  1. The issue with the royal blue is that it was never our colour. When colour TV came in, it was not all that flash and our dark blue came up as black. A decision was made to go to a lighter colour, hence the royal blue. We had no say in it and never regarded it as our own, not withstanding that Robbie Flower played his whole career in it.
  2. Under that stairs at my place, and I know exactly where, is 'Robbie' the royal blue and red Teddy Bear. He was bought for my son, as he is the eldest, and then passed on to his sister. The poor old guy is bruised and battered having been a much loved constant companion to both kids in their formative years. I have no love for the colour, being a republican is one good reason, watching many, many deplorable teams playing in the colour another, but, I do have some fond memories associated with it.
  3. Totally agree, I was forced to go for white as the least worst alternative. If they come out and say that their members have overwhelmingly voted for a change in the club's alternate strip based on this, they will hear from me.
  4. Rod Grinter David Williams
  5. Fergus Watts, you're kidding, right? The guy has just set a record by being delisted after two clubs wasted first-round picks on him. Where there is smoke, there is fire; stay right away from him.
  6. You can now, apparently, have a rookie for three years.
  7. If they would send me a renewal, they would get my money; same goes for the kids.
  8. With the retirement of Brisbane's Chris Johnson, we can now refer to our Chris Johnson as just that. Who is the other Paul Johnson that requires us to call ours Paul A. Johnson?
  9. At the end of his interview on SEN last evening CAC said that we had nothing more on our plate; if I remember correctly his exact words were 'no more irons in the fire'.
  10. I know that this is the silly season, but ... I was just listening to SEN while I was out walking the dog and heard an interview with CAC, who menttioned that Meesen is 202cm, more magic?
  11. I note that he has magically grown a centimetre and is now 201cm.
  12. I heard a quick interview with Kevin Sheahan on SEN and he mentioned that Morton could have done a fair bit more on the beep test as he basically stopped once he knew he had won it. Is this a good or a bad sign?
  13. Mark Williams is an interesting one. On the one hand it makes good sense to share the development role with the Sandy role as most of the developing players would be playing at Sandy anyway. How much this compromises his role at Melbourne is debateable.
  14. A little red MG with silver spoked wheels and leather trim steering wheel.
  15. Who is Carlton going to give the credit to for Jamar's inside 50 kick? It should have been a goal assist, but, we were playing Carlton.
  16. Warnock is from the Sandy area, as is his brother. This is one of the reasons why some of us think we may be able to prise him away from Fremantle when he is out of contract which is this year, I believe. Our Warnock has been carrying an ankle injury recently and is rumoured to be not 100% fit, so I guess he is going for a free ride as insurance. The naming of Hayes and Weetra in the reserves team leaves only five MFC players in the Sandy team; this has got to be some sort of record.
  17. This appeal may be over very quickly; I really can't see what grounds St Kilda are appealing over. They are complaining that seven weeks is excessive, well he actually got four; the other three were there waiting for him next time he got found guilty of anything, courtesy of another grand Anderson stuff up. This begs the question, is four matches excessive for rough play off the ball? Not really. They are also saying, in effect, that the tribunal just made the wrong decision. The tribunal accepted Baker's evidence and therefore his verion of events; Baker admitted blindside blocking of Farmer off the ball which resulting in somewhat severe damage to Farmer. St kilda's position is that the tribunal simply shouldn't have found him guilty; very dodgy grounds.
  18. I was not going to park at the G on a wet night, getting out of there is bad enough in daylight; we ended up parking at the Arts Centre as both Olympic Park and the Tennis Centre carparks were closed to us.
  19. Just scrap this stupid rolling two year priority pick. If it were not there, we would be talking about the match being the difference between picks 2 and 3 with the extra pick that either of us would get for finishing under 16.5 points coming in at pick 18. With the extra pick coming in at pick 1, there is too much of a perception that Carlton cannot afford to win the match. If Carlton win, they lose pick 1 and swap pick 2 for pick 3, if we win we lose pick 18 and swap pick 2 for pick 3. What we should do is play out the game as per normal, Carlton will hit the front at about the time-on stage of the last quarter and all of their supporters will be very smug knowing that this is when they lay down and play dead; we should then out doggo them and refuse to win.
  20. Very, light hearted, funny interview; I was out walking the dog with my headphones on and passers by must have wondered just what I was giggling at. I particularly liked the bits about Neita and Ox's under-19 days and Neita's old green Kingswood and how he used to do doughnuts in the parkland after training.
  21. Buckley played against Sydney as a late replacement for Frawley.
  22. I would like to see him return next year, but, under very strict conditions. We must be prepared to be tough with him and demand that he does not balloon up again over the off-season and be prepared to submit to regular tests to ensure that this is not happening. We must also be prepared to be ruthless and be prepared to release him for not meeting fitness targets even if this means playing one short. A question, can you promote a rookie to replace a player who has been released after the final lists are announced?
  23. Weetra was a draftee last year; so he has a contract for next year. He was a bottom age speccy that CAC is renowned for, so, expect hime to be around for a couple of more years, at least. Neaves should definitely be perservered with. I believe that rookies can now be on the list for three years rather than two; he may be rookied again. Hayes is a no-brainer - re-rookie. I was not a big wrap for Bode, but, I am glad to be proved wrong. I expect him to play a couple of senior games this year and be promoted onto the list for next year. I don't know much about Neville and have no idea how the club views him; being on the list for two years and still struggling to get out of Sandy's seconds does not auger well. Having said that, it was only last year that Newton was winning the VFL second's goal kicking. Hughes shows glimpses but, he is very inconsistent; I am not sure what the club will do with him.
  24. There are 12 on the extended bench for Sandy. 4 of them will play for Melbourne and 4 for Sandy which leaves the others to play for Sandy seconds. You can tell from the seconds team who is going to miss out on playing for Sandy as they get named in the seconds team. Only Hayes, Neville and Marc Johnston are named for Sandy seconds, leaving one too many on the bench for the seniors. This points to a late withdrawal from Melbourne. Green or Neitz?
