Winning is only one aspect to garnering membership, granted it certaintly doesnt hurt. I would suggest tangibility and relevance are far greater factors in a kid following a team. if kids can come into the ahllowed aura of a footballer(s) then they will asscoaite with them. They are REAL. It's an experience they take away and treasure. The more this happens the more personaly this relationship becomes until the kid is a 'xyz' follower. When I grew up Melb didnt do particularly well and neither did many other teams but they still had relevance in some form to the kids. ( probably relevant that Melb wasnt nearly so spread out..and the G was very easy for kids to go to ALONE ) This is why something like Casey is so very important to our future. Being in the face of a growing generation makes us real, not just some team in the middle of a city they hradly go to. yes its all very simplisitc...very grass-roots etc. But we all know...get the heart of a kid in footy and you have them for life, its just how it is. Now combine a grass-roots effort with an improvement at the Colliseum and we have promise

Yes, trade him now while we can! [ 25 ] [25.77%] No, He's getting there! [ 45 ] [46.39%] Only trade him if were approached. [ 27 ] [27.84%] so atm...we have near 54 % in favour of trading him. I wonder how much of that other 46% would be so stalwart if they were shown a viable trade ?

low junior memberships... move to establish a presence in growth corridor.... Gee.. I wonder !! Much is made ( rightly so) of memberships, but keep in mind they form only part of a greater category called Revenue Streams. Brizzy make more than us with far lower membership. Granted we dont at present have too many other methods than good ol members but it does highlight the need to diversify our abilities.

Bruce named 'Worst on Ground' on Triple M

sauce with that ???? -
So many people are so easily sated. This kid puts in..what.. a hndful of appearancs as a true AFL level player and people fall allover themselves with praise and guffawing. Keep things in perspective. He puts in decent returns on about 5-10 % of his outings.. Hardly anything to get excited about. He is petulant abd thinks( and often plays ) like a spoilt kid. Instead of knuckling down and putting in the extra efforts he gets narky out there.Starts doing silly things. No matter how long you persist ..he'll still always be promising to deliver, showing you glimpses etc.. He CAN lay..but its as if its all too hard. He doesnt havehte right ethic..and personally id rather se whatever coin can be got for him reinvested in another.

Sylvia HAS the skills.. What he doesnt have is the right attitude. This kid's a leopard

Hassle to whom ? and why? I dont quite understand

What does it matter if he's no good with us ?? What are we playing...keepings off ?? Youd think anyone with a brain would be playing the best they can right now..as there are only so many spots for next year with as many kids coming on board as drafting will and trade allow. He ought to be looking over his shoulder Big Time ought Col !!

As much as its like parting with a favourite jumper or such..its simply Matty doesnt reflect the way forward...Nor does Ooze..or Jeff, hell even Junior is on the cusp. What we need to build is a team that can grow and meld into a single unit. A unit that will go from strength to strength for 5-6 years before the next major rejig happens. The timetable just isnt Wheels's destiny...thats life. Its reasonable I believe to assume that whilst others ( younger ) get fitter and stronger..and more skilled.. The only real way is (not) up for Matt. Hard decisions are needed now at Melbourne and he will be one of them

you know...I hadnt looked at it that way...the guys a GEM !! -
I think he's still rather raw. I still have some misgivings with this lad but he seems to me to be coming along in little steps. A few games at senior..a chance to reprise his learnings in the magoos.. another couple of games in the firsts etc. It might be just me but he seems to be getting better. He starting to not only get through on his "little runs" ( and I must confess I love seeing a player take on the lines ) but he's starting to get it to others with ( well at this stage ) at least average quality deliveries ) and thats better than some other players we could mention who ought to be leaps and bounds better Im actually starting to think he may be a player your thoughts ??

With an orchestrated unfair draft to impact for a number of years most clubs are going to be looking a bit more long term and wil be picking accordingly. Places will be valued on lists. There is just no real value in Jeff at another team..and Jeff knows this. Dean will no doubt have a chat to him

Keep in mind Jonesy is carrying a larger than fair expectaion and work load. Hes getting a bit frustrated and at times sloppy ( innacurate..call it what you like ) With more support next year..he'll settle further

Cale Morton - does he have some disease?
beelzebub replied to ucanchoose's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cale should feel a bit more composed and confident with another full preseason under his belt ( as will a numbe rof others ) . Cale's game is a bit 'Max-like" ..i.e missed by that much.! The accuracy will be honed with more games and as his confidence grows. He'll be just fine I think -
Cerebrum !!!

Bruce named 'Worst on Ground' on Triple M
beelzebub replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
Look ..if the guy could hit a target or at least handball with skill. He'd be bloody dangerous !! lol But more often than not he's the best bloke running around for the opposition !! He's costly to us. Its a shame really as he obviously tries hard... -
agree 100%.. So I see no point in throwing good money or match time after bad !! Some people will get all upset and thingy...and continue their head in the sand pose. This is not a good chums collective..its supposed to be a top level professional football club. In the corporate and domestic worlds you can accomodate handicaps and inadequacies. There is unfortunately no room at all to do this in a sporting team attempting to be competitive. Bit like driving with your brakes on otherwise. But hey..lets give Col anothr 2-3 years to offer up rubbish with occasional flashes of competitiveness.

Interesting comments by Dennis the menace on the telly too. He seems to have the Vibe clubs arent exactly lining up for him.. Im not sure that its Naita not being good..as much as it is Rich, Watts and a handful of others are coming on quicker....all things are relative arent they ..
-
Its a fair call there ML. I see teh Pups are saying they under-played yesterday...or some such ort. You can only play the team that faces you on the day. I think much of that stuffing around on their part was a direct result of our offensive pressure. That was encouraging.. That they got away stil by 31 was I feel as much to do with OUR inability to maximise our chances as it was with any real superiority on their part. We dont seem able to put the two sides of a game together quite yet..but its getting better in little steps

I think Valenti is coming on ok. He seems to have that ability to stand up..is a little slippery and when he has the ball you tend to expect he'll do something intelligent with it. He has easily amongst the best vision in the team ( oh that some others could be so infected !! ) . I think he is still coming to terms with the pace of AFL and as a result some of his diposals arent quite there yet. But have you noticed what he is trying to do with them ; often releasing the loose player back into the forward thrust or line up a corridor player. Happy to persist with him for the moment
-
Getting very thin on this .. this bloke or that bloke is obviously not 100% .. so what..they signup.. they cross the line..they take the money..If they are NOT up to it..dont play..If you play youre up for scrutiny. Most of Col problems are nothig about whats between his hips..its whats between his ears !! Get rid of him now while he still has currency !!

The reason West Coast arent winning is They Are Not Kicking It Near Goals

Bruce named 'Worst on Ground' on Triple M
beelzebub replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
WOG is given to the person they feel most underachieves. Bruce a definite candidate here. Dont give me al lthis work-rate guff. He is very ineffectual for it all.. His disposal is more miss than hit. Ask Green how good it is..or what his ( Bruces) vision is like !! Most overated player on our list.
