  1. Our mids will be licking their lips with Gawn and Jackson this week. The game is going to be fast and players will be spent, Gawn wouldn't be able to ruck 90% like he normally does, expect him to be standing in the goal square for periods of the game. Skills will be down so the ball will be contested, look at last nights game, the players couldn't run after half time, the could run to defend but then couldn't run to attack. We are just adding a lot of run and will back ourselves to run Carlton off their legs.
  2. I reckon these selections are based on the speed the game is going to be played at.
  3. Having our 3 small forwards as Pickett, Bennell and Bedford would be pretty exciting. Bennell is the silky skills we need kicking the ball inside our 50m arc, Bedford and Pickett bringing the forward defensive pressure. I hope ANB and Spargo become back up players. My team Jetta May Hibbard Salem Lever Lockhart Tomlinson Oliver Langdon Petracca Weiderman Fritsch Pickett TMac Melksham Gawn Brayshaw Viney Bennell, Harmes, Bedford, Jones
  4. To Trengove's defence he couldn't run after all his foot injuries. Prior to that he showed enough, we did completely stuff him up though. Pick 8 was the one we really stuffed up.
  5. Dangerfield would be one of the best kicks at our club if he player for Melbourne, he kicks the ball great. Don't need to tackle when you have the ball in your hand so much and damages you with his foot skills Buddy is going kick 1000 goals before he retires must be a half decent set shot. These three players can turn a game in a short burst, we don't have players that can do that. Petracca may be able to do this but doesn't at yet.
  6. Elite players need to be able to execute all the skills of the game at an extremely high level. We don't have to many players that we have confidence that they can hit a target by foot. If you can't execute the fundamental skill of the game at an elite level your not elite.
  7. Amend the first one to be last kick out of bounds and only between the 50m arcs not inside the 50s. It will be to hard for last touch with congested footy. 20m kick neither here nor there just gets rid of that questionable short kick that we see now. I reckon bring back the 25m line means every point kick in should go beyond this line and helps umpires with kick distance inside 50m arcs
  8. But female participation is up The AFL has hidden behind Female Football for the past 4 years. The VFL is an amazing product, lucky for me I can work down and watch a stand alone club which still has that community football feel about them. Casey has been a strong team based on good top up players and the Melbourne players being strong at VFL level but struggle to step up to AFL level.
  9. If only we could have kept guys fit. Ox would be number 1 by a mile if his body stayed sound. That 1998 forward line is the best we have ever had Farmer, Lyon, Neitz, Schwarz, Robertson, Smith. In fact I still rate that the best side in that era
  10. Did we take over casey anyway. I thought about 2 years ago we took the over, still run seperate but essentially is our 2nds side with top ups and our coaches same as other all clubs we just kept the casey name
  11. Winning masks or makes a lot of bad stuff go away. The Club severely failed with a group of young men.
  12. The worse thing is the Eagles didnt play well and I reckon played lazy football, they just let us turn the ball over and players were free forward of the ball. To me eagles were going half pace and we just kept giving them the football
  13. Oliver and Bradshaw can only run one way, Lockhart, viney and Pickett the rest are just woeful. Push May forward and Tmac back. May has done nothing wrong, and Tmac has done nothing
  14. Great to see our skills have improved. Can't remember the last time we had a side that could do the basics off the game well
  15. Consistency, they end result will take care of itself if we can narrow the gap between our best and worst football. Putting a win loss target or what position we finish to hard for 2020, just play good strong consistent football and I will be happy. No more quarters where we are just plain terrible.
  16. Charge admission, the AFL will be losing a bucket on AFLW, it's not cheap to host a game with venue hire, staff, umpires and everything else you need to pay. Simple solution we have to pay to watch men at both AFL and VFL level, we should have to pay to watch the elite females of the sport and they should get a percentage of the gate receipts. The AFL is scared as they don't want attendance numbers to drop, if you have a premium product people will pay to watch. The issue with AFLW is it's not a premium product, the talent pool is way to small to cater for the number of sides in the competition. It should be 8 sides max and only the elite players get drafted. Expansion for the sake of expansion doesn't make sense, it killed the mens game for 10 years and the product is still no where near as good.
  17. Great Respect for Nathan Jones, to play for as long as he has with extremely poor sides, for a club with massive off field issues and to stick fat, most players would have jumped of the sinking ship. The ship did plug the holes for a year but these plugs couldn't with stand the pressure of 2019. Hopefully we have a stronger ship in 2020, my fear is we will never have strong enough structures to stop the boat leaking again. On his on field performance, last 2 years he has be moved around a lot and really don't know what position they see him playing, he isn't a defender, gets lost on the wing and really is a in the guts type of footballer. Unfortunately, the club sees him behind a few for the role he should be playing.
  18. I like the idea from the other way, from Flinders Street to the MCG, they have talked about covering the rail lines for many years. Do this with bars and restaurants, open areas, then you creating a sporting and entertainment precinct that is the major access pathway to MCG, Tennis centre and AMMI Park. Add in some car parks as well so when the MCG parking is closed you have somewhere you can park, then you can always have one or 2 areas of grass open space for kids to have a kick at the MCG. Put an Oval outside the MCG for public usage(and MFC Training Base).
  19. Agree, you have surgery on a muscle bit of scare tissue and it is just waking everything up. He will have tight calves and need to manage them. He is the cream on a pretty good trade and draft period, no essential but a big bonus if he does get through
  20. We are the worst kicking side in the AFL, great on the club for using a junior training tool but my point is they shouldn't need to, the fact they are in concerning
  21. I'm not getting worked up about it, more highlighting that the club need to revert to an U9/10 training tool due to the fact the players we have drafted don't have the ability to execute the most important skill in todays game. So it isn't nothing, it is concerning we have to revert to this tool
  22. It shouldn't be needed to be used at players at the elite level, it is the basis of the game. I remember a few years ago Paul Roos came out and said that AFL clubs shouldn't be teaching players how to execute the basic skills. You won't be able to improve players at this age, the motor skill is already developed as soon as the pressure comes on you will revert back to the way you have been kicking the ball for the past 10 odd years.
  23. Not saying it wasn't a problem, it is a massive problem, just goes to show we drafted players that could win the football the disposal side was secondary, my point is players at this level shouldn't need a teaching aid like this.
  24. The coach, he designed the ball to help with ball drop. To change players at this age ball drop and action is extremely difficult and really shouldn't be something an AFL club should need to do
  25. These are meant to be the elite players of the sport, to use a coaching aid that is designed to teach kids is a bit worrying. To get to this level you should be able to execute the basics of the game at a very high level, to me this says we need to re-teach a number of players to kick.
