  1. Even though Rich probably looked the best out of the three.... I don't think we take him as our midfield is not the greatest concern. With Brock, Jonsey, Cale, Grimes coming through I think it is a race between Nat and Watts..... Although I think Nat is the best possible pick aka buddy I think we would go safe with Watts which is what I heard from the club they are pretty impressed with him (although that doesn't mena much)
  2. Don't be a party pooper guys... everyone states we need a KPP, a mid and a ruck... with this little scenario we have an option of two out of three just wondering what people would choose.... remember it's only a bit of fun
  3. I know we are debating who we would take as the no.1 pick in the draft and although this is pure hypothetical if we didn't win against the dogs we would of had the first two picks which way would we have gone? Natanui and Watt Natanui and Rich Rich and Watt Hurley and Watt You can tell I'm bored but I would have gone with the first Natanui and Watt
  4. TJ class, polish and skills are some of the best in the league... if not the best.... he is just lazy and can't produce it each week.... cj is not even in his league although he may undertake the same role TJ was going to be given TJ could see things on the football field most others could not.... I don't know how many times I thought what the f$%k TJ and it would set up the play or hit someone on the chest.... TJ could win a brownlow and be remembered as an elite midfielder if he had the work ethic of jones or brock
  5. RR I always wondered that myself.... is the reason we don't have a superstar at Melbourne because of the poor facilities/limited budget or because we never got someone good enough? Do the kids progress better at other clubs? p.s I agree we shouldn't skimp... but lets not go silly on development spending
  6. Yes and no... most business stay within their primary market but alot diversify their interests.... It's about spreading the risk around so when something goes down like our form we have something that helps it out (outside revenue) and when our form is up and making money for the club through sponsership/members etc we can put a little extra in the other revenue stream to make us money in the bad times.
  7. RR sadly we have been skimping for years and still made finals in seven of the last ten years.... If we put all our efforts into the football department then we have a bad run with injuries, retire superstars our revenue will decrease and we will be in the same situation as now.... we need to generate income that isn't effected by our performance regardless of commercial risk most of our board are fairly smart in the business world, so I'm sure we could find something
  8. As long as we get discounts when we show our dees membership
  9. RR I agree the MFC can't get enough coin at the moment is racking up the debts to pay for day to day running of the club. The interest on 4.5 must be around 400K.... if we didn't have all the debt just putting the interest payments in an account paying 10% compound for 10 years we would have a return of 6.5mil. We don't need to spend more on football operations and facilities although these are great things and our primary business is winning matches, we need to establish revenue streams away from football... Purchasing pub and clubs and running them is one way... nightclubs are another... property development.... share packages.... I don't care if they buy all the strip clubs and brothels in Melbourne... if we can suck it up for another eight years with only modest spending on the football department (compared to the big clubs) and get an asset base that allows a revenue stream that isn't concerned where we finish in football we would enable ourselves to avoid any talk of moving/folding etc Wolf
  10. HT The collingwood loss isn't an actual operating loss and sadly its the same with most clubs.... it's actually on paper not cash at bank. The collingwood loss is because the bought a pub 'the beach' for seven million dollars. On the balance sheet it is an asset for seven million but with the property downturn and the pub not going so well they have revalued it at five million... instant two million dollar loss but it doesn't do that much to them as they are not selling it.... If in five years the property market is up the pub is going great and they revalue it at ten million... bang instant three million profit and they haven't sold it.... During that five years they have also made revenue from the asset. The problem is clubs also include assets like stadiums and stand which eventually have to be written off. When the MFC invest 500K into the new stadium we will put that as an asset but really it is worthless... so over time when we are making a profit we will slowly down grade the asset to mean we don't get hit with one big 500K write off.... I'm not an accountant but I'm pretty sure this is right.... I think alot of media beat up happens over profit and loss when the figures are reported... Although I haven't read MFC Profit&loss statement or their balance sheet I don't think our problem is writing off assets rather cash flow into the club.
  11. HT The AFL only recognise certain members which is included in the official membership or full members as other clubs call them... all other members are not included... I'm not sure about our total but last year the $40 MCC/MFC membership was included into the official membership by the AFL due to the large amount of MFC members at the MCC. I'm sure the 29500 is our official membership including the above mentioned.... there are other members like the red and blue army that are not included in our total I might be wrong about the 29500 but I hope that helps Wolfmother
  12. I know Col is playing well at FF but I would love him to step up in maybe rd 18-22 and have a run in the middle....
  13. Wasn't there an article with TJ stating that if you didn't put your body in at Brisbane... the leadership group would pull you aside and give it to you as well as the whole club... Hopefully DB is trying to create the same culture at MFC... it may take three years with some of the older players disappearing but looking at the new leaders of the club... miller, brock, jones they would all pull the player aside and tell them exactly what should occur
  14. The no.1 will have pressure to be a good player... but if we pick rich or watt will we expect them to market /be the face of the club
  15. I agree there is no saviour but he is not only being hyped up as a gun but a face for the club etc etc which will make it difficult for him
  16. Don't think it is was an actual question.... but they are planning to use the survey to find out where members want to put there money
  17. I'm one of the people who want us to draft Nick Naitanui but the pressure on him will be enormous. I keep reading he will be the saviour of the team .. bring the corporates on board ... marketing king ... Gees much pressure on the kid????
  18. My mistake... I thought I read that he was in the twos
  19. He can nominate for both drafts.... The national draft you can't put a price on your head.... but a club could easily sign a new contract in rd 1 which avoids this.... As for the 1PSD you wouldn't use it on cousins... most won't want him so you could have two spots on the list and use pick 10. and even though he is his 30 he would be great for a couple of years to teach the younger midfielders even to put melbourne in the media.... even bad press has melbourne in the press I would rather have cousin on the list than someone like weetra at pick 76
  20. He is named in the Sandy twos
  21. The dual membership idea and giving the ticket to a charity group has been sent to the MFC. The MFC membership manager will speak with the AFL about it next week and the concept has been sent to the board. When asked about the possibility of it actually occuring, it seems the club is being guided by the members survey and how members would like to financially support the club via alternate membership types Good to see the club is embracing it's members concepts...
  22. Bubs I agree and it pissing me off that people think it is... I will give my case as an example and hope that some non MCC may start to understand that we are not the problem. I have been a member on and off for the last 19 years... I'm only 28 now so the 'off' years were through the late teenage years. I have been a member of the MCC for seven years as well as the club for about eight. I purchase a MFC/MCC full membership and a social club membership... it costs me $250. I have never used the ticket to go in to a match as I go to the members, I have never attended any social functions... In fact I get no benefits from the membership at all besides and email and that I want to donate my money to the MFC as I love the club... how is me paying $250 any different from any of these ideas to pay $200 to the club 18.58 per fortnight, $150 for another 150.... I pay $400 for the MCC and I am not a well off toff as I had a normal job so really I just donated some money because I felt like it... Besides the benefit of knowing you support the club what incentive is there to buy a membership.... there has been other discussions on this.... but as I mentioned last time something as simple as a ticket to a MFC function with all players attending for MFC/MCC full members only that cost $50 (cover costs) at crown (I know its $120 a ticket but some of that can be taken from the membership) would see members upgrade there tickets from $40 and the club could make an extra $40. Sorry about the RANT...
  23. That is the business idea which will hopefully be making me money... But I can use our site to assist the club... when the ticket is released it doesn't have to be sold, that is only an option on the sell that I'm hoping members of big clubs will take up... The ticket can be returned to the member who can give it away... I can build in an object to the site which allows that ticket to be donated to the MFC, so double members gave donate a ticket to the people in vulnerable situations. I will then coordinate this donation and print the tickets out and have them delivered to the appropriate person in charge of the groups mentioned (suicide prevention, foster childrens, reach foundation etc etc). The groups would be coordinated by the MFC who would need to give me a contact name, address and how many tickets they needed. I'm sure I could coordinate a reply from the groups/article/photos that could then be posted on the MFC site and sent to the double members in an email to show them the enjoyment of their donation
  24. Cards13.... I don't know who at the club we have to contact but I'm happy to throw my support behind it. I have created a website/online business which is about to be complete the task you mention above. The site is creating a secondary ticket market which allows people to sell tickets to games they are not going too. The site has a guarantee on tickets provided and takes the details of both the seller and buyer etc etc (I won't go into the business plan). If your in london ManU and Chelsea have just signed on with viagogo which is the same concept as my site. I meet with the AFL in Feb and I had a meeting with Telstra Dome last week. I have put a proposal to them about which allows for the AFL club membership ticket (mainly reserve seats) to be released in electronic form.... that ticket can then be sold on my site or given away etc etc. My main effort is for Telstra Dome and Essendon due to their size. I am happy to do the work for Melbourne to help the double membership group, the club needs to get ticketmaster to release the ticket but that is done now my Geelong and West Coast. Adelaide have this system in place with BASS so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I can do the release of the ticket and my company can handle all administration in getting the tickets to groups nominated by MFC (my company only makes money when tickets are sold but that is not viable for MFC). I am also happy to do some marketing work to get the double membership group off the ground (although I feel like I am a double member beingMFC/MCC ) If anyone knows who to contact at the club PM and I will send my email address etc etc I have attached one of the mock up pages we did not the Telstra Dome proposal.. obviously it has Essendon rather than Melbourne
