The flip side to all this is you would probably be taking away time from Spencer. Id rather put more faith and time into his game and grow his skills and confidence. Leave Martin down back to hone his craft
-
This is it isnt it. When you peel away the sentiment and look at it in cold hard reality there isnt a lot of upside going forward for Matt..a sad but real appraisal. The list, and indeed all things MFC must be driven by real outcomes and expectations....about what is progressive and not just marking time. There will be casualties in this, but its about the team not individuals per se.

Its not about school footy..its about school !! The deal was if we took him he would be free to fiinsh his studies properly. What does anyone seriously expect to achive by sending him in underdone
-
Your answer is within your question RP add to this the prioity of his education and you have the reasoning as to why he isnt on the paddock just yet. we..and HE is here for the long term not a quick flash in the pan.

I think many are just missing the point about all this. Its not like we are really in any position to go out and win 12 games.. or 8..even 6.. even if we try our darndest !! we will in all likely hood stumble and stutter for a while until a few kids get a bit more with it and feel at home out there. We will slowly become more competent and pressure the scoreboard..even winning a few games. and that IS with trying !! Its not about throwing games to get a better pick/s,, its about realising we just arent there yet ..and will struggle

exactly...a bitter reality

With all due respect it ought to have been Wheels last season...last year...Im not going to linger too long on the note that some of us here said all this last year...and got shouted down for it. Its not because he isnt a good player ..but is one of those who wil be unavailable far more than he is... its just not good sense to develop a team on this kind of standing. Seriously..someone else ought to be racking up game time and taking his money. Dont like that thinking..tough..lifes like that !!

Context We ( all current participants of the AFL ) are at a juncture somewhat unparalled in its history. Yes the Swannies and other teams some something of a leg up at introduction but nothing compared to the genorosity the AFL is displaying prior to the Goldies taking to the field. A reality is we are building. Another is that we are still filling out our list.. Another is that the GC mob will be "shopping"..possibly unlikely to affect us much, but who knows. What does affect us is that this years draft is the last fair and even-ish for many a whiles. Once the benefits handed to Gold Coast wear off they will implement somethig similar for the next team...just watch !!. So basically if you arent in some sort of shape to tackle the next 10 years with some modicum of depth then you will be struggling. So do folks want to look short term and discuss the merits of blind and abject desire for somewhat lonely and meaningles wins or look to the big picture and feel a little confident that should we happen to pick upa few more decent types this year then we are very well situated to make positve and real growth with a resultant noticable and sustained climb up the ladder with every chance of real success. Its not pleasant to really talk about another year in pain. But there is pain...and there is pain with upside. There is no evading that this year is about getting mileage into young bodies; getting time on the grass is invaluable to the development of the kids. Eventually they will get stronger and better, more confident and at some point gel into a truly effective and self believing outfit. This wont come overnight and it wont come without , yep , you guessed it; more pain. Whilst I would really like us to be ultracompetitive I dont see any real benefit unless you are going to get into the eight as a result.. Yes we are biding our time in a fashion but the prize is worth it. If we play smart this year we will be one of the dominant teams of the next decade and then all this discussion will seem moot !!

Robertson ready for Casey comeback: Bailey

Bit of a shame he isnt cooked enough for this weeks game as Mickey Mouse always has problems keeping Robbo quiet. A bit of zest will be very welcome backto the forward line. Thats on the proviso the "real"Robbo plays and not his lazy cousin !! Those who have watched him over the journey wil know this frsutration -

Robbo ready for Casey comeback heres the link to MFC article -
I reckon this has some merit given we dont have a deep well to draw from. Miller simply doesnt understand how to work the square. Leave him as a hit up forward who can offload. This he CAN do. Maric is a crumber extraodinaire..and Aussie when back adds dimension and zest..and a whole lot of worry for the defending opposition Bate can bomb away from fifty like its a picnic. Dunn woould be an interesting experiment for sure. ..and he actually knows where the goals are. Davey would enjoy the space he requires A worthwhile setup to try

as of today MFC 26492 Dogs 21686 Roos 23577 Saints 26704 Lions 22501 Port 26041 Cats something over 30000 Swawks 46419.....crikey !!!! Swannies ?? Shockers ?? Crows ??? but is always a big number Pies bit over 40000 Bumbers ??? and couldnt even see a button for memberships !! Carltank 36145 Wingless ???? well we aint at the bottm of that ladder

it is ist it would not really have dared to dream we would be this far down the path. We're on the road back people Certainly a continous journey still fraught with potholes etc but you can sense the Red and Blue is becoming a believable entity again. A journey of a thousand miles as they say....... but we are way past the first steps..and were gaining momentum. I have the sneaking suspicion our numbers are more sustainable as well as say compared the Dogs and Roos

Extra $90,000 per game for Dees -AFL says NO
beelzebub replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
This a bit of a swamp come time to rationale as to whats apples and apples. All teams are deserving of better deals. They also ought to be weighted to some degree in terms of marketability etc and taken into context of the overvew as to revenues able to be garnerned by the respective teams on these occasions. By this I suggest that teams playing in prime times etc and able to pull better crownds because of 'time' might not get quite the same compensation as others ( such as it happens..US !! ) who get shoved to the back of the queue and find it harder to muster monies of our own back. If 900k/season is the openig bid then its not too unreasonable to think another 1/2 mill per team per season might end up the deal...or some package similar. To be honest another Mill and a half added to our bottom line isnt going to do us any harm is it !! Certainly relieve a bit of fiscal pressure -
Again..its important to be competitive..but you canstil play good footy without winning th eruck per se..justas long as you make a contest of it and can attack the pill !!..Then hard bodies with agility and speed will wineverytime out of the middle. Thats where we're heading first.. To dominate in teh ruck wil lbe a bonus that might come later

we currently have MORE members than any of StKilda,Dogs, or the Roos who says we have no passion !!! <_<

Extra $90,000 per game for Dees -AFL says NO
beelzebub replied to darkhorse72's topic in Melbourne Demons
Im fairly sure Jimma is astute enough to sit on the outer and say little. Not a lot to gain for us to do so really. More a case of if we say nothing... we can hardly say anything wrong !! lol Hopefully at the fall out we will gain by associations without actually committing to a view;) -
Some nutta got the Jitters over Jetta and Jurrah for sure me thinks.. Jurrah is a good 3-4 games in the magoos first I would suspect..and a couple of really good feeds and some more hours in the gym. Jetta might be the surprise packet as was Aussie last year.

There is muc h said and discussed about rucking. I wonder if it isnt quite as important to the game as it once was. The duel of giants has fast beenreplaced by the "moving" game. It is important to have competition at the rucking but im more intent that we get better faster, more mindful and skilled ball carriers that being outset winners at the tap. Meesen ought to be better then Spencer as an immediate choice but he simply isnt and I cant recall anyone here seeing any hope or reason to suspect he will be. Quite happy for him to surprise us all, just shalnt hold my breath. I think that the combo of Spencer and Johnson will be ok, if not outstandingly brilliant for the foreseeable. You can win games without always winning the ruck, however you never win games without people capable of kicking goals
