Dean Bailey wrestling his Demons
jabberwocky replied to Heart Beats True's topic in Melbourne Demons
Has everything to do with it seeing as you ridiculed Bailey for having a mantra that I would expect every coach would have, especially the very best. All Coaches make mistakes. -

Can you provide some examples post 2009 of same? I think he generally gets his match ups right. Surely you have made mistakes in your job that has lead to your improvement? -

Criticising that mantra is ridiculous, the question isn't whether Bailey is perfect? It is whether he is good enough or the best possible coach for the Melbourne Football Club? If you have stopped learning then chances are that you are much further from perfection than you think. -

We have seen it, in fact it has been excellent in patches, no consistency however. I want to see some creditable perfomances and wins against good opposition. -
Please point me in the direction of these ridiculous opinions. If you can't physically pressure the opposition, win a contested ball or tackle then you have no place in the game. Not that I am suggesting that Morton can't or doesn't do these things. And expecting an AFL player to be physical is delusional?

Very good post. I will add that we had apparent issues with both our game plan and intensity prior to the injury disasters. We responded well against Adelaide but things have been difficult to gauge since then due to all the reasons you have stated. Unfortunately Bailey has not had the tools at his disposal to form a consistent response to a lot of the warranted criticism levelled at him early. Hopefully things improve on the injury front by mid season and judgements can be made on our processes and intensity. -
Nicholsaon has from reports been at least as good and on needs gets the gig. Good luck Dan.

Carlton dilemma over Brock McLean's spot against Melbourne
jabberwocky replied to Demon Property's topic in Melbourne Demons
We have put 5 years into him. He is a resilient, well built, skilled and determined ball winner who takes responsibility. We want to change the Melbourne ethos we do it on the back of a player like Jones. Still has improvement left. When he finishes his career will end up one of the most respected Melbourne players in the modern era. Currently near the very top of the untradeable list and set to stay there. -
Very unhappy with the club on this at the moment. Any chance we can trade for some testicles mid season.
-
Exactly, should have a good hard look at Noah for the same reason.
-
You want him punished by playing the role he used to play or by playing him as a tagger?
-
Definitely not ready to play that much game time.
-
Agreed, exceptional point, maybe he is physically closer than I thought. I am guessing that he would only get 50% game time or thereabouts if played. It just depends on if the club is willing to carry him through the game/s.

I remember when my home-room teacher got up in front of class and gave us a spiel about how if we didn't do 3-4 hours homework a night we would fail. A couple of the students took what she said as gospel, we used to call them "nerds". Some of those kids are now doing very well for themselves, they followed instructions. I believe that Tom's management have told him to play this a certain way. In summation Tom Scully is a "nerd"

May as well write an article about how thier side would be better with GAJ or Riewoldt. The only thing that irks me is that he gets paid handsomely to write that stuff, yet the gold I type here on 'land is all gratis. Hardly seems fair.

Carlton dilemma over Brock McLean's spot against Melbourne
jabberwocky replied to Demon Property's topic in Melbourne Demons
You need to ask why he wanted out. It isn't that simple. He wanted assurances that the club would not provide. Brock would not be getting a game ahead of Jones and Moloney in career best for or a more efficient (yet physically weaker) Gysberts at the moment. Jetta?, probably not either at the moment. -
Howe maybe, not keen to see Gawn yet. I don't want to see a young ruckman who hasn't grown into his body and has played almost no senior footy thrown to the wolves. Too much to lose for mine. We will need to look at some pacy defenders, we don't hav enough to cover Carlton's smalls in the senior side currently.

Thank you, Chunk embraces some of the concepts in which we are lacking. He takes responsibility, sometimes too much but he is heading in the right direction. He is proving that he is teachable, possibly the most important attribute in a footballer. As far as I am concerned he is as untouchable as Frawley and central to the culture of the team. He is good, I expect him to get better. What was Dane Swan doing at his age? -
Aslo a pioneer in altitude training, had a meeting with Gary at the top of a mountain where the new game plan was revealed. I'll stop now, I find it hard to take this thread seriously anymore.

Not wrong, I thought you were talking about Moses. Was good in the wet, walked out on Egypt who was coached by Yul Brunner. Went to captain Israel who were a new franchise coached by Gary Ablett Snr. The first team to have strict Dietary controls (Manna) and the game plan utilised the centre corridor. Preffered to go through through the Red Sea rather than stuff around the flanks. Later became president of the American Rifle Association.

Tom Scully is acting on the advice of his management ie to play poker. Though I don't know a lot about the kid he is a fairly dour, follow the instructions type kid. Why am I here again?
