I not 100% sure but 98% Ox sure that for these 17yo kids you can trade future picks. There was an article in the HS last week about Adeliade no willing to give up 2012 picks to GWS. In regards to only giving up a round 2 selection, if our first pick in the draft is a 2nd round pick that is what we will give up for Viney, that is if we trade our first round pick to GWS for a 17 yo at this years trade period. Compensation and Priority picks aren't included for Father/Son picks.

We want to keep our compensation picks and trade our first round pick if we can. That is the real win for the club, Viney is going to cost our first pick in the national draft, this doesn't include compensation picks, it means if GWS take our first pick for one of th 17yo Viney will cost us our round 2 pick and we still have our compensation picks. I have posted this a couple of times we could walk away from the 2012 draft with what would be considered 4 first round picks.

I'm a little amazed by the comments on Garland. I thought Garland had a very bad defensive game. Like his game against the bulldogs he doesn't man up, the G'banger smashed him because Garland zoned off him and I thought on Saturday night the same.

If you get a chance read the article from about Adelaide and the GWS in relation to the asking price for the 17yo kids they can trade this year. The thing that excites me the most is GWS are more interested in Draft picks for 2012 than this year. This puts MFC in a win/win situation. I keep pushing this because it is important that everyone realise that it won't be the end of our charge up the ladder if we lose Scully. Once again this is my win/win We keep Scully win, the guy will be a gun. We lose Scully and get one or two first round compensation picks. I think we will get two. We are getting Viney in 2012, it will cost us our first pick in the national draft, this pick doesn't include compensation picks. We put to GWS our first pick in the 2012 national draft, throw in a Bate or Warnock or Maric, to get one of these 17yo kids. By rights the kid we get should be ranked in the top 5 picks if they were drafted in 2012, Viney would be a top 10 pick. If we trade our first round pick to GWS we only will lose our second round pick for Viney. It will still leave us with the compensation pick or picks we get for Scully. That means in the super draft 2012 is meant to be we will get the equivalent to 3 top 10 picks and another before pick 20. Don't get me wrong would love for Scully to stay but if he doesn't and we can get the right deal done with GWS we could be big winners from the players we will get from the 2012 talent pool.

Agree, but I have posted before a better plan of attack if it works. If Tom goes, we get a mid first round pick and an end first round pick, these are like priority picks. We Know that Viney will cost us our first round pick, if this is can happy the MFC can win from losing Scully, we offer our first pick in 2012 and maybe a player to GWS for one of the 17yo picks, we pick up what we consider a top 5 pick of the 2012 draft for this deal. We then will only lose our second round pick for Viney, who form all accounts would be a top 10 pick, we then still have our mid first round pick and end first round pick to use. Which means from 2012 crop of players we will be able to add 4 first round picks.

What I think has happened over the bye week is the club has put it's best offer to Tom's management. The club has to continue with signing other players, we can't delay other player contracts due to the uncertainty with Tom.
-
They more than likely did and they all said no.
-
One question Tom has to ask himself is why? Why is a club offering Tom 1million a year, a player with potential but still has a lot to prove. A bloke who has only been in the AFL System 18 months, Why would they offer 1 million per year? Tom here is the answer, every other high profile top 50 player in the comp they approached said no. They can't land an A grade star of the competition so they are now looking at potential. Tom they are not offering you this because you are worth it, they are offering this because no one else whats to take it. It's like being an 18yo at a night club, you start with the best looking girls and through the night you work down the chain until someone says yes. Tom you are the ugly girl they are trying to pick up at 4.30 in the morning.

I don't know were we can find this out but can we trade our first round pick in 2012 to GWS and throw in a player as a sweetner, for one of these 17yo picks. I posted before if we are able to do this we will basically get what should equate to 2 top ranked 17yo in the country. We will lose our first pick for Jack Viney, but if we trade our first round pick to GWS for one of these 17 yo kids we will only give up a second round pick for Viney. To me if this can happen it is a big win for our club.

Every club has players out of contract. Players will be holding off discussion until the CBA is negotiated. Why would you sign now if you think your club might get an increase in the salary cap.
-
Just thinking about GWS and the 17yo, in 2012 draft we have committed to Jack Viney, he will cost us our first pick, can we offer GWS our first round pick in 2012 for one of the 17 yo we then only use our second round pick for Viney as it will be our first pick. If this can happen it would basically see us getting two of the best kids in 2012 group. And if Scully does go we might still have a mid first round compensation pick.

To me its all about his defensive pressure. These days small forward needs to lay 4-5 tackles per week and apply that forward pressure. I think he is a very smart footballer and I would love for the club to give him 5-6 games straight so he can prove himself.
-
If you were Matt Warnock would you want to stay on a list for depth or would you want to go to a club that you have a very good chance of playing weekly? Our depth for key tall defenders will be McDonald and Davis. Same goes with Maric, we need a small forward and he can't get a game, he will be looking at his options at years end. The club may have no choice to trade both Warnock and Maric or we me get the same as we got for Bruce.
-
Here are my thoughts, Bate, Maric and Warnock will look at their options, these three will not be happy playing at Casey. We will find a home for Warnock hopefully getting Carlton's second round pick which will be 40. Unfortunately I don't thing the other two have much currency.

What our club has been able to acheive off field has been amazing, tkae a look at our sponsers for 2011 I have never seen so many at our club, our membership sets another record, . The adminstration with the assistance of the media has been able to create a huge positive hype about our club. To continue this forward momentum the club may be forced to change the coach on commercial reasons. You imagine if we could land a Malthouse, Roos or Clarkson, we would smash through the 40,000 membership mark and would create more positive hype for our club. AFL is a business and sometimes you have to do what is best for your business.

On Friday night we had Jurrah, Green, Sylvia, Howe, Petterd with Watts, Jamar/Martin in our forward line. To me this is reaally 5 Flankers one young tall and the resting ruckman, we need a small forward to apply pressure and to be front and square. Davey is our man this is the position of most value to the team, really he started all this forward pressure when he burst onto the AFL scene. His chase and tackling lead to many other clubs drafting small quick forwards.
-
What you have said is right, but lets say you put Morton, Maric, Bate and Warnock on the trade table to me the only playere with any currency is Warnock. There would be a number of clubs looking for a big body defender. The other three I can't imagine there would be much interest, all three have the same issue great attacking players but limited defense, today's game you have to be able to go both ways or you are a liability.
-
We need to remember with Gysberts and McKenzie, they basically had little pre season this year, one coming back from I think Stress fractures and the other managing OP. On the coaching issue, we can not keep going the way we are. Last year even in most games we lost we were competitive, there may have been a couple but nothing like this year. The lose of Wellman is hurting us at the moment. Assistant coaches can make or break a head coach, I don't think Dean Bailey has the right people in the coaches box supporting him. Over the 4 years or forward structure has been bad, our clearance work is bad and our transition from back to forward is bad. If we extend Bailey's contract we need to put good people around him.
-
If you were at a club that may lose a player at the end of the year and one of the criteria for compensation was position in the B&F would you play around with the B&F figures to ensure that player finishes higher than he should.
-
The issue with Cale is he doesn't have a defensive bone in his body. The club has been trying over the past 3 years to get him to improve on this but he isn't learning. You can't put him on the Wing he just stands by himself, you can't put him in the back line as he doesn't like the contest, and you can't put him up forward we already have enough forwards that don't chase and tackle.
-
Wait till Darwin, injury permitting we should see our first three picks form '08 and our first 4 picks from '09, its a shame that our 3 early picks '07 are either injured Grimes or playing rubbish Morton or playing at Casey Maric. Maybe we should start calling Craig Cameron, Meatloaf.
-
You always look for positives and assess the reason we lost, here is both our best players last night were Trengove, Watts, McKenzie, Petterd, Howe and some had Strauss and Jones, the bulldogs best players Griffen, Cooney, Hudson, Gia, Higgins. The positive is our young players are coming on the negative as it is with most our losses ou senior players go missing. Our loss to St Kilda was the same we allowed there good players to play well.
-
We don't need to bash the coach, we have a number of young players that are developing but we played like a team that needs a break. Tonight was our 4 game in 18 days we looked slow and tired. The football department knows tht we have to get games into our young players and that is what they are doing. Do I want to see Bailey coach us next year, I prepared to let him earn his job over the next 8 weeks. One thing is for sure if he does keep his job we need to invest some money to get good assistants around him, I don't think the ones we have are any good.
-
What a load of rubbish, he came on we were getting smashed and got his hands on the footy. It is hard enough to debut but to be brought on as a sub would be extremely difficult. I was happy with Blease, same as Strauss he did a good defensive job tonight, I have no idea why Bailey didn't put Strauss on the G Banger.
-
Hopefully, we can increase our winning streak to 3 tonight and I'm confident we can. Our improvement over the past 4 weeks has come from our young players. Since our bad run of three losses against in a row we have welcomed back McKenzie, Scully, Trengove, Jamar, Garland and I think Gysberts as well. We have introduced Evans, Howe, Gawn, Nicholson and Blease tonight, you can add Strauss to that list with only 2 games to his name last year. Watts is getting better, and very soon we will get Tapscott back. Everyone talks about the young talent on our list, tonight we will see all our first round draft picks from 2008/9 play in the same team. The only early pick we are missing is Tapscott and he should be back in Darwin. In fact the only first round draft pick we are missing tonight from our last 5 drafts is Cook and Grimes.
