PM24.. I make no such suggestion that there is no partnership of sorts about all this. What I do assert is the element with the greatest influence and overall effect is what comes from the player himself. if he has no real will to aspire, to grow, develop , "insert word/cliche of choice " then nothing the club does good , or bad, will have much impact. I seriously wonder at times whether he ( JW) really wants to be out there. That it to say , indeed question , his voracity for the contest. I hope he finds it.

I wasn't sure where to broach this so figured here might do. We at the curtain raising of the silly season aka EOS circus. Always starts earlier for us than many as we are but spectators to the big end of the season. Out FD dept scouting and recruiting will have been working and burning the midnight oil again I'm sure collating info on where we are and who's out there as potential new players for the grand ol' flag. Now we have Mr Roos on board all efforts no doubt will swing behind attaining players of the ilk that suits the direction Roos wishes to take us. There are readers out there with far better memories and indeed knowledge of what transpired at Sydney during their Roos era and I was hoping some learned sorts might enlighten the rest of us as to , almost not so much the who of their drafts/trades etc , but the how. By this I mean how is it likely the P man will go about getting his new charges. I sense Roos is a master of smoke and mirrors. . Just look at the process whereby he came to us; all classic look here- I'm over there etc Sydney did gain a rep, a good one at that , of masterfully selecting underutilised or overlooked players and bringing them into their fold. Do we take any murmurings of Roos meeting with Martin etc ( true or otherwise ) as indication of intent or more the craft of the masterful magician ? Who is Roos likely to seek out nd how does he get his man ? cheers

sorry PM24...whos being paid here....to play ?? Players are paid on probably nothing more than the expectation of delivering to their ability. Last time I looked we didnt pay the students. In reality the one person that Jack istruly letting down...is Jack. interesting observation none the less there ....Shirks less !!! my .... praise indeed

Its a bit like defining a Black Hole I reckon. it where there is an absence of much of everything else that as those things are deservedly in other threads. we know this thread exists because it not what the others are.

We certainly shouldnt be mething around with any ideas of getting this guy.

Im sorry HH . I totally refute the basis of this post. There is no rule that says in order to be a Demon you must abandon all rights to debate, to query, to judgement etc whether that be of a player or club-worker ( no matter what position ) Many here see players put through the gist mill and thats apparently "hate" Its nothing of the sort for most its calling some to task for what often amounts to unsatisfactory performances. They are being held accountable for their efforts in light of the fact that they are paid to do better. When some see behaviour that seems at a discord with what ought to be transpiring and denounce it, thats not hate, thats annoyance. I think Jack Watts is a prodigious talent in waiting but thats all we seem to do , is wait. % years is a long long time. Many others come on a lots quicker. Even taking the Wines/Toumpas discussion as a mirror where one has hit the ground running ( and running hard ) whilst the other is presumed to be the type to take a few more years I would think even they would be dismayed if Dimitri was putting in as many lacklustre games as JW is after 5 years at the club. How jolly bloody nice of the lad to deign to consider continuing on with us. Currently I should think he owes us a massive refund. His stance, attitude towards his position is cheeky if not petulant. HH we PAY for the privilege of being a MFC member.. That same club PAYS him for the privilege of a job at the highest level of his craft. There is no supposedness about being a Melbourne supporter simply for want of adjudging players as pass/fail good/bad etc Quite frankly only an idiot takes everything dished up as Ok without recourse to explanation. Jack Watts needs to pull his finger out big time before many here will afford him the plaudits others seem to give rather generously.

I was just looking at the Banner above again and noting the characters of those depicted. This is the type of players we aspire to attract and retain, nurture and admire. There is no way in hell Martin would be fit to tie any of their bootlaces. Yes the guy has a bit of talent. Seems compromised , and unable to string 4 qtrs together often , if at all. There is mongrel and there is loose-cannon. Am all for the former and dead against the latter. As I previously suggested , Martin moving from Richmond will have a ripple effect. Id rather look at others possibly dislodged form their list because of this than martin himself. His ilk would be a cancer at the club

careful what you wish for

its the only position I think he can realisticaly grow into and its perfectly suited to his abilites...except for the tank...That can be grown. He IS a very good reader of the play.

can I wait til I know whom im picking from ?
-
Not to argue for its own sake but thats akin to saying a yield is not beholden upon the quality of the seed. All else the same..weather etc.. good seed returns more than poor quality or so /so. Arguably theres is some effect of nurturing thereafter but if we assume, and for the most part I cant see why not , that all the players were similarly treated, either with contempt, misunderstanding or other, then it still comes down to the player in the first place. It is an area i think we are taking strides in. Still not there , but vastly improved . Our idea of what is a football player seems to have matured ( still much room for improvement however

you seriously reckon both Strauss and Blease have upheld the value of their picks
-
C and B well we did have a choice with JW didnt we. Yes its that old chestnut. its one I used to ignore but ignore I can no more. One attacks the game with ferocity another wants to hold the hand of the new coach !! You wont get all the selections right, no one does but by god we got a hell of a lot of them wrong.. Or would you say we got them right ??
-
and you dont think this has ANYTHING to do with picking the WRONG BLOODY players ?? Theres a chance that a couple in recent draftings might go the distance but look back to the fwits in charge and the sterling job they did. Quite possibly they picked in JW a player who had cruised through footy but had no real appetite for the big game
-
I think I'll see your AA and raise you 2 prems !!
-
yeah lets blame the club for everything...its a buy one get one free, size fits all get out of jail free excuse !! But it's not. There are those that will do their utmost irrespective of the mire they find themselves in and there are those that continually look to the externals as to causativity. Im not even suggesting Jack is but many here are. There is only one person in this whole world responsible for Jack....thats jack. Just like the good ( bad ) ol days at the JO.... weights are just weights, theyre weights. Potential not only has to be developed it has to be exercised. Again only one can do this , the person themselves. Wattever is holding Jack back ...in from within, its not the club.
-
Just my opinion, I think Id rather wait to see what starts falling from trees as a result of him leaving and going somewhere than actually going after him. There will be knock ons and this might prove more fruitful and less destructive to our fledgling rebuild of a culture
-
GNF..I generally respect your views and comments but have a good think about this aspect.. A very great part of where we got ourselves is due to this . Players not playing to potential. I dont give a fig about 'excuses" as to why. Once yourre out there wearing that jumper ffs play to it. Jack ahasnt. Hes been somewhat of a very disappointing failure in this regard. But you want me to consider we're lucky to have retained him ? I dont decry him staying but please cut out this abysmal fawning. He has a lot to prove. He may well do that and indeed I hope he does. But his carrying on like some sort of footy diva is quite honestly appalling. Hes not that good ( to date ), he could be, he might be but so far he hasnt been and certainly doesnt deserved to be kowtowed to.

You could take Jolly.. Keep jamar..trade not much and he can fill in. Keep Gawn as the up comer. Get Jolly to teach Gawn give Pencil the flick as he MIGHT have some trade. Despite Pantaloons legitimate assertion that we need to be mindful of finals it might be worth being cavalier and rolling the dice I think Red is right though.. get another young piece of tall timber. So: Jolly, Gawn, Jamar and new kid
