  1. I thought I would add my two bob.. No every member has the financial ability to become a member when they wish or join as early as they wish. I'm a gold members but there has been years where money is tight and i haven't joined till after the season has begun but its been continuous through one of the worst periods since the early eighties. That is not because I wait to see if we are winning games, but that xx amount of money becoming spare. For example this year it was delayed as we now have four members in our house up from two last year, so i had to find double the amount of money. So no one should never hang their head in shame if they can't afford it.
  2. During the Carlton v Richmond game, I think was commetti used the following line, when a Carlton player got our of trouble: "He danced out of trouble like Robbie flower" It was good to hear. I thought I had posted this earlier but it seemed to vanish...my apologies if its a double post..
  3. every time a team walks onto the park it can win...ours is no different..
  4. Did anyone else hear the comment in the second quarter on Thursday night, when a player(can't remember who it was) did some fancy footwork and the commentator said: "He danced out of trouble like Robbie flower" made my night.
  5. hopefully we have a better than budgeted year and they almost clear it! As I imagine our estimates will be pretty low in terms of revenue.
  6. yep players stay with successful teams as a general rule..
  7. thats great new as they are in my dreamteam
  8. Personally I think they should keep the top 8, Going to an expanded finals is simply about money. Before the expansion the old final 5 out of 12 worked well (except for us missing the finals by a game or so lots of times) Buy letting in half as we do at the moment I think it devalues the who finals cencept and the last few normally just make up the numbers with no real chance.
  9. I was at the game and found: (1) Lack of work rate/desire Big issue, especially in the first quarter, basically the game was over by then. We did not come to play. Picked up after qtr time and there was some good ball movement in patches as the same as last year. (2) Lack of fitness I thought the boys kept running to the end of the game within reason, so I think our endurance has improved to run over the coarse of a game (3) A game plan that spread the Melbourne players away from the play Personally I don't like zoning, going man on man is my preference. Though when I play locally I do sort of zone as I'm older and slowly than most of my opponents The initial forward setup was what they were training on the Saturday here in Perth, they just could not set it up once. Using the potential speed off the half forward to run for goal will only work once or twice. I remember when balmy tried it in Adelaide one night as we had no forwards, and used Charles and Farmer in the same manner. Basically as we didn't run man on man, the dockers often has spare players for the switch with not a dee in sight. Also without a long target deep in 50, we had little options to kick through the lines from half back or the wing. hence we went sideways. Also the reluctance to go to a contest and trust our teammates to win the 50/50 ball. This is the most frustrating things, by playing safe its takes away the players natural instinct and sometimes you have to kick to a 50/50 as its the fastest way to goal. My biggest beef and I raised it with bailey a few years ago, is the forward setup. With often 1 melbourne player leading for the ball inside 50 competing with 3 opponents, and no support. It was common again on Sunday night. This can be taken to way, players not running to support or the kicking playing isn't seeing what should be 2 free players on the field!! (4) Melboune players not up to standard As others have pointed out the dockers overall had a more mature side, and smashed us in the middle. The worry is most of our midfielders were playing. The dockers ran better in packs and support and had a marking targets inside 50, which we only has Miller.
  10. Hi All Just a quick update on a training run the boys had in Perth yesterday. All looked good and the drills went pretty as they should have with good. CC gave everyone there an update. Basically the players that missed out due to injury would have played if it was round one, So most of them are minor niggles only. I've attached a few picks fro yesterday.
  11. After reading it I say its aimed at high school, as they allow a day for the teachers to visit us poor uni students miss out again
  12. oops my bad, I just look at the numbers. Its a big list anyway
  13. Pointing out the obvious, naming 48 players really doesn't give a real indication of who will play on Sunday. Its almost every listed player!
  14. I hope we win as going tot he game. Besides freo's practice match was nothing special at all...
  15. Maybe its because "Red & Blue" are the best colours and imitation is the best form of flattery. On the dockers, its a mess of a jumper, designed by a committee where they couldn't agree one a single concept. Haven't seen the gold coast so no comment. Lastly the clash concept should give priority to the oldest clubs with newer clubs having to wear a class jumper with their older brothers if their is one. Thought it is a money spiner!!
  16. 2 extra years. In my limited interactions with him I believe the club was along way behind other clubs in terms of developing young talent during the ND years. Therefore this year is really when his coaching will begin, so an extra 2 years would give him time to build the team he wants. I can imagine he got the job by being brutally honest about how he viewed the success of the club over his first two years and what was required to improve it. This view would have been shared by staff in the football department who were honest in where we were sitting. Information that he didn't want to chase a marque player reinforces that view. So now he has a great base of young talent and can mould it to his vision. I believe we'll win more games this year than experts recommend and be more competitive overall. Even last year the number of floggings declined even against the good side, we just didn't have the finishing power in the team to get over the line. The future is bright and Bailey will be there till the end of 2012 if the club sticks to its plan.
  17. While I agree the lack of financial knowledge of the reporter shows through with the simple analysis. The biggest concern is the total revenue at: Revenue: $26.1 million We have the lowest turnover($) of all the clubs and that is where we suffer. While this will improve with on-field success having more money flowing through the club is what is required. The paper profit at the end of year is just book keeping and easily manipulated.
  18. I missed the game this morning Dee v hawthorn, would it be possible to get a copy from someone who recorded it? Gladly pay for the media and postage. Let me know.
  19. Can you guys give me the link on where these one's are listed as I went to the seven site and it only shows till the end of today! Cheers
  20. bugger Monday night, missed it, that was a great game, plus we had to win to make the finals!! Anyone got a copy?
  21. Today is a great day...pity I dont have foxtel.
  22. No way in hell, we have endured the pain and its time for gains...never again.
  23. I think it is a good choice. Over 30 years experience in successful environments, Tigers/Bombers. He'll also surround himself with young assistants that will do most of the work, he'll act as the spokesman and overall senior coach/mentor. The other thing is marketing ability and his personality to promote and communicate his message. Whether he wins alot of games I dont know but he'll provide a good foundation to the club. Similar to what RDB did when he went to help Sydney.
