Haha! In Jack Dyers day they had 4 rucks to a team and no interchange. Ruck Rovers as we know them really only came in Barass's time
So couldn't rest them all in one place, and rest they did then - not as fit
Mind you they didn't have 200cm rucks either. Many got away with it at 6'
Agreed rucks will rotate rarely thru the bench from now on
So where do you "rest" them?
Basically two choices
1. Deep on the forward line
2. Deep on the back line
To me its an easy choice. The forward line is least risk AND easier to have a "rest" because you have more chance to "anchor" yourself. Plus when its your turn to go back in the ruck you are probably more "rested"
Of course relative to ruckwork it would be less tiring but not necessarily a rest except when the ball is in the centre or the other end
Don't forget in recent years Rucks have been MOSTLY rested via the bench - not any more
I don't want a tired ruckman roaming around the backline when it makes much more sense to rest him forward where he doesn't have to cover much ground
just another 2c worth
I'll stick with doggo on this one
If I was a fwd and a ruckman rested on me, I know what I'd be doing, run, run, run
And don't tell me he could play a loose man just floating, he's a ruckman FFS
Dead right doggo
You can "rest" in the fwd line if you anchor yourself to the goal aquare and provide muscle and a contest
Can't anchor yourself anywhere on the backline, gotta move, move, move
I don't mind the pick at all - esp if his fitness concerns are addressed
But there are no bold and decisive picks when you are talking of rookie picks especially at the rrrz end of the rookie list. Not being hard at all - just realistic
Now you are really streeeeetching it HT
Nearly all rookie picks are highly speculative one way or another
we were also desperate (rather than courageous) for a mature age ruckman
As for being a hand out recipient it all depends on the chicken and egg
Is it a handout or are they returning the "clubs" money to the clubs?
The clubs handed over control to the AFL to represent them (the clubs). Sorta like the feds collecting the GST then handing it out to the states with a little bit of adjustment here and there
The AFL want you to think it is a generous handout from a benevolent charity - don't be fooled. No clubs, no AFL (yes, I know, and vice-a-versa). They also reward themselves quite handsomely too.
Bottom line. Never feel like a social security recipient re AFL grants
This is all true, but I don't think it is a deciding issue
The offer on top of that to maybe win a flag is the icing on the cake
Swap Haw with NM or Ess or Syd or Rich or Bri or...... would the option clause be enough. I doubt it
just another 2c worth
I've been thinking the Bruce thing over and I'm coming to the conclusion he's doing a Stan Alves/Greg Wells.
I think he wants a tilt at a flag before he retires and sees Hawks as a better window
I don't think money is the real issue, although it always helps. Cam has a share in a successful business, has made a sheetload and by all accounts hasn't squandered his fortunes.
Contract term is a part issue, though at either Melb or Haw his chances of a renewal for 2012 will depend on 2011 form with maybe the Hawks prepared to quantify what is reqd in 2011 and Melb will only agree to discuss at EOY.
Just my 2c worth
I think you mean a filthbag
If an Essenscum player had a web site it would be because he was a scumbag
Come to think of it Dayne Beams would be incapable of creating a web site let alone be capable of any articulate scribblings
you're only stating the bleeding obvious rhino
I'm not asking for a rain dance, so far they deserve to lose
just remember there are many twists to a test match - weather included, don't be so sure of yourself
you can claim 1-0 only if and when it happens, thats cricket
After 3 days of the Gabba test the bookies had us at odds on to win
You should know better with cricket Rhino, its never over till the fat lady puts in an appearance
