  1. Whats PJ take on some of the new recruits
  2. I think the move to a permenant base in Casey has been great for the club.... are they going to use it for the winter???
  3. Congrats dee_nutz your example is why this club will start to gt stronger and stronger
  4. Good luck Junior... I was just reading the article and sometimes I think we forget how good jnr actually is for the club... He has two B&Fs in 2006 (when we were goin alright and in the top 4 until the end of the season) and 2007 when we struggled.... He also is an all australian and for the life of me I can't think of another one on our list... He might not be that match winner like Mclean but he has the runs on the board and has more accolades than any other player presently at the club (more than happy for someone to prove me wrong)
  5. Besides a small article from the HS with not much depth the club still hasn't announced the captain... Whats the big secret are they waiting to announce a sponser at the same time?
  6. I think Melbourne have actually got the best deal out of the GC coming through.... If we hadn't got in the injuries in 2007 we would of bottom out 08-10 and really struggled but with Morton, Watts years and maybe one more (I think we will only have 4 or 5 draft picks this year due to the 17 olds taken and trusting developing the players) we have rebuilt before the GC thus meaning we will have a good standing between 10-15 when all the concessions are handed out, unlike some clubs as I agree some clubs will be at the bottom for more than a few years which can effect things alot finacially. The only club that is higher placed than us is Carlton and maybe Hawthorn but then again I can see them doing a WC.... Dominate club great players but there is a culture issue there and if a high profile player like Cousins gets his third strike it will smash them.... The clubs that will struggle will be Sydney - They will be struggling from 10-11 right in the middle of the concessions Fremante - They started there rebuilding this year and will be in the middle of it in 09 -10 when the concessions start St Kilda - I think they will drop off in 11-13 which is right in the middle so could struggle Western - Again will come down in 11 -13 stage which will be in the middle (Western Sydney maybe???)
  7. Well done guys with the report and photos I agree having a home ground is so important... we usually didn't have goal posts until late Feb...
  8. Wasn't putting any pressure on Watts but I think he will play alot of games. Not at FF dominating but learning the roles playing on the wing HFF etc etc. If he doesn't play I won't be upset but I think he has the skills to fit into the 22 so you should play him unless his body needs a rest
  9. I don't expect him to dominate but will play quite a few games... I know what you mean about training sessions but he will attend alot before heading to school. The other full time stuff can be promotional etc etc. Dangerfield didn't even live in the state and played 4 or 5 for Adel
  10. I keep reading a lot about Jack Watts not playing much next year due to school, age etc. I think you will find Watts playing a lot next year due to his skills, he is a great athlete and is good enough to keep up with the men in AFL. Although he is on the skinny side so was Cale who played what 18 games this year. I don't think Watts will not be a key foward which we can look to straight away as I think they will play him on the wing and HHF to learn the speed of the game etc etc whilst giving him small bursts at FF. He may play out of the square with a Newton or Miller next to him. As for him still being at school, I think this is one huge myth as alot of the players aren't up to standard like Maric rather than school commitments gettting in the way, but the line of he is at school is easy to use. Even if Jack is at school he will still be playing every week either at Casey or MFC, and like I mentioned on another thread most of these guys whilst in year 12 play school football, TAC, State carnival, AIS program plus all the training involved with each program. Being at one professional club is probably nearly easier as they manage everything. I think Watts will play maybe 16 games next year
  11. Thanks to JJJ and anyone who does a report us diehards love it
  12. I think he will be very similar to Maric this year... see him for four/five games near the end of the season
  13. Any chance Watts will be a HFF or a wing maybe a bit like Hird although he played juniors at FF at the state level everyone thought he could play anywhere
  14. I might be around Rollo or could be away... I might come to watch the first half before going.... Lets hope we get everyone on board and have a few beers after the game this time
  15. Feb 8's no good compared to the 1st for me... but I'm no good.... Funky, Charles and Heater will be there either day
  16. I think we will stay at the G and from what I hear it will be a good move... They are going to redevelop the Southern stand with a state of the art Gym and large indoor training area plus it can house our admin area. The MCC 1 Mil includes reduced rent etc. The major problem with this is it lacks a real supporters area/pokies like they have at Windy Hill etc. Training at Goosh Paddock is no big deal as it is a 500m walk all the gear is kept in the brick building there so they can run the training without having to return to the G except for Gym etc etc. (We may get one session a week one the G) I think from a football department view training at Casey would be much better, we run the area and with the new gym and pool going up it would be great but splitting the club up is the major issue and moving to casey for the admin is unviable because 1. Media issues as stated 2. Melbournes membership department is based out of the Dome which means the membership manager needs to travel one or twice a week to the dome which loses at least three hours per trip out of her work week. That doesn't include travel costs which now need to be factors in 3. Meeting with sponsers etc would most likely occur in the city thus staff are losing viable work time travelling. 4. There is no facilities at Casey to house the staff (although this could be fixed) 5. Even board members stopping at the club, they all work in the city and its easy to finish at 6pm in the city and get to the board meeting at 6.30 but if they have to go to Caesy then they would need to leave at 4:30 (meaning we can lose important board members because of time restraints) Yes the board coudl meet in the city then the admin staff need to get to melbourne see point 3... amongst a whole lot more Although I don't really have an issue with Melbourne based at Casey because we can't have our way at the G. We need to be a complete club not split which has occured for too long. The commerical world revolves around Melbourne and we need our commerical arm to be near the action which forces the football department to be close to the city.
  17. Its funny that we traded a third round pick for him and Adel thought they were being ripped off but because we had a higher PSD position had to let him go or get nothing. They also offered him a contract so people in the AFL must thing he can play.... hopefully he proves it
  18. People also don't realise that the MCC is not giving us 1 Mil in cash it includes cheap rent on office space amongst other things
  19. People rate the performance at U18 to high especially the national carnival.... The reason why Swift will be a good player (subject to injuries of course) is because he demonstrated football ability at U16, now the major reason players go backwards from U16 to U18 is because they were big boys as a 16 year old and everyone catches them up. Swift has still grown (I think he is 192cm), previously shown football ability and did reasonably well at draft camp, so he has the ability to be a potentional AFL players. As for what makes a good recruit... The teams look at things like size and speed as the midfielders in the AFL can now be 6'1 to 6'3 were these players would be KPP in any other league. There is always freaks like Sam Mitchell, Peter Bell who make it without the height but it is becoming a requirement these days.
  20. I think people underestimate injuries in the competition.... Mclean and Moloney out last year... losing Neitzs and Robbo.... If we have a fit team we could do anything one to watch will be Silvia into the midfield... He is not a fwd but an onballer who can go fwd just hasn't hasn't got his body right yet.... But next year we won't get near it... the first ten rounds? we play all top eight sides from last year and travel the other two rounds to SA and WA.... I think this will set our tone for the season and although we could come back and win six or seven in the second half of the year we will put it down to development... tank a little (not on the field but in selections etc) and get the priority pick.... I know it sucks but I don't want to be there abouts up and down each year... I want a period on the top like Brisbane, Port, Geelong and a flag to boot... this will go a long way to setting the club up in the future as we need a little success and getting the extra pick aka Niknat this year will go a long way towards it
  21. Isn't this whole cousins polak thing over klemke as richmond want him but know if they take cousins at six klemke wont be there at Rookie 7
  22. Couple of guys wearing richmond tops were having a kick in the park and joined up after half time... weren't bad players... You can let the side down in a social game if you crack the sh4t and don't bother playing meant they only had about 15 on the ground actually wanting to play
  23. I nearly jump on the saints site to set a few thing straight ie metal stops, us hitting guys, bad umpiring etc, but couldn't even be bothered logging on as there is really no need for it especially what demonman said. These games are social.... there was a couple of saints players that let there team down with whinging and not being prepared to do there part (thats why they had 9 in the fwd line) but hey you get out of it what you want.... I definately wouldn't be saying we'll see you next time as these games all depends on who turns up.....
  24. gees go away for a couple of weeks and you miss all the threads Although I will clarify that this came from demonland and not the summit (as suggest, although it might have been mentioned there) the club has been working on this since July
  25. Guys just thought I would let you know about demonland heartland which was in todays members email http://www.melbournefc.com.au/Community/De...40/Default.aspx This membership idea was directly from this forum, with posters here suggesting a second ticket for the less fortunate (cards13). http://forums.demonland.com/index.php?showtopic=10627 I spoke to the club a couple of times regarding the idea as I believed that I could assist. They took the idea directly to the AFL who offered the membership department services so no third party were involved. The club has embraced the idea and kept the price low and aimed it at kids. I thought it shoud be mentioned to show that this forums are not just all talk little action and the club is listening to its supporters. Now we need to support the club in this endeavour
