How much easier if it is a goal if it goes through the goals. No touched, no posters, no guessing. Would also force defenders to keep the ball in play rather than try to put it through. I have never worked out how a "touched goal" is a point, but a "touched behind" is also a point.

Great report @Meggs.....after the game, I heard comments by Bec Goddard, the Hawthorn coach. She noted the interchange cap of 60 really limits most sides who only have 2 or 3 mids of quality. This means they will have to spend longer on the field and as a result tire. Importantly, she noted Melbourne has 5 or 6 quality mids unlike other sides.....Purcell, Hanks, Mithen, Paxman, West, McNamara and even Hore and Heath were run through there in this game. Combined with now 2 rucks in Pearce and Campbell ( a revelation in this game). It means we can keep running fresh bodies through the middle without taking them off the ground. This game was the perfect example with Davey and Bonnici tiring badly, and Taub-Frederick unsighted in the second half, apart from on the bench.

Pies will be much stronger this year with the return of Davey and Bonnici. Good to see Eliza McNamara back to strengthen the mids. Our side is looking particularly strong as well, given Gabby Colvin can't get into the side for her return after injury. She was definitely one of the first selected in the past. And when Rhi Watt and our super smokey Aimee Makin aren't in the running, it makes for a truly competitive unit. We just have to stop Livingstone controlling the backline for them, so someone out of Hore, Harris or Zanker has to make her accountable, particularly in marking contests.

Why does the team need 3 FF's and 3 FB's while they name only 1 ruck ( English)? Curnow, Walker and Larkey. FF's Wilkie(wtf!), Stewart, Moore. even Sicily? FB's It just means very good players in other positions get denied. e.g Rowan Marshall is a far superior player to Callum WIlkie.

The difference between pick 8 and pick 6 is nothing. There are multiple examples of good/better players being selected behind others. Geelongs next pick in this draft is pick 82. They have more problems than trying to gain pick 6 instead of 8. You cannot rebuild with 1 player. Tanking used to be all about gaining EXTRA picks under a defined formula. That disappeared years ago, so there is no longer any incentive to tank.
