  1. St Kilda stuffed up SO badly with their first pick. This guy was a no brainer. You can build a list around him. Apparently he was thought to be a bit immature, yet all I see is limitless enthusiasm, loyalty and an unbridled team focus. I absolutely love this kid. I’m pumped about this extension. Super pumped!
  2. The current emblem is the best. By a mile.
  3. Should possibly also send a letter to Rory Sloane over the debacle over pick 35 in his draft too.
  4. That 2008 draft was a disaster for us. Sloane was a lock at pick 35, and then at the last minute we picked Bennell instead. Shuey was apparently (almost) a lock at pick 17, and then at the last minute we picked Blease instead. Pick 19 on James Strauss - well, this was just bizarre given that 10 or so of the next dozen or so picks were seen to be well ahead of him and virtually all of them turned out to be very good players. That draft really hindered our progress at a critical time for the club. Lucky we have Jason Taylor and Todd Viney these days.
  5. Another Max King? Max, Mitch and Max King - this is starting to do my head in.
  6. Nothing article. I say good luck to the guy - he was a decent player and, I think, a decent person. GetSwift’s corporate governance perhaps needs to improve, but there doesn’t seem to be any suggestion of impropriety here.
  7. Interesting question VP. I think it’s just risk/return territory i.e. with a top pick, recruiters probably feel safer in selecting a kid who has proven form over the past year. As everyone knows though, we closely followed Lever in his draft year and he was apparently in the mix for picks 2&3 but the club simply couldn’t go past Petracca and Brayshaw. Hence the Trengove to Richmond for pick 12 trade, which was to be used on him. Jaidyn Stephenson, who Collingwood picked up last year, probably fits the category of an elite junior with injury concerns who was still selected with a high draft pick. If Collingwood didn’t pick him, he may very well have slid to pick 20 or so. Spargo will be a player - you kind of just know he will. He’s the sort of player the Swans would typically land with a second round pick. Pleasantly surprised that we landed him though.
  8. I like Bomber Thompson - I always look forward to his segment on 360. That said, I can't stand James Hird. Or Essendon. I continue to loathe Carlton more. They're extremely loathe-able as a club.
  9. Needs to eat a lot of chicken this preseason. That said, I've always thought Taylor would nail his first pick this draft. Second and third round picks are where really good recruiters shine.
  10. Stand corrected. I actually knew this to be honest. Point still (kind of) stands though.
  11. His name is Tex. Says it all really.
  12. Well done MFC. Yet another quality player brought into the club in recent years. I'm pumped about this. No excuses for not playing finals next year.
  13. Are you talking about Jake Lever or Jack Watts? Kidding ...
  14. Pick 7 seems always to be the one to have.
  15. Didn't they recruit Matt Crouch with the pick we gave them for Bernie? They should thank us. Pick 45 should get it done.
  16. Apologies - I no longer know their names - immediately put them on ignore.
  17. If he does, I expect he'll be very proud of his son. 99.999% of posters here are absolutely over the moon that he's nominated this club.
  18. I'm having this very debate with a mate at the moment. Is Lever more likely to want to leave the Crows following a Grand Final win or a loss? I dunno really - I just suspect a loss will leave him less bonded with the Crows than a win.
  19. I'm doing exactly the same. I put it down to the fact that it's not actually a done deal, and I really want it to be a done deal. It's also why I'll be supporting the Tigers hard on Sat. I don't want Lever to feel ultra bonded with the Crows if they win and then for him to do something really stupid like sign a new contract with them. He needs to climb Everest for the first time with this club.
  20. As if we would trade Oliver or Petracca. To suggest that is genuinely ridiculous. Fair dinkum. I feel as though I'm reading the notice board of my 4 year old's preschool. PS. Petracca sounds like some kind of cool dinosaur to the kids. Henry loves him. Favourite player territory.
  21. If true, the pick 2 for pick 9 and Tyson will have turned out to be a very bad trade. Sheedy said to me at the time (at the Light Brigade Hotel in Sydney following a corporate lunch in the pres-season prior to Kelly's and Salem's first season) that it was a bad trade as Kelly was going to be an absolute gun. He didn't really rate Tyson and he said GWS couldn't believe its luck to have landed Kelly. I towed the company line and said we needed to build our midfield and we needed two mids rather than one etc blah blah blah. He just laughed and said 'just watch Kelly - you'll see'. If we let Salem go, it seems Sheedy was right. I really hope he's not on the trade table.
  22. I'd be extremely surprised if the club would consider trading Salem.
  23. Scully was the highest paid player at GWS and they seemed to have retained much of their required talent. If true, this just needs to be managed well internally. Lever is an obvious player for a club like ours to break the budget on. I suspect the players understand this. Howe and Lumumba trades aside, our list management and recruitment strategy seems extremely good these days.
  24. And that's exactly why he might be traded, particularly if (out of left field) we may be able to snare Menzel for less than a sheep station.
