Tairon Ah-Mu - No access for Dees NGA Talent
drdrake replied to demonglory's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, has been since its inception. You have this then next sentence Stuart Cochrane trying to get his sons eligible for port NGA as he try's to prove his indigenous background. How far back up the family tree are you allowed to go for indigenous players? -
Awesome, who will be there at pick 5 and who might be there after pick 10, I reckon we need to trade for another first rd pick, whether that is trading our future first or bundle up picks for a club that will get fs/NGA. Maybe Carlton if their FS will go that heigh
-
Who can win the footy, burst away from the contest and can hit a target, whoever the best at this should be our pick
-
I don't think Carlton killed this off, I reckon Harry and his management did. The deal would have got done with Harry and picks. Harry saying no way killed this for Carlton. We will never know the behind doors conversation, I could imagine MFC saying to Petracca you want out get us a trade that works for us and we will consider.

Is this the opportunity for the club to reset the list for another crack at the flag. I don't think we can win another flag with our current midfield, we need a better balance with contested bulls to silk ball users. We also have an aging ruck with no support. Trac is our best player, has the most trade currency, love him at the dees but we can win from moving him on. Get Tom De koning and Carlton first round pick this year, they don't want it they just need points for FS selection. Add in our 2nd round to get a future first as well. Get stuck into Gold Coast, freo trade future 1st for one of their 2024 first round picks. Take 3 first round picks to the draft and try to get 3 quality players plus De Koning. We have a good base of youngsters and some experience heads that should be around for 3 odd years. We can rebuild quickly, but we might need to lose a favourite ti make this happen

Who is in Tracs camp
-
I have no issues with Goodwin, he took up the coaching reigns from Paul Roos who based the game style around contested footy, we drafted players for that style, we won a flag playing that way. Issue is the game always evolves, to me know it is about turnover footy, pressure at the contest that causes a turn over then sling shot the other way to attack. The issues we face on the rebound we can't kick and end up turning the footy over which catches us out of position. He coaches for the players ability we have. Love to keep Trac but if we lose him we can set ourselves up for next tilt. Maybe the hard call to let him go could be the right call to bring in 2 to 3 young players before the Tassie invasion on talent
-
So essentially you are looking at Richmond, Fremantle or Gold Coast. Should we trade him we need to make a massive play at Harley Reid. We would have the cap space and draft picks, plus a lot of WA boys the WCE might be interested in.

I'm glad that this is going on. Great to get the senior players in a room for a truth session, get it out there deal with it and commit to getting better. These are the blokes that set the standards, the club and coaches can drive culture and standards but essentially it is the players that do this, they are the drivers if they don't buy in and drive it your club falls apart. Accept responsibility for the season, it is disappointing, how they respond in 2025 is the real test.

Yep, Vic government is basically broke, the big build is coming with a big debt. This means the positioning for any state money needs to show big community impact and votes. Geelong will be targeting federal money commitments from both parties for 2025 election promises. Our concern doesn't seem to be funding as yet, we still don't have a firm location as yet. Caulfield racecourse is the latest but really this is still a maybe. I wonder how much money the club has burnt doing the feasibility studies on various options
-
Very easy, you need to show a community benefit, you can't just go in with we want money for AFL training base. Look back at most my posts on this, there needs to be some community benefit. Geelong will add in indoor netball courts or something. Kardina Park has a netball outdoor facility, plus the home of AFL barwon umpires. They will add in upgrade to the umpire facility add inside cricket nets, netball courts. They are add ons to get the money.

100% correct, I had this discussion with a few years back, after about the age of 13 or 14 years old it gets hard to retrain someone to be a better kick. You can mask it but as soon as the pressure comes on the poor biomachanics kick in. It is a lit easier to build a players running capacity then try to improve their kick. Just on Williams, never been the same since Alan Richardson joined the club. Was front and centre in 2021 and now seems to be hidden in the back pocket.
-
Because supporters jump on forum sites, call the club, ring radio stations. Journos throw the out the click bait doesn't need to be factual just not defamatory. If they don't get clicks they lose their job. It isn't investigative journalism it is gossip magazine stuff
-
The end of the day he has a contract so unless the dees agree to trade him he plays for us. What I hope this does is get the change, start with assistant coaches, Chaplin and Stafford been there a long time we need fresh ideas. Mark Williams worked hard on our foot skills in 2021, our skills by foot are extremely poor, we just can't kick. The club won't trade Trac
-
You have to think that if he hasn't signed with the dogs by now he most likely is an eagle next year.
-
Be hard for a tall at Casey with the severe lack of midfielders they have. We have no quality ball users in our AFL side could just imagine how hard it would be at VFL playing as a key position player.
-
Jeez with all those flaws how did he hold his spot down back for so long. The last one about being pushed off the ball 1 v 1 is why I think he needs to be tried in a running position where getting the footy is all about running to the right spots. Again no idea if he has the tank to play on a wing, but if he can run it out why not free him up from that backline role and have a run on the wing.
-
Again no idea about his running capacity, good size for a wing. I like Bowey as I reckon when he is up and about his ball use is the best in our side. If I'm JVR seeing Bowey with the ball kicking into forward 50 I would be pretty happy. At some stage we need to get our better ball users delivering the ball forward.
-
Would like to see Bowey on a wing if Windsor is out. He seems to have lost a bit of confidence since doing his shoulder maybe get him running up and back on a wing. Has footy smarts, is generally a good kick, no idea about his running capacity.
-
Can we get some players with skills, we are forced to play slow predictable football due to our poor skill execution. The game requires high level of skill especially kicking, we just don't have many players that are constantly good by foot
-
Interesting couple of weeks, add in Hinkley if they miss finals.
-
I wonder if the Dogs will act on Beverage, usually when the first coach goes the next one isn't to far behind

"Very sore" Max Gawn in doubt for next Saturday vs Essendon
drdrake replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
100%, you can't ruck your best tall forward and best tall defender from yesterday. Fullarton just needs to compete, how knows maybe our mids can read the ball better off the opposition ruckman hands. You watch Clarry will dominate. -
So the mooted changes are to go back to the initial bidding system. NGA is a farce has been since its inception. North getting the NT, is this the start of a relocation process or at least a hybrid arrangement for north. The AFLs pockets won't be deeper enough to cover AFLW, GCS, GWS, Tassie and a NT side

4 umpires is a joke, you don't need 4 umpires. I understand 3 as the game is so fast. 1 controlling umpires 1 35 to 50m each side of the ball.
