Is there a ready made Hale type out there..in other comps?
beelzebub replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
oops I used an Icon !! bad bub....bad !! Billy rpfc pretty well summed it. and i proved nothing for you. If you think so...its a perillous argument you profer. The role of a KPF is to be the focus of a forward line. Ideally he takes the #1 defender. He must be able to offer not just a contest but the reasonable expectatoin that on as many occasions as not he can ideed mark it. Think Neitz!!..or for that matter as the topic ..a HAle..or similar. Or...even more appropriately I suppose.. Jamar.. he can, but hes wasted if at FF all day. PJ is big and plays small. Hes quite good in space but a goal square is the antithesis of space. PJ has been trilaed at FF and found particularly wanting. I would offer up as expert witness for this argument the MFC. If it thought of PJ as you do none of us would be here discussing that role or the need to get a Hale type; would we ? -

Billy....PJ cant mark above his head (esp pack marking ) !! kinda a requirement for a forward Id say -
another 2c Jolly is not elite..hes good.. Jamar is ( or might be considered so ) as he got an AA guernsey... That filth bloke didnt lol

Id still go with the ute analogy...but ill define better..were talking very good 4 x 4 with some bells and whistles..able to really do a job well... not your garden vaiety mallo rubbish.( and as a tradies vehicle they are ) so pricing is very similar ( surprsingly) well maybe 5-10 only depending on specs..but I digress. One is very role orientated..the other is a go all over sporty machine..two different beasts... Just as KPF and a Midfielder are. The earlier post alluding to Predergasts qualification ( or the posters take on it ) all but summises my viewpoint...as its more likely than not that at pick 12 there will be many of a similar standard...but differing ilks !! so youd tend to purpose..surely

He may not be average at all.. just obscure..or a late developer having gone under the radar. Not a failure...not simply presented at the higher level yet. -

Let's put Sinclair in the box for now. Any others ? Keep in mind Jurrah came from the other side of the stump (albeitly via the filth) so we can look further afield than the VFL -

Is it possible that we are in a position that more than a few clubs envy, that of having quite some depth/ or probable talent in the midfield that we can possibly afford to home in on a bloke like Sinclair? I.e a little earlier in the drafting circus thanother clubs could afford being that they're after mids mids and more mids! -
Milburn and Wojinski only given extra contracts on Bombers insistence ...then he buggers off and Cats stuck with them lol . Just one CATastrophe after another !!! Lol
-
Memo to all Cats: last man please turn the lights off!!! Further news; Geelongs football dept is surprised that night follows day.. " how longs this been happening?" .. " it's caught us off guard and didn't see this coming"
-
Maybe we can get all of them... All those that got away
-
Best available >>>>> best what ?????? If you're looking for a ute you don't buy a BMW m3 !! It's a great car but not what you NEED ! What we need as a team has been discussed ad nauseum. So by all means can we get the best available ... Big forward !!!

at AFL..he didnt..he played lead up ( mostly..when effective) its all old ground.. but the irony is noted. The club dont share the view..it seems..so we move on. There are going to be some guys out there..and Pods showed us this , that can play..and be an impact, if put into right environment. Pods was/is at the latter part of career but whatIm interested in is possibly a 23-25 yo who blossomed late...too late for most clubs to have taken any notice. We all get caught up with the latest and greatest. Kids are great..but they take quite a time to come on..esp the key position types. Just putting it out there that theres more than one way to do things -
Im not against it all ..go Brad.. go you good lad. Just asking if there was anything coming back our way. is that not a legitimate curiousity ? Old saying....Dont ask...dont get !!

Much was made of, and discussed when the opportunity ( or not ) to gain the services of Hale that what Melbourne so really want/need is a more than useful type, a non-kid, who can make the square his home, provide a reliable target and maybe another aspect to his game. We have some in the warehouse but theyre a way off being useful at present. There are other leagues out there. There are blokes who may not have grabbed enough attention when aged to garner a gig as a draftee and so consolidated themselves with forging a career in their backyards whether that be the WAFL, SANFL, VFL , QLD or where ever. Pods showed that there is talent out there. Talent quite capable of playing at AFL level just not on an AFL list. Im not particularly advocating an older player, but not discounting it either. We need a bloke for 2-3 years to hold down the pointy end til someone comes on. In the words of Floyd... Is there anyone out there ? We all concede/acknowledge that of the KPP talls etc take a few more years to find their feet. Has some kid fallen through the cracks of drrafting , or even getting to camp bit since honed his game to a better than decent standard ? We dont need a gun slinging , take on allcomers game winning FF. We just need a capable one. This provides the structure the FD is seemingly creating whilst also retraining the focus of some defenders away from the likes of Watts and Jurrah. If wondering how this happens ...well think Bail. So anyone know ofr think of an established player...hiding out there ? Any left field (any field ) smokies ??

2010 Player Review - # 33 Austin Wonaeamirri
beelzebub replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
keep fit and injury free Aussie !! Looking forward to some entertaining footy -
I was more suggesting that when hes able to play VFL..that he does so. By all means play amongst his peers etc. But..and this is what might concern me is that his is just that talented that to enable him to grow his game he will need to test it against other suitbale able players. He probably wont get that after a while playing schoolboy and U18. Crikey..look at him...built like two dunnies...one on each arm. Hed eat most of his age-group for breakfast !! Im sure the club and its new development coach ( cough !! ) will astutely guide him through this period.

Actually...why wouldnt you play VFL ?? Its men...not boys.. Its more akin to the next step

Deesforspoon, If I may I realise you come not upon these boards spoiling for a fight. I sense you, like many of us, are very passionate about the game. Youre lucky...you can still play it. Some of us would kill for an opportunity for a "social" game. Alas, time has passed. What you , I feel, need to understand is that amongst the posters here, indeed its owners and admin are some bloody capable folk. It is simply their nature that if asked to do something, they do it well. If going to do something they will do it properly. That is simply how they do it. Its not a matter of attempting to make it a 'professional' outing as opposed to a 'fun' one. It to all is still FUN...just well run. Some people know how to organise things...and do. Others are happy to just participate...and do...others can but kick a footy ....and do. Lucky bastards !!! As many have normal lives and wish to be able to front them come the following Monday Demonland often choose a ground that is accommodating to a fall..i.e..its got grass..and is playable. We like to keep things above board and beyond argument so why not use independent umpires ? Instead of asking us to diminish our ability to do things..why not lift your game and rise to the occasion. Im sure there are those in the Saintly world whod jump at the chance to participate if only fro the sidelines holding a whiteboard etc. We arent exclusive, we're Inclusive...and its still fun. probably more so because we win
-
Bit cheeky of someone to come here..and start TELLING us how things may or may not be run.. I would presume as we are currently the cup holders you might just ask nicely !! esp as your lot have a history of stuffing things up. word of advice.. be civil....be even more humble and may I further suggest simply arrange with our people ( who can btw run things successfuly ) to sort out the details...then this can be advertised. In other words...go do your homework even simpler.. YOU DONT MAKE THE RULES...capisch ??

I had only thought today about the back line position but then thought maybe such things might crop up after Sundays game and the team and party returns. Todays announcement see that things are indeed moving along at Melbourne. I wonder who is phoning whom even as we write ? would think some news soon

Now theres a bloody goody idea We get the Red...Adelaide..the Blues !! its good to be Melbourne !!

thats quite interesting.. I also thought this may prompt a little rejuggling. The old gem of time will tell I suppose applies. williams was/is more than a handy tactician
