Colin Sylvia- Complaints, Congratulations and Comments
beelzebub replied to Don24's topic in Melbourne Demons
Im as loud a frustrated critic of this bloke id suggest as exists on this list but I will say he played some decent footy yesterday and yet his decision making is stil not really crash hot; the game allowed him to get away with a few things. Should he decide to build on yesterday and grow into his abilities then he may possibly silence his critics. If anything he only showed why we DO get so annoyed with him. Perspective ..it was a shell shocked Richmond, lets not get too carried away. If Col is still up there mid year then he will undoubtedly deserve praise. He's cried wolf a bit much for me to get enthused let alone excited...happy to wait and watch -

in light of understanding better your angle..then yes.. it must deal with him in that respect.. the door is a good suggestion.. Colin must decide whther he's a with us...or agin us.. and deliver; and the club must decide whther hes even worth the perserverance. ' been a poor return for mine.. as they say..time to go .................!!! -

with all due respect..how and why ?? Hes a big boy..ought to be ale to tie ownlaces and make his bed etc.. He alone is accountable for his life.. he alone must decide whether he wants IN..or OUT !! The club provides a conduit and opportunity for him to immerse himself in a pastime of his choice. If he doesnt want to..no one can make him. So far the concensus around is thathe just doesnt want to. Hardly the clubs fault.. It cant MAKE him!! -

at the end of the day only YOU are responsible for YOUR actions. All of Col's dillemmas are purely of Cols' making...and any plaudits would also be his...just he has none !! -
you can aim all you like...attaining is a whole different thing !!!

Does "Melbourne" mean the CBD or the whole of Melbourne?

The thing is...the club can now make it BE whatever it desires...more than likley to encompass ALL interpretations , why limit the horizons ; -
Does "Melbourne" mean the CBD or the whole of Melbourne?
beelzebub replied to james1977's topic in Melbourne Demons
Historically "Melbourne" referred to essentially the CBD and environs as that was the purpose I suspect of the MCC in terms of representation. It would I imagine have encompassed the notion of being the premier club of the town. Some might say it has always be seen as the toff's club. As a club (football) emerged out of the MCC is has always had the problem of what it does actually represent in terms of locale/demographic. Still does really. We as a team (club ) are uniquely positioned in terms of branding, locational identifiers etc in that we can be both particular and broad in allignment of a perceived support region. The notion of barracking for the City's team..that is Victoria's premier city's team could certainly be leveraged towards new residents of this fair city ( whereever the suburb be). It is..and always has been a vexed question -
yep...we had a couple..but might need to revisit this in lieu of having much of current players at the elite level. Now that Neeta isnt playing maybe he could be enticed to do similar etc. As you allude doesnt necessarily need to be past Dee players..just the right types from where-ever..even other sports and walks of life. we need successful and dare I say it charasmtic folk to steer the kids into the right frame of mind etc. So much of anything is between the ears !!

It is indeed something of a conundrum. I can only think this is where we endeavour to utilise a past player mentoring type program. Possily x numers of players are assigned to whatever players etc can be garnered in some sort of wingman type effort. In the same way a personal trainer might take of a small group so could the respective mentor. Not a full time gig by any means but a positive influence I would think..just an idea

its not often I will agree word for word...well summised and good identification of the truths in this matter. This is exactly what its about and where we stand in todays state of play.

its hardly a deterrent for us is it ?? lol

I must concur with the view that short term pain is required for longer term gain. The fly in the ointment is that weve had many many years of pain, short or otherwise and many just wont come at any more. A shame..and decidedly unfortunate for those thattake this view as this is exactly what WILL occur this year. Of course we want our boys to be competitve and they will become increasingly so. Many competitve teams dont win week in week out so why should our bunch of learners defy that trend ? Of course they wont. Many seem to confuse the notion of going out to lose, to go through some motions in wait of some halelujah chorus of events to swoop upon us at seasons end morphing us into some super team. That wont happen either. Have we got al the cattle we need to develop ? No, and thats why another visit to the font of talent is necessary at years end to take a last drink before the wells dries up is required. For varying reasons past club football mesiahs have only dabbled at wholesale re-creation of the list. I believe this management team is going about it properly. The results will improve, to the point of satisfying the most disapointed of die-hards ?.. I doubt it. There are always associated risks with any of the draftees. Some will make it, some wont. It seems impossible to forecast which will and wont so its wise to have as good a crop of these available as possible in order to groom a potent outfit going forward. I expect the MFC to do its "list management" well this year this wont sit wel with all..so be it. I want long term success not a hit and miss win/loss future

I saw last year as a bit of a legacy year in that Bailey probably didnt have quite the ammunition of his own making to get off to a "hit the ground running" chance at team rehabilitation. This year is in reality his first without constraints. Slowly the boat turns..lol I dont expect miracles...just some semblance of cohesion and team ability gelling. Next year I do expect some start to the climb back with a much more competitive outfit. Onwards and upwards etc. We're building..what more is there !!

Asuuming we dont win more than 4 games Pick 1 is ours..through Priority..even if we dont spoon it this year. Still, be hard to see how we wouldnt be there anyways..I digress. We need effective midfielders...we need game breakers and we really dont have one. Macca is good..so is Moloney..but neither in the class of a Judd or Cuz in his day..Look where the Weagles got with those two !!! Imagine the Dees with a midfield of that calibre !! with the likes of Jurrah and Watts coming into the side ably flanked by Aussie and Maric...we start to look the goods

Im really more just curious. Was it MFC's idea..were we asked to do it ? just struck me as strange to have worn it..thats all
-
again have no problem with the Demon but feel it ought only be used sparingly and when needed. Our 'real' jumper has a red yoke on dark blue..lets wear it with pride
-
Apologies is raised elsewhere ut I was meaning to ask any who are more informed... why didnt we wear our proper jumper on Sunday ? Surely thats not required as a result of a perceived clash !! Have no problems with a 'Demon" but the trad guernsey is still the best. just curious cheers
-
This is the crux of the matter....someone else could be taking advantage and growing in that game time !!
-
I would say that Colin indeed has the talent...just doesnt have the head ( or heart ) for it. Another team ??...good idea !!
-
Ever heard about dragging a horse to water but not able to make it drink ?? lol
-
OR DELUSION !!
-
you will find no one will disparage a player who applies himself to the fullness of not only his ability but the expectations of his peers, that and respects the honour of wearing the Red and Blue. As Colin does neither..he's fair game for mine
-
Sylvia = Failure...simple as that. People , well some seem to avoid the reality of this..such is life. Time to "Carrol-ise" him !! end of story He's just not worth the effort !!!!
