  1. Gawn = Shrek (check out his facial expressions in his photos) .
  2. I get the feeling Jack Watts will be a similar athlete and in much the same way win the respect and adulation of other supporters. They both have that humbleness and boy next door looks.
  3. So dissapointed for Aussie. He worked too hard over preseason and got really lean and hungry- hence constant injuries due to lack of adequate nutrition and layer of fat to prevent friction and impact injuries. Needs to go back to his Islander diet - such as rich turtle meat and come back looking like Derek Kickett - no one would be able to stop him then! Just look at Stewy Dew!!
  4. I am a big Nathan Jones fan but I agree with his critics that he tries to do too much in the midfield when he should take the first good option available. He is super strong, ironed willed, courageous, good overhead and has a super long kick. After watching Chapman play in the last couple of weeks I really think Jones may be able to play a similar role for us. I recall Jones kicking 4 goals against Brisbane as a resting forward. Fodder for thought.
  5. I actually think this is a similar situation to Mark Taylor declaring rather then breaking Bradman's Australiam highest score record. He realised that Bradman had been a far superior player but he (Taylor) had always been a better team man - sometimes better to be true to yourself and being remembered for what you were great at - selfless - then chasing personal glory and individual records.
  6. Based purely on impact on game on their best day: 1. S Tingay. 2. T Johnstone. 3. G Lovett.
  7. I just love the fact that someone who does not even like AFL (AKA my better half), is suddenly cheering for one Mr LJ Walpirri-Wizard. He has spellbound Melbourne Town.
  8. Excellent post. Love the research and the fact that he was actually getting paid to promote online gambling in the guise of denying rumours. Soon we will see one Mr C Judd actually promoting Visy.
  9. Great post. I am reminded of a Homer Simpson quote - something along the lines of "75% of people know that statistics can be used to prove anything". Seriously though - interesting to see that in 2003 Geelongs only debutant is Moloney. Jamar and Rivers also debuted that year - are really starting to show something extra this year after bad injuries. Get the feeling Jamar has finally realised he can have a big say in games by playing his natural game - the enforcer - much like Hudson. Hopefully our team becomes as skillfull as the doggies - to clean up the scraps.
  10. 30,350 in honour of Jimmy. I also think a lot of non Melbourne supporters will turn up just to watch Nik Nat - but will leave with their jaws dropped when they see what LJ will do at the MCG.
  11. Welcome back champ - you are the Anthony Mundine of this forum.
  12. I was at that game - Trav showed a lot of skill - from memory I think we were in a position to win it when Yze and Robbo knocked eachother out in a terrible collision - typical of our luck.
  13. I am sick of all this negative talk about MFC at the moment (listen to SEN). So I started thinking about how much our team has changed over the last couple of years. What if our best team from 2007 played our best team from 2009 - based on form from - not potential. 1. Who would be in the teams? 2.How would they line up? 3. What tactics would the coach employ? 4. Which team would win? 5. Which team would win if the same teams played eachother in another 2 years?
  14. I watched Casey on the TV this afternoon and listened to the MFC game on the radio. We need to get rid of Robbo and bring in Newton - he works well with Watts and Jurrah. Replace Whelan with Strauss - he has great foot skills (elite) - casey style of play is not helping him!
  15. In the last 3 weeks something just doesn't feel right - has the coach lost the players?? Is Chocco coming to Melbourne??
  16. I can't believe how unskillful we are. Don't forget we beat the Lions last year.
  17. Watts and Jurrah are our best finishers, so why are our shite senior finishers like Robbo, Bruce and Miller calling for the ball from them in scoring distance!
  18. One of the commentators on Triple M mentioned (just as Watts was abou to have a shot on goal from 50 m) that some of the senior players were playing like they were jealous of Watts being a Number one pick and were not happy playing with him. Interesting comment considering MFC have been playing really selfish football since Queens Birthday weekend (debut of one J Watts). But then again the commentary has been shite.
  19. From what I have seen of Watts and Jurrah they are natural footballers who are also excellent below their knees. I think they will be able to able drift up the ground and get their own ball or play the link man. Miller has shown he can be an excellent defender. I think Newton can play a Shaun Smith role in our forward line - sneak up on the opposition as the third forward. From memory I think Bate was an all Australian midfielder in the U18's. Robbo is alwys going to be Robbo and will finish his career in the same mode as Yze and White - in and out of the Ones.
  20. First time I have seen Jurrah play. Has excellent skills. Can tackle and has class written all over him. Must have huge hands, took a grab in the first gtr where he ended up clutching the ball in one hand. Is a very penetrating kick - kicked a goal from outside 50 against a strong breeze. He reminds me of the guy from that movie about an African Warrior being recruited to play in the NBA. He will have a cult following in the Dees colours.
  21. Really unlucky - but he will be back. Started playing footy very late - wants to play as a key forward - will learn the trade at Casey. Already knows how to play down back and is incredibly fast. Could be Melbourne's X factor in a few years time.
  22. I am so glad this match is being televised. Really looking forward to seeing Jurrah play. Not to mention the rest of the young guns!
  23. Thanks for the comprehensive wrap. You are a credit to this organisation.
  24. Good point Jerry. I get the feeling Watts will be a very complete player in the sense that he will be able to play any position - thus being able to influence games by getting the ball himself and inspiring by action and leadership. Look at Franklin, he can play multiple positions and is also able to break the game open from anywhere with his atheleticism and freakish abilities. I get the feeling Watts is just playing his role down at Casey and by all reports doing his role really well.
  25. Thanks Freak - yours stats and summary give a great indication of how the MFC listed players went.
