Some people mayhave various reasons for watching. Sheer curiosity once he was mentioned . Some are die bards and like being informed ; they might have been local etc Many non-sick reasons It's a forum . It exists so we CAN postulate on what might be. He is by all reports one out of the box and he'll probabl end up a Dee just at a time to slot into a dynamic midfield. For many, myself included that's encouraging if not downright exciting. Has pedigree but even better is/ has all but always played well above his age . Will be playing alongside and against reserves next year .. and he's but 16 . Possible he'll play senior by seasons end. He'll be another elite ready made like Trengove.. maybe better !! That's bloody good news for mine mate

Gee Jacks you're so right ! I mean I have been lazy and not gone overland to watch him Roost away amongst the churches. Was just too distracted by the rest of life to go north for the U16's !! So have no first hand impressions what so ever so please temper any views with that in mind. Some unknown lightweights who have seen him include senior MFC recruiters, senior FD personnel ... Names that probably don't deserve even the minutest of respect!! He's been watched by many sporting scribes invariably of dubious awareness. I do seem to remember that indeed some posters here had chanced a watch . Amazingly and it must be coincidence only , all seem to think this kid can play; go figure. Footy's funny isn't it. Meh

I wonder if he knows he'll have to rename himself Jack and redden his hair; it's just the Melb way
-
Well I had to pick in order to vote .. Chose Grimes but in all reality they will all be guns in own right . What a hardship having to choose from that line up !!!!
-
We will get him the same way carlscum got Buckley , well make the call early and cough up our first round pick come the relevent draft. All any other club can do really is drive up his price. He'd likely go first 5 anyway so well be paying a discount effectively but assured we have him. As to height he'll end up 5'11" - 6' . More I portantly he'll make Arny look like a kid ! Improve ( if poss) his core and he'll be untackleable ( new word ? Lol ) stop all ya worrying and fussing. He'll be a Dee .. And a gun, just like his old man. Can't wait

There is a difference between underperforming and underachieving relevent to expectations. Probably many Cat supporters consider that they underperformed but did they ? I think they performed exactly as they were able . What they did was disappoint those that expected they would achieve more! It's not semantics , there's actually a difference.

It's entirely possible you could grab Sinclair in the draft and West in Psd
-
I suspect Geelong will come right back to the field 7-8 finish. New coach ( eventually) , compromised trade/ drafting as result , Possibly a wonky preseason as all sort themselves out . Cats apparently already ruing retaing Milburn and Wojo . there's still talent and emerging kids but the core structure ain't what it used to be. Rooke going won't make any dif as was already shot. GA and Bomber going along with his assistant ... Big shoes to fill. It's not a happy Cattery anymore and that parochial town is bound to turn the heat up! Geelong the power is gone .. Geelong , a team will replace them. Competitive ? Yes ! A force ? Nupp

Geelong mightn't be able to stop West going , out of contract supposedly
-
Purerly subjective but might West be at least I trigued by the idea of a team climbing and heading head first through it's window as compared a team facing serious reinvention. West and Blake were to meet with their FD regarding their futures at the Cattery. Wonder how that went? There was a view in Geelong that he(W) might explore other options. Seems rather astute of Melb to suss him out (assuming this is all happening) whilst they are in some disarray ! I'll have faith in the FD, they thought Hale worth a look and so it seems did others. They apparently think West worth a look.. Happy enough with that . He isthe type; how good ? nfi

Is there a ready made Hale type out there..in other comps?
beelzebub replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
I take something akin to umbrage at being labeled a hater. I dont HATE PJ at all. I simply dont think hes panning out as wed all like. Now this is a view not shared by some here and so be it. Part of being an effective FF is to draw the best defender. many other teams have already worked out our little gambit knowing PJ is weak ( relatively and especially for that position ) overhead. This being the case we dont get the desired matchups wed like. But many of us are just going to have to disagree and there are still other states beyond Vic and QLd...some play a fair game of footy I hear I think you can stop old55....lol... must be pet food by now !! -

Mate....this is a rather large country....there is more than Victoria !! -
DD its a bit of a catch 22...if he proves any good...he'll make a decent career ( Mk11) at GC...if he doesnt.... then hes of no use to anyone. ITs GC or bust for NA

Thats a very broad brush there Billy. We probably all didnt know of a Jurrah type ....til he surfaced, but he was there. So might a fwd/ruck type....somewhere....hence the original question. There are many eyes on this forum who come from far and afield. -

beelzebub replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
The answer is in the tenet of the opening question. That we dont really have one. hence our looking at Hale...hence our apparent looking at West...and probably half a dozen other likely types we are not up to speed with. The change in rotation rules leaving us with 3 real changes on the bench ( The sub has to be for injury or a more affirmative..off sone your playing crap type scenario). The luxury of a 2nd pure type ruck is gone. The newish monicker "hybrid" is all the go. we all know him as a tall utility type. Theyve been around for ever but now we'll package him up with a new name and 'modernise' his image. As we , like most wont play a 2nd ruck per se..this member of the team must have a more encompassing role. Melb like many clubs will probably go the tried and tested path of where a resting ruck would end up...i.,e the forward line. So in this light were looking at a bloke who can ruck..better than average..but not necessarily best in league. he must be able to do something else. Again..its likely to be a forward role.. All the while we return to the "Hale" mould. So this player must be able to play effectively as a tall forward. Effectively does not necessarily mean he'll be a Coleman winner but none the less he must add to the equation. By his presence the forward line must work and score better than if he werent there. This just does not happen with PJ...nor with Newton. They in effect seem more of a hindrance than a help. The answer to the question..is we need to get him. We dont have a capable hybrid on board at present. -
If he fails up there...why on earth would we want him? makes not a lot of sense. If he cant get up to play with the new dream team alongside his brother then one I think is fair to assume he isnt much chop !! Melbourne could be even luckier any pass over him entirely. Its very much a 'between the ears' thing with Nathan

So..please enlighten me..what exactly havent I deigned to answer ? Do I not know we need more than one ruck ? golly...that would almost be part of the original question here. Some seem to think PJ is the man. Some of us dont. Some of you seem to have missed the entire theme of the thread.. -

shove it.. dont need an icon for that sunny jim The FF can ruck if hes able..but doesnt need to be able to in order to be a FF. Many other teams manage but it will be interesting to see how it all evolves within teh new rotation / subs rulings. It was our perfect fit solution... Rest Jamar up forward.. use FF to relief ruck. That utilises 2 players.. if we augment and introduce shuffling of positions and such we can utilise someone else to relieve Jamar. its not optimum..and thats why we need to keep looking -

Is PJ a great option ..NO is PJ our only option NO Does the nominated FF HAVE to pinch hit the ruck ?? No...be nice.. but not absolute.. Would have happened had HAle been landed. he wasnt we revise options. Careful when you try to make arguments particularly definitive. I see where youre going but disagree with your premises -

If you suggest PJ is our only legitimate option...and in that Im using PJ as the yardstick then youre seriously wrong. Bate is far more effective than PJ...just cant hold any consistency or apply enough defensive pressure. -

Im not au fait with where or when Bailey suggest ed a FF was last resort, am happy to be educated. A FF is not there to work in isolation. His presence augments our structure and defines the roles of oppositions ( defensively ) . without a decent one, one who offers an acknowledged contest you are handing your opposition a huge advantage. Strangely enough the most effective place to kick goals from is within 25 m of the posts within an arc 45 deg either side...Now pop quiz time..who in an AFL side might occupy such a locale ? We dont even know atm if PJ will still be on our list in 5 days time. I am indeed offering up an alternative..actually ..this whole thread is exactly about that.. Its player X ..who or where is he ? Hes distinctly not on our list at present otherwise again..wed already have him allocated there. MFC is looking...im just asking..or offering the idea that he may not be at many people first thoughts regarding exisiting abode. Geelongs answer was right under its nose all but. We may have to look a bit more laterally..we might -
Some just dont get it !!

Ahh but Deez Nuts...what would the Filths goal kicking looked like WITHOUT Cloke being there ? He mightnt have kicked them all but he allowed others into the game in a way the coach directed. We cant do that yet... hence our desire for a biggish solid unit up front forcing the oppositions hand !
