  1. Here's what was discussed on FC. Footy Classified 03/08/2009 more Footy Classified 03/08/2009
  2. That's a pretty strong statement you have there! Your saying the coach has thrown the game, that DB sat down and thought out a strategy to lose the game and put it into action. It is a disgusting situation for any professional sport (if its true) In regards to gambling I would have thought the bookmakers would have factored this in when calculating odds, especially as according to the media and the footy public that tanking happens in AFL. Anyway it an interesting opinion. I do agree Vlad and Co. are a disgrace especially in regards to the fixtures fiasco you mentioned. One positive thing about the two new teams though is it might mean that teams like the Stink hopefully may have to travel interstate a few more time in a season.
  3. Does anyone know what is happening with Buckley??
  4. His in the team this weekend. So I guess you must be stoked
  5. This is an interesting exercise. Just looking at it I reckon I could have a totally new category because we have eighteen players who I believe can not be measured at this point. Not Measurable ATM- Bail, Rohan Bennell, Jamie Blease, Sam Buckley, Simon Cheney, Kyle Garland, Colin Grimes, Jack Jetta, Neville Jurrah, Liam Maric, Addam Martin, Stefan McNamara, Tom Meesen, John Newton, Michael Petterd, Ricky Strauss, James Watts, Jack Wonaeamirri, Austin This is because these all have less than 1 season of games into them. The most games played by 2 individuals in this list is 21, not even a complete seasons worth of games. Seeing improvement over two years with an injury reducing total games played by half is harder because you need to factor in recovery from injury, weight loss, conditioning and match fitness before your a player is back into their groove. I believe after 50 games you sort of have an understanding about where a players is at in regards to playing AFL football. Prior to that I really could not say. So I know I would find it hard to judge something like this and I don't envy the people who have to make the decision to delist players. I reckon you could add Jetta & Moloney to this list. Jetta because we haven't seen enough of him and I reckon what I have seen with extra strength and conditioning he will be a solid player. Moloney will still only be 27 in 2011 and in IMO I reckon he will continue to improve if he can remain uninjured. Just a thought about KPP's KPP's are needed in certain roles but I reckon you need more players who can play anywhere on the field to assist with your match-ups and game day tactics. Having a players that can adjust to dampen the effectiveness of the oppositions most damaging players is becoming increasingly more important in today's game. Anyway its just a thought, it might not be a good one but it's mine.
  6. ATM our lemonade sucks the most!
  7. My theory is Robert Walls is a bitter, bitter old man, who needs some of those meds that Psychiatrist used to prescribed to couples with relationship problem in the 60's. In fact I have rarely see him smile and it worries me greatly, I have an overwhelming concern for that mans social and emotional well-being and I'm not joking. Of course we have an over reliance on Davey. Who else is there? We don't have any other fast pace players with his experience and skill to fulfill that role. I agree we do need to protect/block more for him to free him up a bit, but not just him the rest of our midfield also, but we just don't have that cohesion...yet! Davey needed to stand up this season and lead by example, he needs to continue to play the way he is playing. (Except for that shocking handball to Mathew Loyd) All our Senior players should be setting the standard for our younger player as it is important for their development. Anyway after all that can't remember if I agreed with you or disagreed or what the hell I'm doing I should be asleep now instead of typing like a roomful of monkeys. As an aside did anyone notice Davey's kick ins on Friday? he was doing an old smoke and mirrors/misdirection thing. P.s Pineapple
  8. I reckon you might be onto to something here, it's a pretty good effort at trying to get a handle on whats happening on game day. There have been a times during this year when I have seen a passage of play through the centre corridor where everything has worked, ie. handballs and kicks on target and ending with a mark in the forward line or a running goal outside fifty (sylvia comes to mind) Those little gems of plays are delight to watch and more importantly the opposition sides were stunned and defenceless against them. But, like you have said, it takes skill and hard running to pull it off. I am sure i have said this before but just in case I will say it now, DB is known for his skills at developing players and I think this is what we need. But it will take time. I also am not content or happy with where we are at, but as some others have said we need to be realistic. Feelings of sadness, anger or even frustration about your perceptions of whats happening on game day are understandable as a Melbourne Fan, its hard to swallow a loss, and it's great to vent every so often, even if its only on a Fan Forum. All I can say is one thing I have learnt as a MFC fan is that you have to take the good years and the bad years because their as inevitable as death and taxes. P.s Just another point, I don't think that this forum is off limits to criticizers of DB, Brock, Watts or any MFC person, It just that if you are prepared to criticize be prepared for people to vehemently disagree with you. In fact you should expect to have to stoicly defend your position as thats what forums are all about. Bunch of late night keyboard jockeys arguing passionately about the TEAM WE LOVE. P.s.s Can someone pull my rock back over the top of me when I go back under as I have RSI. :D
  9. WAHOOO!! I was going down the PUB on Friday night. NOT ANYMORE! I am really looking forward to seeing LJ play. Being an Aboriginal man who grew up in the NT and having been to and worked in Yuendumu I am so excited about this. I can just see friday night in the community Imparja TV blaring out of peoples houses and the shouts and screams of excitement when the games on. This is great for Liam, This is Great for MFC and it's an important event for Yuendumu. CARN THE DEES!
  10. So the original poster has not given us much to go on but from his only 2 post in this topic it seems he or she wants Hardwick @ the club in some role. But for some reason it's now become a DB debate. I just love how these forums go off on their little jaunts into the ether, it makes for hilarious reading. Anyhow, I actually like DB, fwiw I think he is going along fine, some would say I am happy with mediocrity, but I am just taking the patience option (it comes from having small children) now I don't know what his plan is, but IMO he seems to be building the team up from the backline thru to the forwards, or maybe it's just panned out that way with injuries etc. Our backline ATM is our most dominant part of our team and has been better then last year.So yes we are playing this ugly defensive football and until our midfield and forward lines become as strong as our defence that just the way it goes. With a midfield that's making good decisions and hitting their targets by hand and foot and targets up forward who can convert their opportunites into goals we will once again start making oppositions fear the red and blue. I reckon we will start winning games when our defence becomes like a brick wall that can shut down oppositions forwards and can pressure them into coughing up the ball. Geelong is a team that does that now. IMO when Geelong were developing to get to where they are now they started with their Backline and got their defence right because yes you can win by kicking more goals then the opposition but you demolish sides when you also stop them from scoring as well and I want to see a MFC that not only wins but dominates and demolishes. The question of whether players are playing for the current coach is an interesting one. Well actually, no, I lied its very uninteresting in fact it's a bit of a long bow to draw as there are a myriad of things that motivate footballers to play well and to put all the blame on to one aspect of that motivation IMO is not really an arguable point. So does that also mean that your concerns regarding this statement "but as soon as he outlined his gameplan, I knew we were in trouble" is now lessened somewhat by the possibility that the original game plan he had outlined may have now changed.
  11. OMG! you mean to say THE Randy "Macho Man" Savage will be available in the next draft. Which pick do you think he will go at? P.s Great Post
  12. Have you seen NikNat playing lately though? His time in the WAFL this season the Swans Coach has been working on improving his footy brain. His first game back from injury they had him in the back line, I remember the commentators scratching their heads trying to work out why. He looked lost at first but started to work his way into the game as it progressed. He has been moved all over the ground during the season and played a lot of differrent positions. He also has improved as each week progressed showing he can play in alot of different roles. His form lately, well last weekends game for Swan Districts 4 goals,21 hit outs and 15 possessions. The weekend before 14 possessions, six entries inside-50 & 1 Goal He was played up forward in the ruck and ended the game in defense. "Even more impressive than his stats, though, is his incredible pace, work rate and tackling ability to run players down from behind. He laid 10 tackles again during the game and looks ready for an AFL debut." Oh and he also did this . So it will be interesting to see how he goes against Tyrone. A Natural Footballer versus A Natural Athlete (who is learning to play footy) I whole heartedly agree
  13. Thankfully there are more of us now
  14. Short Answer: IMO Yes, because we drafted what we needed and what we were looking for in the future. Cale Morton Vs Cyril Rioli Two great young players who play different roles in their teams and are different in body type etc. As others have said we did not need another small forward at MFC and so for this reason I would not swap Cale for Cyril. As for the rest of the debate I'll leave it you all Have Fun, Play Nice
  15. I agree with most people here and like what DB is doing with the boys. I don't get to see as many games as I would like but the games I have seen this season have left me with a feeling..happy..hopeful..enthusiastic about the future.. um..you know.."it's the vibe of the thing, your honour" a good vibe in this instance. As others have said I like that we are using the central corridor as much as possible in attack, also it seems to me and I don't know what others reckon but we are also attempting to deny opposition players usage of the corridor when they are attacking. I remember we were successful with this against the Tiges pushing their attack to the wings and it was good to see it again against the Weagles on sunday. Anyway the future is bright for MFC "Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. 14% of people know that. --Homer Simpson "
  16. What a great reply! FDD
  17. No I live in La La Land. lol Dude you really need to let go, if you worry about others AFL supporters perceptions about our great club your gonna end up with ulcers. By the way, Its good to see the positivity coming back into the forum fanatics about the game. Yes we lost but their was a little improvement in the team, that we can build on. I am sure we'll have setbacks but I really think we are starting to get our ducks all lined up. The one big duck IE a major sponsor is still alluding us but I reckon we'll get one very soon. In fact I am gonna try out some prognostication and say we will have an announcement within 7 days. I just feel it in my waters. LOL Anyway if it doesn't pan out that way I reckon I will need to go get a check up at my GP cause I might have some issues down there if you know what I mean. FDD
  18. Firstly, its not apathetic to not overreact to the first 4 quarters of football played this year by the club (in the pre-season cup). Secondly, I don't believe that Melbourne's reputation in the AFL is for apathetic supporters at all. In fact that sounds like a lot of passive aggressive nonsense to me. FDD
  19. And of course young MFC supporters are going to be just too distraught from the fact that we were beaten by the 2008 Premiers to attend the Summit, because young people are so fickle. And the Oscar goes to....survival pfft its the first game of the season and already the AFL, prospective sponsors and supporters are all judging us. OMG what ever shall we do. Boo Hoo, you ppl are really depressing! 1. It's the NAB Pre-season Cup 2. We were playing the 2008 Premiers 3. They were playing the 2008 Wooden Spooners 3. We are rebuilding our team from the ground up Do you really think we were going to win? You are all carrying on like it's the end of the world. I hate that we lost too but whinging and whining about the first game of the year is a bit overly dramatic. Last years game we sucked for pretty much four quarters of every game. Our first game of 2009 and we did all right for three quarters. It's good to see someone who is able to balance passion with reason over the first game of the year. Now I want every one to take three deep breaths.... Breath in ..2.....3...and out ...2....3 and Breath in ..2.....3...and out ...2....3 and one more time Breath in ..2.....3...and out ...2....3. FDD
  20. I am confused, admittedly that is a normal occurrence for me but that is another topic for another time. Your thread is Titled "Why we finished last in 2008". You then go on to list our draft picks for the last few years and make an observation that "At this point in their careers I would only include Mclean as a very good player." Now like Two Sheds I thought " you're either selling players short, writing them off too early or failing to take into consideration that there werent any better options available." Why? because of the only available information you provided in your thread ie. the title and the body leads me to that conclusion. So my question to you and please I am asking purely out curiosity and not because I am one of those picky pedantic people who likes to pull apart every thread and the replies. What is your point? because I am still curious to see why you think we finished last in 2008. Felix
  21. So...um still no major sponsor then. Hmm well IMO I reckon we will get one. In honour of Australia Day I would further like to emphasize my view by stating "She'll Be Right Mate" and "No Worries" Oh and well done to the moderator for locking the other thread. (There's half an hour of forum reading time I will never get back) P.s I reckon Iva will be back. Felix
  22. Well that's true I guess but I never said my opinion was valued just that it was my opinion. I wonder how you value opinions anyway, frankly it must be like lots of things in life, it all depends self perception. Thanks for that dismissive and somewhat passive aggressive reply by the way
  23. Watts vs Naitanui what a choice I for one would not relish making the decision. After watching Videos of them play in the u18 Carnival I would lean more towards Naitanui. Why, he's fearless in his attack on the ball, he goes in fast and hard at it whether it's in the air or on the ground. Watts seemed to stay off the ball and hop around a lot and wait for it to come out. Don't jump down my throat all you Watt's fans but he seemed a little bit precious and show ponyish. Well anyway that's my opinion you might not agree with it, but hell you just read and you can't unread it so there nothing I can do about it.
  24. Juddy is a business man and made his decision as any businessman would. (more power to him) AFL is big business to sponsors and the like but to the fans its much more emotional. So yes we want him and no we don't want to pay too much for him. If you don't like it who gives a ___t! I don't know about you but I reckon there are players who do still play football because they love football, getting paid to do something they love is just a fringe benefit. So we (MFC) like you (FFC), want Robbie because he would make a great asset to our respective teams, if having his brother playing for the red and blue is going to sweeten the deal then why should we not use that especially when you are using money as a sweetner. Having a go at our discussions on how we could get him to MFC on this forum is an exercise in futility. Why? because your a Freo Fan! Having a dig at our team for finishing last this season is just petty and purile so in return i would like to point out to you that in the west for the last two years the buzz has been that Freo will finish in the top 4 (with short odds too if i recall). WTF OMG talk about dellussional lol Anyway we can sling mud around and get in to a argument over whose is bigger (mine is by the way) but really it achieves nothing. My main point is Your a Freo Fan who really gives a flying toss what you think about this issue! You have your opinion (which is wrong by the way) and We have our's (which is right because your in Demonland)
  25. Living in Perth I would not take anything The West Australian has to say as resembling the truth. They make it up if it's a slow news day and the rest is just rampant advertising of consumer goods no-one needs. (Gee its great to have a rant every so often ) I hope we do get Robbie W as we do need a tall Ruckman in fact we could probably do with two extra talls especially if the AFL continue with the 4 Boundary umps like they did late in the season. Getting one with experience and a rookie would be the best option but I don't reckon we should trade any of our early picks to achieve this. I think we all agree we are in a rebuild and to try and rush it by going for the short term glory never works. So we build slowly, draft young players with good foot skills into the positions we need to strengthen the side. Work hard at improving the foot and decision making skills of our current list during the pre-season. Oh and make the central corridor our "Biatch" To do it right you need to spend the time and when the time comes we can all sit back and savour the wins just like Geelong Fans are doing it now. (Smug Barstools) Anyway this is after all just my opinon and you know what they say... OALAEGO
