  1. Rodney "Balls" Grinter, I go misty eyed at the memory. Loved the guy.
  2. The hard thing to do here is differentiate between the things that you want to happen and the things that you think will happen. I think that these things will happen Neitz to retire, Holland to retire, White maybe retires. Warnock delisted plus a couple more who are on the last year of their contract. Wonaeamirri elevated, Spencer, Zomer and Valenti retained, leaving two rookie spots, three if Yze ( and White? ) goes. Somebody over 25 with some trade value traded - Green, Bruce, Wheatley ... Draft as many more quality kids as possible.
  3. I was there, enough said. My daughter was busy and my son can't get to Saturday games. We will be four strong next week, me, my daughter, my son and his girlfriend.
  4. The 12/10 rule only applies to non-aligned clubs. When Sandy play aligned clubs, they can play anybody on the Melbourne or Sandy list. Any excess Melbourne plaers play in Sandy seconds. With Geelong and Collingwood the rules are the same; they each have a large group of VFL players that bulk out their firsts and seconds.
  5. With the 12/10 rule and with Meeson and PJ out it would be reasonable to assume that Spencer will play as second ruck to Martin. This will mean that Maric and Weetra will be playing for Sandy's seconds.
  6. Meesaon was injured in the second half of the last Sandy game, and did not return. No metion has been made of any injury, that I have seen.
  7. Holland was injured (Quad?) in Sandy's first match, that was a known.
  8. I heard Stephen Gough on SEN this morning; he said no way would the MCC entertain it. The other thing he said that was interesting - in discussing the training oppourtunities at the G he said that earlier in the season the tenant clubs and Melbourne were allowed to train at the G. It may have just been a Freudian slip.
  9. Bare? Freudian or what?
  10. It's a rolling two years, they will get #1 pick if they get less than 16.5 points.
  11. When you in teaching mode, the scoreboard doesn't matter. I would rather he tell them to attack at all times and take risks than to flood and try to save face.
  12. I will sit back and watch it on TV, with a bottle of red.

    Rumours

People have to start making distictions between players we wanted to keep and players we didn't want to keep when discussing who we have traded. Simmonds requested a trade, Farmer's wife wanted to go home to Perth and he was about to be out of contract. Wilson retired and was talked back into playing by St Kilda; we certainly got the best of him. We traded Spalding because his position was about to be occupied by Schwarta. Armstrong was delisted, a fair enough decision. One that you haven't mentioned and who always seems to crop up is Scott Thompson; Melbourne were desparate to keep him, he was desparate to go back to South Australia and requested a trade to either Adelaide club. As he was about to be out of contract, we did the best we could.

I heard the call; it was from some ignoramus that said we should trade Green and let Sylvia go back home to Adelaide. Sylvia hails from Bendigo.
  15. I must admit that a major downer was seeing Footscray supporters with their 2008 member's scarfs. I have got a pile of them and don't really need any more, but to me the scarf is part of my football experience and I do not appreciate my club from taking it away from me.
  16. Just to add grist to the conspiracy mill; Morton is the only player not to have his height listed in the almanac.
  17. It's a football; kick it; Wattching Morton is one of the few things that please me, at the moment. He is no champion yet, but, he just might be!
  18. We have got to stop all this carry on about trading Scott Thompson. He had a desparate family need to go back to Adelaide and asked for a trade to an Adelaide club. We reluctantlly agreed. There is no way that we initiated the trade. Steven Armstrong was delisted with good reason.
  19. You didn't see last week; this week was much better - go figure!
  20. I suspect that Weetra is aboriginal for sheep dog.
  21. Let's not get too het up about this. The Olympic Park precinct will be our permanent home. Collingwood are negotiating to kick out Athletics Australia, or rather bribe them out. This will get them the oval that they desperately want - Edwin Flack Field. They will immediately rename it Bob Rose Oval; Eddie is still carrying a large grudge. This will leave us Gosch's Paddock which we will have to share with the Storm. Actually there are two ovals there, that shouldn't be a huge issue. Victory play over summer. The Storm and Victory may even get to train in the new stadium, we will have nothing to do with it apart from our digs which will be in its surrounds. This is all very fine apart from a few weeks in January when the tennis is on. To have another, permanentlt available, venie in the biggest growth area in Melbourne is a great move. Richmond have unfettered access to Punt Road Oval, but that hasn't stopped them from securing a summer training facility at Craigeburn.
  22. Schwarta said he was selecting the dogs to win this week whilst adding that his heart was always with Melbourne.
  23. This says it all about Robertson's game. When the whips were cracking, he was lagging behind or on the ground watching his opponent sprint away. When the pressure came off in the last quarter, he was still going at half pace, but his talent allowed him to kick a few goals. It should have been more. He was at least five metres clear and running into an open goal and run down by Murphy as he strolled in to kick an easy goal. He obviously thought that, with the game over, everybody was now going at his pace. His game was very similar to the one that he played against North at Casey. Nothing when it mattered, cheap goals when it was over. We all know that those three goals will save his place in the side, but we all know why they shouldn't.
  24. On a site like this this thread is pointless. Everybody here is doing what they can. I ante up for three memberships and three reserved seats every year and I will again be in the sponsorship group. Many of us will be doing more than that, many less. The point is that we are not the problem.
