Love this about him, along with all the other more tangible stuff.

Spot on. A few more kgs and some practice using them he will be very hard to beat. Very good game, you can feel his confidence growing weekly, as he attested a lack of it was what was holding him back.

There is a distinct lack of alphas and a silverback.

Might have been referring to my post which was an attempt at humour which went over heads or was just plain not funny. For the sake of my self esteem I will take the former.

Apparently the ash cloud has thrown a doubt over Max Gawn's availability

He is one of a number of very impressive youngsters we have that could end up with the job. The way he handles the media is also most impressive and he certainly gets exposure. We really do have a lot of good young blokes that will present an opposite problem to the one we have now. Sill I would like to think a well behaved Moloney could do the job for a few years. He with Jones have been the on field leaders this season. Colin Garland is a bit of a smokey for mine.

Maximus, Maximus, Maximus.

Great thread. I would hope that there has been and will be a big emphasis on strenghthening the bodies of our rather large lighter brigade. Everything I hear and read from fitness gurus indicate however that too much bulk on young frames can have a detrimental affect. The GWS fitness bloke on SEN a couple of nights ago suggested it would be three years to get the kids into a competitive body shape.

I don't mind the idea of a big body beside Jurrah. I have noticed that in the lead up to a marking contest he is being checked by defenders. Another big body might be able to block and make space for him, or take some focus away. EDIT: We know that Liam can crumb a few too.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Howe playing Full Forward. Is roughly the same dimensions as Jack Riewoldt and similar tricks I reckon. Also looks to have a decent frame to build upon. Cook looked great close to goal, but his ability to spot up targets would also be useful up the ground. The other 2 can play anywhere really. Jurrah would be awesome on a wing if he finds a way to stay involved. Still not sure about Watts deep, he may develop the strength, but his agililty and skills are wasted there for mine. I suppose none of them are really cooked, until we see how they fill out, what tank they possess etc it makes these predictions tricky.

Very poor analysis, loses all credibility when you isolate Gysbert's selection and you discount the late value picks that we have selected and some of the other wins. Not a balanced view.

He bleated at a Crown function that they have "got the midfielder we were after". Then contradicts that by saying it would be stupid to sign anyone. IE: Sheeds is being cagey, dishonest, or senile or my preference, a combination of the three. He and Gubby are playing games.

Doubt, lack of surety, lack of confidence, typed this in another thread. You might not present because subconsciously you don't believe you can beat your opponent, or that there will be better options, or that your team-mate isn't skilled enough to get it to you. When you stop putting attacking pressure on a good side they can run forward in numbers with confidence and make you look stupid. You see it when you coach kids and you see it in young AFL teams. Once the doubt sets in the rot starts. We need to develop these kids so they believe in thier abilities, thier teammates abilities and the processes put in place. So easy to say.

88 points = outcoached, outrun, outmuscled, outplayed and outscored.

Effort or lack of confidence and belief can appear very similar. Scully says ''There's been no approach (from GWS), absolutely not. All that stuff is external. I'll leave that to my management and the club (Melbourne) to sort out." Bailey, Connolly etc have always publicly maintained that he will stay. Velocity sports and MarK Kleiman (his manager) also stated that they have not had discussions with GWS. And despite making claims that Sheeds has already signed a "midfielder" he backpedals here stating that it would be stupid to sign anyone contradicting himself in the process. He also denies ever meeting Scully etc... http://www.sportal.c...ly-talk-126359. This to me has all the hallmarks of a contrived media sh*tstorm. See below. http://www.dailytele...r-1225830252733 Either Scully and his manager are lying or someone in a position of power is pulling the strings of the media.

Not yet big enough, strong enough, confident enough or smart enough. I would like to see progress in addressing the issues, particulary the latter two. I am sure the club would like like to see it too. I trust that the club has a clear grasp on what is going on with the troops. I trust the club.

We have been inconsistent, thus we need to become more....consistent. Oxford def: always behaving in the same way, or having the same opinions, standards, etc.

It's a chicken-egg scenario. Collingwood smacked the ball deep inside thier 50 because they knew there was a fair chance that it would be marked by one of thier forwards. Several times we had the footy between centre and half forward and either had no targets, kicked short to contests or turned it over while we waited for something to present. We struggled to win a contest and didn't back our forwards, and we didn't back our forwards because they struggled to win a contest.
-
One of the reasons they went inside more was because of the match up. There was no hesitation, they just belted it inside to Cloke's advantage. I would also suggest that not having a clear target inside 50 affected out count also. Too many times we had the ball between centre and half forward without a clear target to kick to inside 50, with our indecision usualy resulting in a turnover. We could put no pressure on thier backs or midfield and they just ran forward again in numbers without fear that we would turn them around.

As bad as it was we can see clearly some of our deficiencies against the top teams. We lack a big bodied forward, we lack genuine crumbers. We lack an agile, skilled defender who can break the lines and we lack another stong bodied KPD to play on the big boys. And obviously we lack the ability to win clearances at this time. It's a matter for the club to figure out now whether these holes can be filled through the development of players currently on the list or whether we need to make a purchase. Our personell just was not capable of putting consistent pressure on Collingwood, it was boys against men and they were very, very good.
