The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Yes I posted that very thing earlier and it's only a matter of time. Then when the player complains, another 50. Hope it's not us.

2022 Match Review Panel
Settle down Jaded. How Cotchin didn’t get at least a week is mind boggling. He could have really done some major damage to Walker’s leg with his studs. No wonder Walker was furious with the MRO on radio yesterday. The AFL didn’t like his comments, but watch them do nothing, to make it all go away. Cotchin has repeatedly got away with incidents that others would have been penalised for.

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Not according to 20 year VAFA umpire Brian Clarke, who says it is making it much harder for he and his fellow umpires and leading to more crowd anger. Veteran former AFL Umpire Darren Goldspink agrees with him. If they follow the AFL on this in junior footy, more morons will attack/abuse the umpires and cause even more problems. People need to understand that everyone agrees with umpires being treated respectfully. It is the heavy handed approach of the AFL that is the issue here.

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Think you have missed the point. That is clear dissent and has always been. We are now penalising players who STAND on the mark, don’t say anything to the umpire, or even look at the umpire, but merely put their arms out. Too bad if they put their arms out, merely to put the player having the kick off his kick. The rule is arms out 50. That is a joke, except nobody is laughing.

Clearly it’s do as I say, not as I do.

NON-MFC: Round 5, 2022
McKay cops a fine for being bumped and falling over and this bloke launches into a space orbit, after a hand on his arm, after he initiates contact and gets off Scott free.

NON-MFC: Round 5, 2022
Other than our winning lately, I don’t really enjoy the game anymore and I blame the AFL for that loss of enjoyment.

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
I hope we tell our players not to appeal for frees, verbally or with hands out, as that will have to be a free and 50 against us. If the umpire didn’t award a free, appealing will be against his decision and obviously under the rules dissent. My anger is with the AFL, not the umpires, as I have posted previously. This is a pathetic and unnecessary rule. It has always been a rule that dissent is penalised and we should have left it at that. Clearly former umpire Goldspink agrees, as does nearly every ex player in the media.

NON-MFC: Round 5, 2022
The biggest staging of recent years gets a goal from a free and 50 and cops no fine. Tom Hawkins does it again. I give up. The MRO is just a joke.

Robbo gave the solution, do away with all the players and use robots.

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Agree with the thrust of your post, but disagree with the way they have brought this in. Any abuse to an umpire should be penalized and I am sure we all agree on that. I just don't think that every bit of frustration, or even guarding the mark with hands out is abuse. They have even given a 50 for a player shaking his head. That could be at himself. I don't agree that putting the arms out is a 50, otherwise you can't even STAND and guard the mark. It is an overreaction. This is being badly adjudicated and is another reason to criticize umpires. The umpires don't need this and it is unhelpful to the cause. Just make it any DEMONSTRATIVE gesture or verbal abuse aimed to the umpire. This is a perception rule and made so the crowds see no abuse of umpires. At the moment it is a farcical rule, bringing the umpires under more attention. They don't need it and neither does the game. PS: Imagine losing a GF, because a player is waving his arms at the player having a free kick or mark, to try and put him off his kick and a 50 is paid for abuse, giving his team the winning goal. That would not be helpful to umpires.

I could imagine, that famous dummy spit of BT, where he was shaking his fist in the face of the umpire and ranting and raving, would today earn him life imprisonment from the AFL.

My 3 word player analysis v GWS
One of our best during the 3rd quarter when we smashed them. Created numerous opportunities which we took advantage of and the players got around him.

Agree Picket. A player frustrated at himself gets pinged for dissent. It is ridiculous. Demonstrative or verbal dissent is fair enough, but they have gone mad and it is so arbitrary. I agree with Sheedy it is ruining the game. How many sportspeople can say something to themselves during their sport and this is now dissent to an umpire. Yet others are allowed far more latitude on an arbitrary basis. It is inconsistent and easily open to misuse.

I suspect that if it was just a 2 year extension it would have been done. I think we are looking at a longer period, if he is happy to stay.

2022 Match Review Panel
A small difference is that the Ryder bump caused a concussion, forcing the player out of the game and missing probably this week at least, while Blakey got up from the English bump and played on.
