  1. dream free agent acquisition: patrick dangerfield ideal free agency acquisitions: matthew leuenberger scott selwood richard douglas trade our first pick for one of: shiel treloar sloane coniglio josh kelly none of it will happen.
  2. For every one nice kick, his nine other possessions usually are turnovers or to a disadvantageous position. His speed, skills and desire are all not afl standard, and like others i fail to see how they're going to get to the required level with us. He was so highly rated as a junior, and all the commentary at the time is that he'd be able to come in and play afl from the get-go thanks to his grounding in sanfl. He's two and a bit years in and doesn't look like it. However, with Salem's injury I'm hopeful he gets the opportunity to press to be that half-back playmaker. I have serious doubts due to his speed, skill and desire that he'll be capable of playing the role.
  3. Any and all of these would be handy: Adelaide: Richard Douglas (UFA), Patrick Dangerfield (RFA), Rory Sloane, Cameron Ellis-Yolmen, Matthew Wright, Mitchell Grigg, Rory Laird, Sam Kerridge, Matt Crouch, Brodie Martin, Jake Kelly Brisbane: Jed Adcock (UFA), Matthew Leuenberger (RFA), James Aish Carlton: Matthew Kreuzer (RFA), Patrick Cripps, Lachie Henderson, Andrejs Everitt (trigger clause) Collingwood: Jamie Elliott, Tom Langdon, Paul Seedsman, Adam Oxley (Caveat emptor on these ones obviously - Essendon: Brent Stanton (UFA), Jake Carlisle, Will Hams, Elliott Kavanagh, Jake Melksham, Jackson Merrett, Tayte Pears) Fremantle: Jonathon Griffen, Matthew De Boer, Tommy Sheridan, Zac Clarke, Hayden Crozier, Matthew Taberner, Michael Apeness, Alex Pearce Geelong: Steve Johnson (UFA), Matthew Stokes (UFA), Tom Hawkins (RFA), Billie Smedts, Jake Kolodjashnij, Darcy Lang, Dawson Simpson?, Josh Cowan, Jordan Murdoch?, Cameron Guthrie?, Nathan Vardy, Steven Motlop, George Horlin-Smith, Josh Walker?, Jackson Thurlow, Mark Blicavs Gold Coast: Zac Smith, Daniel Gorringe, Rory Thompson, Henry Schade, Charlie Dixon, Michael Rischitelli, Jesse Lonergan, Adam Saad GWS: Stephen Coniglio, Dylan Shiel, Tomas Bugg, Nathan Wilson, Adam Treloar, Will Hoskin-Elliott Hawthorn: Taylor Duryea?, James Sicily, Liam Shiels, Will Langford, Jonathon Simpkin?, Jed Anderson North Melbourne: Sam Wright, Aaron Mullett, Daniel Currie, Luke McDonald Port Adelaide: Kane Mitchell, Matthew Broadbent, John Butcher, Andrew Moore Richmond: Alex Rance (UFA), Ben Lennon Sydney: Lloyd Perris West Coast: Scott Selwood (I thought he was a free agent?), Dominic Sheed Western Bulldogs: Mitch Wallis, Liam Picken
  4. So channel 7 apparently reported tonight that Crowley tested positive to methadone? Wowsers.
  5. It's a myth that nba draftees are all seasoned college professionals. More and more they're kids straight out of high school - LeBron James and Kobe Bryant being the obvious examples over the last twenty years to be superstars from the get go. Of those afl drafts highlighted up to 2009, how many players reached 100,150, 200 games? That's a far more quantifiable measure of success than some random 'I think this player is an A, a B, etc'. Also would be curious to see - what mitigating factors stopped them from doing so, eg serious injury like Morabito - how many were traded by their teams and for what - how many left as free agents It's too early to judge Toumpas (but it's not looking good for him reaching 100 afl games or being a one-club player), but there's no question that Morton's first three years were far more encouraging than his thus far. He needs a stellar rest of 2015 to even come close to where Morton was at the end of his first three years, which just shows how far back he is coming from.
  6. i expect garland to walk as a free agent at the end of the year. i guess we will get a second round compo pick for yet another wantaway defender.
  7. The big footy rumour is that Adelaide are into Jimmy. If we got Lyons for him that'd be more than he's currently worth. That being said, with Salem gone for an extended period he has a real opportunity to be the set up man behind play. My fear is that his timidity, lack of tenacity, and poor skills when under a scintilla of pressure will once again let him down.
  8. salem is a definite out. viney won't be back. frost or kent either. kennedy-harris unlikely, and jetta hopefully - his head knocks are a massive concern. hogan is all but confirmed as an in. as disappointingly slow, timid and tentative as toumpas looks, salem's injury gives him an opportunity to cement a spot on half-back flank. howe and dawes - one has to go. mine is a vote for the latter, unfortunately. howe survives by the skin of his teeth, and gets an opportunity to play forward. ro bail is simply not up to it as an afl-level player. stretch ain't ready for afl-level intensity. watts shouldn't be a one week out / straight back in player. jamar / gawn aren't knocking the door down. the cupboard is bare! i would say bring in neal-bullen but, like stretch, i just refuse to believe he's 'ready' for afl level intensity; it's no surprise that brayshaw and vadenberg are struggling - it's been a tough initiation into afl, just as it is for nearly every new player that we bring in. IN: riley, newton, jetta OUT: salem (inj.), dawes, stretch riley and newton (did the latter even play in the vfl?)...it's deckchairs on the titanic stuff tbh. when mckenzie is one of our consistent vfl-level players we are in big, big trouble. B: Jetta - Dunn - Garland HB: Grimes - T. McDonald - Toumpas C: Lumumba - N. Jones - Vince HF: vandenBerg - Pedersen - Brayshaw F: Howe - Hogan - Garlett Foll: Spencer - Tyson - Cross I/C: Michie - Riley - M. Jones Sub: Newton Emerg: Dawes - Gawn - McKenzie footscray will run us off our legs - they're quick and hard at the ball. we are in big, big trouble up to the bye - footscray, port and collingwood all have superior kids and seniors.
  9. I said last year that Morton had a more impressive first two seasons that Toumpas. Unfortunately it looks like Morton is going to 'win' the third year too. Sadly I don't see Toumpas as anything close to being good enough to be an afl player. Too slow, too timid, too unskilled.
  10. Priority pick certain to be raised again.
  11. We look like we will cop a massive hiding today.
  12. Heard from a usually reliable source that Hannebery has no intention of leaving the Swans.
  13. Darcy Tucker or a swap for a gun for our pick, I would expect. I loved the yarn that Brisbane might be scared off any player managed by Liam Pickering.
  14. In still hopeful he can be like Hodge - a skilful player who primarily plays the distributor role off half-back but is also capable of moving into the midfield and extracting clearances when needs be. Also lots of talk we are still into Lyons from the Crows.
  15. What match were they watching? Howe was forward by early second quarter, and Brayshaw was pretty impressive.
  16. it's moments like these i miss having foxtel.
  17. AFL operate under AGILE principles - do one thing at a time, start and finish it, then move to the next thing. It's a lousy methodology.
  18. unfortunately he's another big bloke who doesn't seem to realise he's a big bloke. goes at every mark one-handed. unfortunately he's not shown enough in five years to suggest he's capable of forging a long afl career.
  19. how can little express 'shock' at the appeal? god they must be naive down there at bomberland.
  20. Jeepers. I know it's only neafl, but still! I would love Kelly. Based upon our current ladder position, I don't even know if pick #4 would get the job done. Kid is a jet. He's not like O'Rourke who couldn't get a game at GWS and is now struggling at Hawks, and went for pick #19.
  21. Blicavs would be great but there's no way Cats will want to lose him.
  22. Trick is not to look for 'targets' so much as it is to examine gaps, and analysis of who has surfeit of players in those roles, and what they would want to improve their list. It's quid pro quo. We need: - running from half back and through midfield - midfielders with ball winning ability and pace - ruck strength - push up forwards who can impact midfield as well - depth - possibly a secondary key forward In short, our list is pretty average. Who would we WANT to be in our side in as little as three years time? Certainties: Hogan N Jones Salem Viney Brayshaw Tyson T McDonald Jetta Expected: Stretch Kent Frost Petracca Garlett ANB vandenBerg Howe Possibly: Watts Toumpas Dawes Gawn Newton JKH O McDonald Retired, delisted etc: Lumumba Trengove Mckenzie Dunn Cross Garland Pedersen Michie Vince Riley Hunt Grimes White Spencer Bail M Jones Terlich King Fitzpatrick In short, there's a helluva lot of gaps to fill going forward.
  23. I said season thus far, settle those petals daisy cutter!
  24. vince will go, i think, based upon the speculation heard thus far. i can't comprehend why watts wasn't given a full game at vfl level, other than that we have no one actual worthwhile swapping him with. spencer, toumpas must be persisted with, and given an opportunity. jkh and newton are borderline. pedersen the same, probably holds his spot to give spencil a chop-out. OUT: vince (suspended), jkh, watts (both omitted) IN: viney, jetta, michie B: Jetta - Dunn - Garland HB: Salem - T. McDonald - Howe C: Lumumba - N. Jones - Viney HF: vandenBerg - Dawes - Brayshaw F: Pedersen - Hogan - Garlett Foll: Spencer - Tyson - Cross I/C: Toumpas - Newton - Michie Sub: Stretch Emerg: Neal-Bullen - Gawn - Grimes we are so, so slow and stodgy and lacking in gneuine rotations through the midfield. even if anb gets a go, unfortunately he's not quick either. i'm hoping petracca, if he comes back next year to full capacity (unlikely, generally takes 18-24 months to recover from a knee reco), does not move at glacial pace; we desperately need some leg speed.
