Not saying it wasn't a problem, it is a massive problem, just goes to show we drafted players that could win the football the disposal side was secondary, my point is players at this level shouldn't need a teaching aid like this.
-
The coach, he designed the ball to help with ball drop. To change players at this age ball drop and action is extremely difficult and really shouldn't be something an AFL club should need to do
-
These are meant to be the elite players of the sport, to use a coaching aid that is designed to teach kids is a bit worrying. To get to this level you should be able to execute the basics of the game at a very high level, to me this says we need to re-teach a number of players to kick.
-
Can't believe an AFL club is using the Mark Williams Ball, this is the one with the yellow line up the middle to teach kids how to drop the ball correctly
-
Weiderman look big across the Shoulders. He gets first hands on the ball hopefully in 2020 we see him strong enough to mark the ball more

The west Aussie boys leave Perth mid 30's degrees arrive at training what would feel like mid arctic conditions

The trade Draft period has been extremely successful for our club, I'm a B+ but that could quickly turn into an A depending if Harley Bennell gets through pre-season. He is that outside class if fit and in right frame of mind, serious ability and moves like silk. Lots of boxes need to be ticked off but getting Bennell right would really be the cherry on top of a pretty good period.

Maybe just add in Pickett to bring the height average down and add an element of a player that wants to hit players hard

Who would you have taken with pick # 3 - recruiters
drdrake replied to Romey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Would have been great to get Young and Jackson, then make our social home Young and Jackson pub. Spoke to a couple of contacts in WA about this kid most said think Jeff White great leap good mark but more agile. Wasn't a fan of taking him at 3 as we need players that can kick and keep the football, hopefully he can have that impact we need early as a forward ruck, then later as a Ruck. -
That's good he will fit in well with the rest of his team mates.
-
No one would have us taking Jackson at 3, not one journo or draft expert had Jackson anywhere near top 3.
-
Everyone is backing Taylor on the back of 1 draft pick, who else has he drafted out of the box that is playing above expectations, it is a massive risk taking Jackson at 3 a West Aussie that most experts have outside the top 10. Go and look at who we have drafted outside Oliver from the 2015 draft onwards 4 drafts not much else
-
Can you clarify, Oliver and who else has he drafted. We haven't had a rising star nomination for 2 years
-
As a couch expert we don't have many players on our list that can kick, todays game is keeping the football, we can't kick so can't keep the football, therefor game plan falls over. There is no such thing as a messiah in Football, you need a team playing a team game, we need players whether this is Young or not, who can first win the football and second have the disposal skills to keep it.
-
So latest rumour reported in the Sun we won't bid on Green to take Jackson, because GWS won't match the bid and we will be stuck with Green and GWS will take Jackson with 4. Something is a little smelly at the moment, if we hand GWS Green and Young we have to be to most stupid club every, which really is our drafting history
-
So we take Jackson then wait for West Coast and Fremantle to come after him, face that same Jesse Hogan/ Tom Scully talk everytime he is out of contract. Young is a player we need, footy smart and kicks the ball extremely well
-
MIght be more of an indication on who we will take at pick 3, a quick, marking Half Back with a great kick
-
be interesting to see if Bedford and Chandler come on this season. I thought Chandler's debut was pretty good and I reckon he has that pest look about him.
-
2019 we weren't fit enough because of our high turnovers. We ran out of steam because instead of controlling the ball we turned it over and had to work back all the time, work hard to get the ball again just to turn it over going into our forward 50m, we just didn't get a breather. Our fault though, tidy up the turnovers and you don't have to work as hard
-
Depends if West Coast want them or not. I reckon if WCE chase a player they will get them 7 out of 10 times. Freo take what they can get

Compensation for Loss of NT Academy Zone
drdrake replied to The Great Pretender's topic in Melbourne Demons
Do the get the Tiwi Islands as well or just Darwin, I think Hawthorn and Essendon have the Tiwi Islands and the AFL won't upset them. The NGA as it currently stands is a total farce, it is basically returning to the old Zones for the northern state teams and token zones for the rest -
Compensation for Loss of NT Academy Zone
drdrake replied to The Great Pretender's topic in Melbourne Demons
Massive difference, Sydney/GWS/Brisbane/Gold Coast have full access to any kid in their zone no matter where they come from. All other clubs are restricted to Indigenous and kids with one parent born overseas(multi-Cultured), WA in relation to other states have much higher participation of Indigenous kids in AFL football they will always have 1-2 each each from their NGA. -
If you look at pick 3 at the moment we have 4 players that on this site we the favourites for this pick Kemp, Serong, Young and Ash, my point in downgrading to 6 we will still get one of these players, then 2 picks later we get another pick and one of these could be still available or Flanders or best small or Tall Forward in the draft.
-
Understand what you are saying, we drop back 3 spots by trading 3 to 6 and pick up a first round pick next year. Based on what you say our current first pick in the 2020 draft is going to be equivalent to a third round pick, so we may as well not attend the 2020 draft, but we have to take 3 picks. There are kids that will be rated top 25 picks that aren't NGA/FS priority access to other clubs, what you are saying is we shouldn't try to even be in a position to pick these kids up and wait for the uncertainty of picking kids up in the late 30's, 40's and 60's.
-
so on that basis our current first pick in the 2020 draft will net us a third round quality player. You can't tell me that there are players outside the NGA and father son priority picks that aren't considered first round picks. You want a first round pick so you can bid on players that will take away clubs second and third round picks so you elevate your pick. If clubs like us that don't have any top picks in our NGA don't bid all off the sudden the clubs that do are picking up top line talent with first round picks then Priority FS/NGA picks with second third round picks. So what you are saying is our current first pick will be mid late 30's to 40's. The pick will be 8-15 we can't control what other clubs have in the FS/NGA so if that falls back we still are in a position to grab the best kids that aren't priority access picks, there isn't going to be any quality around with later picks
