Happy to have Pickett and vdB running hard into this mob. We still owe them for Snake and Greeny IMV.

I can see kozzie coming in and some change in positional movements to suit Bombers. But the strategy seems to be to let these 22 gel to be our best team available. So the tactic of changing unless critically needed would go against the overall plan. I think Jonesy and Jacko and Smith will have 2 or 3 weeks more. Id hope so or Goody will have been pressured out of his original overall plan.

If it is impossible for mids to drop their eyes and look to hit someone up, maybe we do need 3 talls in the forward line.

An unintended consequence of no AFL for the 1st part of the year was the rest of the family's disinterest in it becoming vocal. AFL in the past had always been unspoken priority, but Id lost my privileges. By yesterday i could sense a gritty losing battle. Enter a 70" Ultra HD 4K TV for the man cave. My barely used BetEasy account with $2 left (thanks Demons) has led to Kayo being added as a free App for 3 months. Just finished setup connecting with the LAN. Me and my new scarf are chafing at the bit. C'mon Demons!

Even if we dont do as well as I expect, we now have made sweeping changes that should only need slight adjustment going forward. We bit the bullet and just have to let the newbies show Goodies faith. Might take a couple of weeks.

Needs "ball"!, "Man!" and ironical jeering when 1. ex-player gets it or 2. expensive player finally gets it or a free kick is paid after one team hasnt been getting any.frees. And certainly needed "In the Back" last night.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Damo replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
I cant help but hold my breath as I want the best for Harley and the Demons but: His halcyon days are past He is possibly being told to not go 100% He may overdo it He could finish up if another calf injury occurs Lets just get through the Carlton game. Good Luck HB -
Lever hasnt trained much lately and missed the inter-match game.
-
Thats a pretty good team. Bennell 1st game, Pickett 2nd game. Not too many changes. All those emergencies are 1st drop for me at this stage. I hope it isnt far from the team picked.

Joe Daniher is finished. If he wasn't, he would still not go to another inner Melbourne club. Thirdly you cant deal with Essendon. -
I think Lever is on shaky ground and if he is injured even slightly they wont play him. He needs to be more than a modern Zac Dawson and go for marks rather than punching. Id play Smith instead if Jake is injured.

Not only did Barry Prendergast lie to Sloane and his folks, and overlooked him twice, he chose Sam Blease. This particular act of choosing a flakey winger instead of the Captain Rory Sloane of Eastern Ranges 2008 is unforgotten. Sloane never rated Blease at all. Wants to be a one club player but has close family ties in Melbourne.

Looking at the vision of todays hit out, HB just glides across the ground. I wonder if Burgess has encouraged this gait or is it natural? -
Got the Scarf and keyring (the redhead) from Jaguar. Easy.Nice.

No Zeph thats all Ive seen. Jumping at shadows maybe. But all players being fit we need to prepare for Essendon in Round 3. Id be surprised if we dont have 3 decent injuries from the 1st game. Hope not, but Im a pessimist. I expect all teams to leave nothing out for the 2nd round. Im also pessimistic in assuming we D'landers will be talking us up as the greatest team of all time before the game. I always get sucked in... I am going to try to employ the Stockdale Paradox next week - you must retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties. AND at the same time… You must be disciplined and confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.

No one mentions that Steve May is suffering from a d1ckie back. Not 100% sure he is ok to go. My other thought about May is that like a certain No. 9 from 20 years ago, he might go from full back to Full Forward if we are deficient in forwards (TMac, Weid) that cant regain form. That is his original spot when 1st recruited. Tough, uncompromising, pack-breaking, great kick. Good target.
-
Isnt that Nibblers spot?
-
I hope you are right GNF. I could see him roving to Maxy in a clip. I wonder how many D'landers are busy recasting their best 22 for the blues... with Harley as a midfielder!!?

The danger lies in not tackling HB hard enough at training in fear he might be frail. If that is a possibility, then we are setting him, and us up to fail. Put jack Viney on him for a session or two. -
It surprises many that Omac is still youngish - 23. We need to keep the investment up IMO. Hibberd has lost some of his speed and evasive skills but still has his work aptitude. This leads to him kicking round the corner or over his shoulder. he cant hit targets or do much except bang it.To me, finished. ANB Im conflicted with. His errors are there for all to see, but he is worth it because he makes it to the play. Who else is there waiting on the sidelines that can get to all those contests and butter up again? Hunt, Hannan? Nup.

Im surprised the AFL did not increase the bench by at least one more player. I read that other codes were experiencing a high injury rate after comeback. With no reserves playing I thought this was a no-brainer for at least this season.
-
I firmly believe we need to include Jackson. He is going to be very good. he will contribute even in his 1st, but get games into him. We did that with Weid. It is now time to blood Jackson.
