Libby Birch - We Love You
I don't know if she was carrying an injury last year but she looked very slow in her last few games fof Melbourne.

Does the club need a full and external review?
...or heaven forbid...the umpires

Christian Petracca
Exactly. The shallow, sensationalist, click bait hungry afl media looks at ladder positions and the 2022 and 2023 losses in finals and declare we are in crisis. Had they decided to take a more positive slant or even look into why we may have lost those finals and missed this year, they may have found quite valid reasons why we missed out ('Club in crisis' headlines get more clicks than 'Club unlucky with injury' headlines I guess). I'm not saying everything is rosy in the Melbourne fc garden, but we were very close to have some finals success last year and finally succumbed to injuries to most of our prime movers this year. The impact of those missing personnel was exacerbated after we had traded out a lot of midfield talent last year, coupled with the loss of Gus. On to Trade week !

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Dogs v hawks will be interesting. Our contested footy strategy was one that was supposed to stand up in finals. It will be interesting to see if the Hawks attack minded game holds up against the dogs.

AFLW GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Geelong
Great effort...gutsy win. Showed great strength of character.

AFLW GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Geelong
Threw the ball to Pierce instead of umpire for a bounce

AFLW GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Geelong
We don't get to play that annoying [censored] music after our goals ?....thankfully...

AFLW GAMEDAY: Rd 01 vs Geelong
Certainly aren't...umpire ran in to bounce as Harris was on the ground tackled around the neck. He had a clear view as the camera was basically over his shoulder.

AFLW: 2024 Fixture
Looking forward to see how we go .....but...does the same person that does the VFL fixtures do the AFLW ? It's a mess. Melbourne play every day except Monday and Tuesday from 11.00 am through to 7:15 pm.

Club in crisis - Media pile on - August 2024
i wonder if it is just me or does every Melbourne story have a negative headline designed to deflate the club ? I realise there have been some issues (apparently) according to the media but as it stands (as far as we know via the club and/or CP) only Nibbler has asked for a trade. We still have a good group of younger players and the older ones now have time to properly recover before another tilt next year. Had we scored another goal in a few select games this year, we would be playing finals, it was that close. I am tired of the media generating it's own garbage headlines. There are so many media people involved in the football industry that its like a pack of rabid dogs fighting over every small morsel of information. I can't believe them anymore, so until something actually happens, rather than unsubstantiated conversations or insider information, I will just wait and see what pans out.

Trade Targets
Parfitt anyone ? CAT TO LEAVE... BUT NEW HOME UNCERTAIN Geelong onballer Brandan Parfitt is expected to leave the Cattery at season’s end, but whether he locates a new home isn’t certain. The 26-year-old has played 130 games since debuting in 2017 and was a part of Geelong’s 2022 premiership after being called up late for an injured Max Holmes, and he is eligible for unrestricted free agency this year. Parfitt has managed just nine senior games in each of the past two seasons and reportedly doesn’t have a contract offer on the table from the Cats. However, while a departure seems imminent, a destination for Parfitt is less clear. “He looked for a new home,” Herald Sun journalist Jon Ralph told Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle on Tuesday night, before reeling off a couple of potential landing spots.

Farewell Alex Neal-Bullen
Sad to see Nibbler go, he copped a bit of flak when he started but worked his backside off to become a respected member of the team. I don't know anything of his situation but I do know that having a new child in the family can affect people in different ways and it seems that that they feel the need for close family support. It can be a tough gig.

Jack Viney Extends Contract Until 2028
Well, you can never be 100% sure I guess, but after Viney looked a Rowe on the weekend and said ' contested footy beast ?..I'll show you what a contested footy beast looks like....' (my words, not his) I suspected he wouldn't do that if he was intending to leave. I'm glad he sticks around.

I can't believe it...
I can't take notice of the AFL related media any more. Most, if not all MFC news I want, I get from either the website or here. There is little real analysis done, they just state the obvious and colour it for the agenda or bias they already have. This week it will be that Sydney can win the flag, after last week being no chance...It all gets so predictable.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
I heard/read the stat that we had more AFL listed players in our Casey team than Footscray which is dissappointing considering how one sided the game looked.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Kentfield is still only 18 and has come over from the west mid season. While he hasnt pulled up any trees here yet, he surely deserves a pre seson etc to see how he goes next year. The delivery has been generally deplorable at Casey this year which hasnt helped. Id like to see how he goes with a pre season under his belt and him growing a bit more into his body.

Rebuild Time WERRIDEE Style
While there are good reasons for your exits, the only issue I see is that it leaves us light on for experience if we start getting injuries. Hore and maybe Melksham to stay for that purpose, otherwise, a good start. The playing style/system needs looking at. The forwards need a system to create space and we need a better method in the centre to take advantage of Max while we can.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
Nice pass from Tomlinson to set up a Footscray goal.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Footscray
damn...I thought it was on Saturday and was looking forward to getting to it. The AFL really dont have a clue how to run the game do they. Why schedule games at a time that drastically reduces attendances ?

David Teague leaves Tigers
We really need to develop some forward movement to advantage, especially when we have the ball around 70 metres out from goal. So many times we have players looking to pass and all they see is a static half forward line standing in the same space that they should be vacating to allow the big boys to lead into. They should be working to create more space and clear a path for the bigger bodies guys to lead into....and then run over any defenders that get in the way. Maybe that's too simplistic but the alternative of just bombing it long to a contest gets a bit predictable.

CASEY: Rd 18 vs UWS Giants
Sparrow showing the desire to get back into the senior side. Something id like to see more of, from other mfc listed players.
- GAMEDAY: Rd 19 vs Fremantle

CASEY: Rd 15 vs Brisbane Lions
After quarter time, this game was generally a disappointment, mainly from our defensive unit. Ive seen Hore play really good games at VFL level but today wasnt one of them. He was outmarked and outpositioned numerous times, although he was also often without support. Howes also made poor decisions, one being when he kicked the ball over his head straight out of bounds on the full. I would expect players trying to get into the first team to show a lot more. While Brisbane are having a good year in the VFL , i would expect our players to at least be able to pass the ball 20 - 25 metres to a team mate, not the opposition. As for Hunter, what is the point of slowing play down and burning leads from players that are in the clear...to then kick it long to a pocket where the forward was outnumbered in a contest. Just dumb. We were missing quite a few players, I get that, but most of the MFC listed players did not show the skills, smarts or effort required in my opinion.

CASEY: Rd 15 vs Brisbane Lions
Embarrassing effort from most mfc listed players. It's a game of opinions I guess but McAdam is about the only player with his hand half up for inclusion in the seniors.
-
CASEY: Rd 14 vs Northern Bullants
I went to the game with my main interest being in the forwards, to see if any were putting their hand up for inclusion in the ones. The three main players in my opinion were Fullarton, Jefferson and Kentfield. We kind of know what to expect from the smaller brigade (ie McAdam). It was not a day for Kentfield. The conditions didn't suit him so much and the delivery was a bit average. He did (from memory) hit the top of the goal post with a shot from 50, but also dropped a mark he should have taken after working his way into a good position. He has a big body and tried to use it but at 18 years of age, I think he still has a bit of growing into his body to do. I would persevere with him and see how he goes with a full pre season. He tried, but couldn't quite get into the game. Jefferson is improving and he seems to be starting to believe he belongs, certainly at this level. He moved around a lot and contested marks, clunking a few and is now starting to show some presence. He has good speed, seems accurate enough when shooting for goal and is starting to really become a target. Fullarton rucked most of the day and I thought played really well. He lost a little ground in physical battles as he had an opponent who was a very solid but did well in the sloppy conditions stamina wise. It would be interesting to see him play if Petty is injured. He seems to only candidate to replace him if Petty doesn't come up. The down side is that the Northern Bullants have only won 2 games this year, so it would have been better to see them against a higher placed side. Anyway, just my opinion
