TRAINING: Monday 18th January 2021
biggest thing that pleases me from report is the amount of players in full training i find it interesting that melksham is training with the mids as i don't particularly find him valuable either inside or outside it concerns me a bit that hunt is training with the backs as his disposal is simply not nearly good enough based upon previous seasons to be running off the back flank but we shall see

Fantasy Points tell a story
means nothing; afl fantasy points is all about accumulation of stats through possessions; supercoach measures effectiveness of usage at least, as it uses champion data ranking points gawn is the #1 average scoring player in both games from memory, oliver and trac are right up there in top 10 but again it means little - richmond for instance has barely any player who averages 100+ points (neck tatts) and only another three who average 90+ ppg, whereas we have the top 3 who average 117+ ppg each, then viney, may, langdon also at 90+ it's not how how possessions you get but how you make em count

Best 22? / Next 22??
i don't get the love for hore... hopefully i'll be proved wrong but he was dropped multiple times as a senior recruit in his first year, finished the season in the vfl, and then was crocked the entirety of 2020 smith is ahead of him for mine by dint of being regularly IN the side last year seniors B: Smith - May - Lever HB: Rivers - Tomlinson - Hibberd C : Langdon - Petracca - Salem HF: Melksham - Weideman - Harmes F: Fritsch - B Brown - Pickett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Jackson - Brayshaw - Hunt - Baker Emerg: Jones - Spargo - McDonald - Sparrow magoos B: Jetta - Petty - Lockhart HB: Bowey - Hore - Chandler C : Nietschke - Jones - vandenBerg HF: Neal-Bullen - McDonald - Spargo F: Laurie - M Brown - Bedford Foll: Bradtke - Sparrow - Jordon I/c: Rosman

Our game plan
perhaps that was the point...

Our game plan
i would have thought our gameplan was fairly self-evident in the way we have played for several years win stoppages and clearances is the #1 mandate move the ball via overlap run fan wide on the rebound / entering 50 clear out / block central corridor and force teams to use the boundary thus theoretically maximising repeat stoppages and limiting oppo run (doesn't work if we don't defend exits effectively) defend maniacally limit turnovers (which can mean we sometimes look overly cautious when in possession) what i like is that it's not overly complicated, which is genuinely a good guide to the kiss principle; tiggas' game plan to me essentially appears to be defend maniacally, force turnover, run in waves on the rebound

Our Clubs Best Midfielder of the 21st Century
burgoyne, burgoyne, francou, kornes with primus in the ruck was a fearsome combo during their golden period at the start of the 00s add in nick stephens until 04, plus josh carr, adam kingsley, wanganeen, and pickett, and they were the quintessential 'almost' team until the breakthrough in 04 those clashes between the bears and the pear in that era were epic

2020 Financials: Reduced Debt Despite Loss
as, theoretically, the afl and subsidiaries (i.e. clubs) are not for profit, any money we would have to pay back as part of a loan to clear debt etc. would be money that we could have otherwise spent, yes? we can carry the debt without a care in the world (theoretically) because of the afl being able to guarantee us

Pecking order and planning for future tall and small defender.
i'm not nearly as high on hore as others - dropped multiple times in 2019 and injured the entirety, more or less, of 2020 same goes for lockhart; even at the end of 2020 it was jetta that was brought in when hibberd was injured, not lockhart

Projected Best 22's 2021
yeah, i dunno about that on a scale or ordinary to average, i guess so but...ideally neither would be best 22 in a good side

Projected Best 22's 2021
i'm going off the assumption that the central back 7 of rd 18, 2020, will be the core around which we build - i personally am not a huge fan of smith, hibberd, and tomlinson in the same line-up, but it would seem that the footy dept. like it and it holds to my theory that we're more trying to emulate geelong's back 7 approach it looks like a middle-tier side to me, right where we were in 2018 and 2020 - somewhere between 5th and 11th, before finals seniors B: Smith - May - Lever HB: Hibberd - Tomlinson - Rivers C : Langdon - Petracca - Salem HF: Melksham - Weideman - Hunt F: Fritsch - B Brown - Pickett Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Harmes - Jackson - Brayshaw - Baker Emerg: Jones - vandenBerg - McDonald - Sparrow reserves B: Jetta - Hore - Lockhart HB: Bowey - Petty - Chandler C : Jordon - Jones - Rosman HF: Neal-Bullen - McDonald - Spargo F: Laurie - M Brown - Bedford Foll: Bradtke - vandenBerg - Sparrow I/c: Nietschke - to - be - determined

Pecking order and planning for future tall and small defender.
i think we might be more looking to emulate the geelong model of using mobile talls as defenders rather than genuine 'smalls' like us, they like to play a 7 man defensive set-up if you look at their grand final team, they had: taylor and henderson as kpp, then henry, stewart, blicavs, kolodjashnij (plus the option of tuohy) as mobile tall defenders, plus bews as their sole 'small' defender sadly i think nev might be cooked while lockhart does not, to me, look the answer as a small defender in the last round of the year we had may and lever as our kpp, then tall flankers in tomlinson , hibberd, smith, and rivers, while salem was the only bloke smaller than 6 foot in our set-up in terms of depth, petty is the obvious one as kpp defensive option, although t mac is an option here, while jetta and lockhart could potentially provide lock-down small defender options and bowey is seemingly going to be groomed for the smaller rebounding type fwiw i don't think our defence / defense was settled the entirety of 2020 - in addition to the 7 we finished the season with, we also had jetta, lockhart, harmes, and o mac playing through it at various stages the beauty of what richmond and geelong have is that they're all predictable to each other in terms of how they will play

Demonland Podcast featuring Jason Taylor LIVE Tuesday 15th December @ 8:30pm
taj woewodin sounds like a prospect we have serious eyes on, as does kalani white some further years down the line very interesting that they're focusing on bowey being a defender straight away; we clearly have a position becoming available in the coming years for a small defender who can hit targets by foot and execute the switch
