I don't believe that it is a recruiting failure, simply because someone taken after your selection ends up a better player, but rather, it is when you take someone with a high pick, who is never going to make it in the AFL and as we have seen in the past, even at VFL level. Obviously players develop at different levels and will do differently if in good clubs or poor clubs. But when you waste a high pick, on a bloke who just can't play at an AFL standard, after being given time to develop, that is when you have a recruiting failure IMO.
