luci, i'm not sure "he almost died on the operating table" is really accurate. this is a major operation where there is always a possibility of death it is also true that without an operation he would bleed out and die we would need to know the the exact words used and the context i've had 2 major operations where i could have theoretically died but i never "almost died on the operating table" despite the possibility.
