  1. if eagles now miss top four and/or have a poor finals series there might be a bit of animosity towards him as he would have been a big part of any finals success. maybe another reason to leave?
  2. no. just tackled after ball is kicked is just fine for the rule agreed may is different because this was a handball situation and wasn't a tackle. it was a bump and it was high you also can't tackle a player after a handball, but you can block or bump within 5m any player whether he has just disposed of it or not. the exception being if the player is attempting to mark the ball
  3. i don't think you can determine it by metres or milliseconds, that is just too crazy how is the tackler able to judge whether the ball being kicked has travelled 5m in a few milliseconds so it is ok to tackle. plainly he can't, nor can an umpire it needs to be kept simple. late is late, and i think this is what umpires judge it on. there is then (sometimes) a little bit of common sense, if the tackle is a split second late and the impact is inconsequential the umpire could ignore it like they can with many other marginal free kick situations the overriding rule though is you can't tackle a player after he has kicked the ball
  4. did we win? i haven't been brave enough to look at a paper or the news till today. phew
  5. i have never heard an umpire say a tackle after a kick was a free because the ball was > 5m away. They always say late tackle. i.e. a tackle after the ball was kicked. now it may be true that in a split second the ball has travelled 5m but no-one uses 5m as a yardstick because it is impossible for an umpire to measure with the speed of a ball immediately off the foot you might get away with a split second late tackle depending on force of tackle but there is certainly no guarantee. very hard for an umpire to determine a 'split second late'.
  6. you can't tackle/bump a player after he has kicked the ball. it must be only while he is in the motion of kicking. you could probably give a bit of leniency for being a split second late but any more time and it is a free up the ground are you saying i can tackle/bump a player after he has kicked it as long as the ball is within 5m? how could you possibly measure 5m when it is a normal kick immediately after contact with foot? it has always been judged on time after disposal. late is late.
  7. no you are not. he made up th 5 m rule, it doesn't exist for someone who has just kicked the ball hit someone late after disposing of the ball is a free kick every day, and based on lateness, not 5m now whether it is reportable is a different matter but got nothing to do with a mythical 5m
  8. well i'm not joining the girls misery club i'm still optimistic about the future (maybe not such much the rest of this year) we're definitely on the move.......rome wasn't built in a day, despite wyl's demands

  19. another accumulator
  20. just an accumulator. no impact.
  21. one doesn't have to match weagles offer. it is the other way around. player first nominates (say) melbourne. melbourne offer 4 years at 800k. weagles then have to match that offer. my reading is they have to match both years and amount per year.....or of course exceed them i.e. i don't think 6 years at 600k matches or exceeds even though total amount is greater (3.6m vs 3.2m) i could be wrong.......anyone have more info?
  22. not sure why posters talking of trades wrt to gaff the big attraction to us is that he is an rfa and trade free yeah, i know weagles could match offer and then it's trade time, but if it came to that we would not be interested
