WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
Redleg replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ben, who turns 20 next Friday, played his first AFL game in 2014 against the Dees and now will play for them. -
Obvious why North got rid of him, he is too articulate for the Shinboners.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

It is amazing how close the statistics of Cameron and Brown are, except in one area, their trade price. If Brown recaptures his best form, we have got an absolute steal. Well done JM and those involved. -
Has just added 16% of the team so young players drafted won’t be getting past the new 3. Will probably draft a future star at 96.
-
Lets hope, that would be great for him and us.
-
I accept that, I just thought he would be a good fit for us and cost nothing. He went for 65. I see him as better than anyone we have atm, to play the non Langdon wing. I also think a 3 year x $400k -$450k contract would have got him. If Oscar is delisted and say Mitch Brown, that is his salary. We will see how he goes the next couple of years. With Jones, Jetta, ANB, VDB, Hibberd, Melksham possibly and others to go next year, we would have savings for Clarry etc. Also having kept Tom, I would be fairly confident he would now agree to say a 3 year contract based on his 2 years owing and maybe $250k for the 3rd year, split equally each year, thereby saving more the next 2 years and probably getting a bit more for Tom with less Tax each year. Then again, it's done and I could be wrong. I recall being wrong once about 20 years ago. It's late, time for bed. PS. Mahoney was great again and the Brown deal was sensational for us.
-
Correct. See my previous post above, it appears "we" didn't want him.
-
Correct. Read my second line. "Dees obviously think he is no good." He was apparently ruled out by us very early in trade period, as reported by a few in the media.
-
I am disappointed with that. Dees obviously think he is no good. I don't accept it is salary as we could move on others like Mitch Brown and give Phillips an extra year at a lower salary, but paid in 3 instalments, getting him more and with less tax.
-
I would imagine Mitch Brown might be on the way out as Tom is staying.

Did we draw a good barrier? -

Disagree. We are not a quick side and have even said we were looking at outside run and identified Smith as a possible, for a 3 year contract. Just because we had a purple patch in the second half of 2018 doesn’t make us a quick side. I think most would agree that Blues and Saints are quicker sides than us and they keep loading up on pace. -
Pity.
-
And if we said to North, we will get you Stephensen for Brown and then force Pies to take a lower 2nd round pick, as they just have to salary dump, it gets better.
-
As I said when Treloar move was mooted. Unless Pies paid at least $300k each year for the 5 years of the contract he was staying. Looks like when Dunkley goes he comes in. Pies will still need to do a bit of clearing so guess Stephenson will be a Roo today and HOPEFULLY Phillips a Demon.

6.00 pm and probably yes.

Good to see that you have woken from your drunken stupour and crawled upstairs, from your dungeon wine cellar.
-
They were spooked by the Papley result in moving picks and couldn't afford to not get Saad for their fans.
-
Don't think he has won a Coleman. Few seconds and thirds.
-
Essendon has received $6.28m in funding from the Victorian state government to complete the second stage of the development of its training centre.
-
Saad was traded for Bombers 2018 2nd round pick in Oct 2017. That pick would have been about 26 and then pushed back so probably ending up about 30-32.

Which BB won't help. Interesting a side like Carlton which is probably a quicker side than us, said they needed more speed and together with the Saints, have brought in a number of quicker players over the last 2 years.
