Really??? I guess when west coast beat geelong by 35 and freo by 50 points last year the results didn’t matter. Since the pre season comp has been cut to 2 games, form has become a critical indicator on teams season performance. something isn’t right with the eagles. They had a full strength side and only scored 50 points.

West coast have been very poor this pre season. 54 points against freo in perfect conditions isn’t good form. I wouldn’t be surprised if the dees got up

Some really good signs. This side, fully fit, can contend for top 4. Goodwin has tweaked the game style slightly by holding onto the hall a little more and less ‘play on’ at all costs game style. Entries into F50 are still a worry. Would like more structured ‘lead up’ mark and goal plays.

I think we will comfortably beat the hawks tonight. The pre season game against crows is all I needed to see that a better version of 2018 dees is back. I’m predicting top 6 finish barring significant injuries

I’m not too sure what the ‘rort’ is. If a club parts with a player before the contract ends and the player takes a lower exit fee then the club should be able to use any savings back into its salary cap.

The real question is what did the niners do over the last 4 years to get them into this position? what were the coaching appointments? who was in charge of the front office? what list changes did they make and who did they recruit in the draft??? Goodwin has no bloody idea. How he got us to a prelim finals seems staggering. He hasn’t changed his tactics from last year and all the other clubs have worked us out. No plan B or C and has us stuck in concrete boots. The ‘play on’/hand-pass at all cost game plan is flawed and invariably leads to a turn over. Players have also lost faith in it. Hawks won 3 premierships is a row (a feat that might not be repeated this century) possessing the ball by foot. Learn something from that football and adapt it slightly to suit our side. Last 4 games he is averaging 20 possession, 9 contested, 1 goal, 5 marks, 5 inside 50’s and 7 score involvements. You must really have it in for him as you are getting facts get in the way of your pure bias against him.

Adelaide looked average against us last week but have beaten red hot GWS and are now sitting in 5th. even though we lost we made crows look second rate. Maybe we need to give them more credit and we actually lost to a good team. bodes well for us vs pies

I’ve been harping on this all year. This is a fundamental flaw in goodwins game style and until rectified will see us languishing at the bottom. The best teams control the ball and will try avoid kicking to a contest. Hawthorn built a dynasty with precision controlled kicking. This affords the marking player space and time until the next possession. Our manic ‘play on’ at all costs football is inherently risky. It predominantly involves handballs and the issue is that handballs don’t allow enough separation from opponents. The 3rd player in the chain has an opponent breathing down his neck and invariably rushes the possession. This is the reason our delivery into the forward line is atrocious and leaves us open to turnovers. Another stat which we would see us last is kicking backwards. Teams that control the ball will continually switch and kick backwards until they can find a free player.

When experience goes from the side then too much is asked of only a few. No team can cope with this. It becomes easier for opposition players to focus on our experienced good players and it becomes a trickle down effect.
