  1. I hope he starts getting them dirty.
  2. Last time I went was Round 22 1987. Tragically still the highlight of my Dees supporting career. I'm going to be down from Sydney by coincidence and will be there. Will also be out at Blacktown for rd 4 the night after Daisy Pearce is doing a function for the NSW Demons supporter group. If anyone is interested in going she's doing a Q & A led by the Publisher of Women's Health, Jackie Frank. Go on their website to get tickets. Will be a great function the night before the big event.
  3. Ha! No worries. I really enjoyed the trip down to Hobart last year, although the Umpiring and the result were a killer. Looking forward to Round 2. How sweet it would be if it was off a win the week before.
  4. Nasher, I agree with DeeSpencer. I've done it a few times on Queens Birthday going back up to Sydney. No sweat for a 7.40pm flight. Dash out of the G the minute the game is finished. As DeeSpencer suggests high tail it over to Swans St or even shoot over the bridge to Alexandra Parade where an Uber can wait for you. I can give you the intersection if it helps. You'd only need 10 minutes max for the walk. It shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes on Queens Birthday from there to the airport but allow 40 to be more than safe. That's only 6.50. Gives you 50 minutes to kill. Can you just take hand luggage and check in online? If so you could get there even 30 minutes after that and still make your plane. But you won't need all of that. You can definitely do it. In fact I'll be doing exactly the same thing after round 2 and aiming to get on a flight at the same time.
  5. Stats are dangerous in the wrong hands. They have to always be seen in context. I don't think there's much point in comparing these stat's at this point. Kelly hasn't had any injuries that I know of. Tyson has played many of his games initially coming back from a serious injury after a lost season and then other injuries on the way through. Wait until they are both injury free with full preseasons if you really want to compare their raw ability as players.
  6. The comparison to last year will include tomorrow. We are going to be within about 200 of the increase last year between the 4th week of December and 1st week of Feb. That will maintain the 3,000 increase to date over last year. Last year we maintained the increase on the year before from this point on. So as you say LH we are looking good for at least 42,000. Alas winning in the first round is going to be a tall order (if we do it watchout. Saints at Etihad) but we should be good for a few weeks after that.
  7. We have a period of 4 6 day breaks in a row in the middle of the season. From memory it includes a couple of interstate games. One of them to Perth. The FD will have to be right up on its game to steer the team through this period. I can see Spencil being front and centre in that planning. Probably throughout that period to spread the load more evenly for Maxy.
  8. Spot on. Jnr he may well have been coached to do that, we don't know and I certainly wouldn't assume its a mistake. I have attended some coaching sessions with the Swans and they train their players to use it as a one two tactic. The one is the corralling and the two is having players down the field therefore knowing where to go down the field to intercept the ball because the corralling has made that the only place the player can dispose of the ball.
  9. Some observations from the membership tally so far. Although we are substantially ahead of past years most of the substantial leap in memberships happened between late October and late November. Since then the rate of increase through to early Dec and then late Dec has been at the same rates as previous years or even slightly less. So the total may not be as much of a leap as the present numbers are showing as maybe we got a lot more member earlier than in the past probably with direct debits. We seem to usually maintain the rate of increase so that's around 3000 at this point which would put us around 42,500 to 43,000. However, if through the preseason and the early rounds of the season the team shows the improvement we are all hoping for there might be a larger increase. Here's hoping on all counts.
  10. Actually its 29426
  11. Does he remind you of Paperley at all? He was the last rookie recruited last year and was probably the smokey of the year.
  12. It's a great debate. I get both sides of the argument and grew up playing in an era where the thought of ignoring your NP was sackable. However, we live in different times. I'm sure Luke Beveridge's answer to this based on how the Doggies played this year is to handpass out of the contest if you can't kick. They did this to great effect this year. Break the lines with super quick long clearing handpasses to someone in space and then this argument becomes academic. A handpass should be way more accurate even over 20+ metres than a dodgy NP kick.
  13. What. You don't think he said that.
  14. My experience was you have to think much more about technique when kicking with the NP and have to get it right or it doesn't work and this rubs off on you thinking more about it with your preferred.
  15. rjay I attended a coaching session with the Swans a couple of years ago and their kicking bio mechanics specialist spoke to us. He said their philosophy was that your preferred is your strongest and np is weaker. So not much point spending a lot of time improving what is always going to be a weaker option. They were spending their time concentrating on getting their preferred even better rather than waste time on the np. Personally I can't understand this. If you're in a game and are covered so your only option is np why wouldnt' you work on developing it. The one knock I've heard on Hibberd was in 14/15 he was becoming less effective because the opposition had worked out he doesn't have a right foot and so were covering him so he had to use it and it made a big difference cutting down his effectiveness. It's interesting we have gone so much the opposite to this.
  16. Ha! Fair point. At least its an improvement on what I won. As for the winning ugly. Didn't realise you knew me that well. Lets just say my avatar is an improvement. At least in the moustache.
  17. I don't have to debate a scarf over a cap this year. The Club sent out an email a week or so ago offering caps to 10 people who signed up on that particular day. I signed up and got a call today saying I've won one of the caps. Yippee!! The only other thing I've ever won was the ugliest set of candle sticks you've ever seen that I commented on as such before I won them. It's an omen. Go Dees!!
  18. DD you're joking right. You're obviously not an asthmatic. People die from not being able to breath, little own try to do intense training when they can't breath properly. And you don't think that would impact him being able to do the required physical work. Everything I've read from everyone could all be true. Probably likely is. If undiagnosed asthma and OP prevented him from reaching his targets that is completely understandable and not a reflection on his attitude. Despite the fact this may not be his fault Goody and Macha could still be disappointed he didn't reach his targets even if not his fault as it means they will get less teaching into him as they have to compensate for his effected preparation by spending more time getting his fitness up to the acceptable level. On the other hand he might just be an undisciplined alcoholic drink driver who turned up having done no preparation as some on here seem to think. I choose to think the former not the later.
  19. I'm in Sydney so have the same issue. I'm sure a mass purchase of caps probably wouldn't be that much more expensive than scarves. Members caps are $30 on the website and the only pure wool scarves I could find are $65. So I'm assuming the synthetic ones we get are probably about the same as a cap. I raised this with the Club a few years ago and they said the feedback was Members preferred scarves. I find that hard to believe.
  20. How much is the voucher for? From memory it's about $15 which doesn't do much for you as the caps are around $25 -30. I live in Sydney so from memory it doesn't even cover postage. Not really an option unless I go to Melbourne and have to take up time going to the Demon shop. Would be a lot easier for them to just mix it up every few years. Ive got shelves of bloody scarves.
  21. From memory it was valued at around $8mill when we acquired it and it had a debt of around $4mill. The value remains on the books as what it was when it was bought. By the end of next year when the pokies debt should be cleared the future of the Bentleigh Club is probably going to be the next big project for PJ to finalise to set up the future of the Club.
  22. Ha, I'm getting too old to wear it back to front. I go to most Swans games and seeing a sea of red and white caps is fantastic. You don't see that with scarves. Come on PJ make an executive decision.
  23. Got an email from the Club today that if you renew today you could be one of ten to get an MFC cap. So I've renewed. Thought I should put it up here in case anyone else wants to go for a cap as well. Personally I'd prefer a cap to a scarf. I have masses of them. I have raised this with the Club for years but they won't change. I don't know why they don't change it up a bit every few years. The Swans do caps instead of scarves.
  24. We're off to a very good start.
