowest ceiling out of all our core midfielders. Take emotion and family connection out of it, and he’d be my first pick to trade from our inside mids. Not going to happen though.
  24. Doesn’t hit the scoreboard, average skills. He’s coming from a good environment at Richmond, but I wouldn’t give up a pick under 50 for him. He’s depth at best. He’s only a slight upgrade on what we have already and isn’t the answer to our problems.
  25. Big yes from me. We’ve had a crack at him before, so clearly rate him. We never pick up free agents, only lose them. Instead we trade and harm our picks. Time to start loading up on free agents. Tomlinson is durable, has good running power, is tall and versatile. I’d offer him 600k and play him as a lead up tall forward.
