  1. Only boomers would understand that....
  2. I think you kick better on your left when on a set shot, but have noticed doing more on the right lately. what is your preferred?
  3. At a sponsors event in early 2021 we were told there would be an announcement by year end by the CEO. ...still running the same line.....
  4. ...another week to go...FIFA requires the stadiums to be free for a week AFTER the last game is played. https://sport.optus.com.au/news/womens-world-cup-2023/os59834/fifa-womens-world-cup-2023-host-stadiums-melbourne-aami-park
  5. No he has a broken wrist
  6. When the AFL and multiple medical specialists are hell bent on trying to reduce the effects of head knocks, and warning of its long term consequences, it seems rather silly to be pursuing this activity.
  7. Spot on.....Alan Joyce at Hawthorn when he took over for one year from Jeans. They had won the Premiership in '86, runners up in '87 and under Joyce ruined our hopes in '88, and took out the Premiership in '89.
  8. Maybe we could call it "appointment" then.......same as " by appointment to HM of Romsey Manor" Surely a bit of extra internet browsing of dubious opposition sites, could sit alongside with browsing of other dubious internet sites? Or you could "delegate" said task to one of your underlings?
  9. Should do this tonight…..
  10. How the mighty Hawthorn have fallen.......love it, we always knew they were fudging their figures.
  11. And probably Howes by next year.
  12. Yours is always the best read after every match @joeboy. Keep it up.......and you are right....Tyson couldn't mark, or kick the ball to Melbourne players.
  13. Why isn't Marvel being used to showcase the game, instead of all these second rate country grounds. Under the roof, good surface, easy for fans to get to and more of them to turn up than some country town, with TV facilities already there to cut down the costs for broadcasters. From 1 September to a mid November Def Leppard concert ( a Tuesday) the only thing happening at the stadium is "stadium golf" a fabricated driving range for the day. The ground is now owned by the AFL.... play football there.
  14. The other thing which annoys me is the simple lack of respect for the AFLW by the AFL. How do you develop interest in the game and get ratings on TV when you send the games to Ballarat, Warrnambool, Alberton, Tasmania, Windy Hill, Unley, Arden st, Whitten oval, Victoria Park......crowds will be pathetic. There is a perfectly good stadium at Marvel under a roof owned by the AFL, where perhaps every Victorian team should play, with conditions guaranteed to produce a good spectacle, with modern facilities for spectators, and no advantage to any side.
  15. 3 Home games at Casey out of 10 games in total!! North 5 games at Arden st or Tas Lions 4 home games at their training base and an away game against GC and then another home game in R10 ( you know where that will be)
  16. We were kicked out of AAMI park for the World cup. Gosch's still available. Pies still have access to all their facilities, but their oval is probably being used for FIFA.
  17. No the current Board have said those monies will not be used for that (I don't know why) Why would the Board be loathe to tell the members what is happening?. After all they been promising this since they were put in place, and the Board before them, and the one before them.....I have lost track of the number of times at AGM's, player sponsor events and member meetings where this has been sprouted. ....but we can't tell you anything because it is "in confidence"....or "we will have something positive by the end of this year"......then next year " we should have something to announce by season end"..... It was meant to be in construction according to the Strategic plan by the end of this year.
  18. This was Schache's 50th VFL game between the Dogs and us. Should indicate to people why he isn't playing AFL.
  19. Collingwood did it, why not us? https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/club/member-events Club is falling back to the worst of years past. No notifications or even organising these things for members.
  20. This might not be the only flooding we have to contend with, just to fuel everyones MFCSS if the stadium goes under water: https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/storm-surges-could-hit-southbank-as-wild-windy-weather-crosses-victoria-20230707-p5dmfi.html and we all know we don't play well in the wet!
  21. 64,976 as of today.....now less than the same time last year!
  22. We have been kicked out of AAMI for the FIFA women’s World Cup. No point training at Gosch’s. The price we pay for not having our own facility. When some say our facilities are as good as anyone’s else’s this is only one example of why they are not.
  23. great read @Dees_In_October. I don't think we have a great weakness in the middle, simply because of lack of height. What we do have is strength, particularly Purcell ( how did we ever get her from Geelong?) and West. They never lose their feet and have that core body strength so critical in the middle. Hanks is building a similar strong core, and is able to find the ball at will....another critical skill in the middle. The return of McNamara is only a further positive to the mids. Lily is ferocious, but I fear as the AFLW body shapes move progressively to the more solid types, that she will struggle physically. It will be interesting with our rucks. Pearce can barely run out a game and will not be able to do so for the whole season, as we have seen in past years. However, when she is on the field she simply cannot be moved. Watt post injury will also be interesting. The age factor is probably not as great as the mens game, since the girls haven't been battered and bruised as much when they hit the 30+ mark. But if she can provide the "cut out" for Pearce that will be all that is needed. I don't like Harris rucking, simply because it takes her away from the forward line, but it does keep her in the game more, and boy is she scary when she attacks the ball. Likewise Zanker can only be a fill in, she is just too light to be hitting bodies in the ruck role. Better suited to other areas. What we really need is another younger tall for 2024 and beyond. I was wondering if Saraid Taylor could fill the role@ 183cm, nearly the same as Pearce. Losing Maggie Caris to netball again, at 190cm and only from the 2020 draft was a big loss.
  24. Managed is the term for JVR. We must not forget the kid is only 19 and wouldn't have played as many games as he has so far if BBB and TMac were available. But after this performance he will only get 1 weeks "rest" in the VFL. Jefferson kicks 4, but easy ones. The kid has huge potential, reads the play, great pair of hands, but has little physical presence yet. He also has to learn to jump off the ground when going for marks. Not close to senior selection, but will be next year. JJ just too good, and after this showing must replace Harmes next week. Verrell. Only his 2nd game, actually did better last week, but again a long way from senior selection, especially for a ruck.
  25. The way teams enter the forward line has changed, particularly this year. And no doubt it is all about statistical outcomes. We were training for "dump kicks" back in pre-season, and most of the teams at the top of the ladder now play the same way. The chances of a "contested mark" in the forward line with zone defences is next to zero. Clubs are depending on a deep kick into the forward line to create ground spillage and a 50:50 chance of getting the ball. Even better with good crumbing forwards like Pickett, Papley etc. Clubs will have done the numbers in terms of goal output. The argument that we should "lower the eyes" is also now irrelevant because of zone defences. It rarely happens to have a forward with space to lead into, and if they do it is almost always deep in a pocket = poor goal conversion. For fans it isn't as spectacular as the big forward taking marks, it's just how the game is played in 2023.
