  1. Jones Daylight Jones is the only player who has had a consistent season.
  2. Brown can't kick and his awareness and decision making are poor so he gets caught with the ball too often and is not damaging with his disposal. Yes he is as brave as the day is long but he is no longer an AFL standard player. Cannot possiby be retained on the list. Teams that finish second last don't retain players like Bizzell or Brown or Ward to name a few. Teams that finish 2nd last aren't at the right time on the Premiersip clock to carry depth players, its not about winning maximum games next year, its about winning a Premiership as soon as possible. Spots on the list are precious. 30 year old depth players who are no chance to be in the next premiership are not worthy of one of em. Have to get the new talent in to develop behind our 23 n unders.
  3. We are the Yo Yo Dees becasue our senior players cannot play consistently good footy. Yes they have talent but they simply don't display it consistently and can't work their way back into games when they start poorly. The likes of Yze, White, Bruce, Green and Johnstone are the guilty parties for mine when it comes to our inconsistency. The next generation looks harder, tougher and just as skilled as as the names I have mentioned. We must no longer tolerate softness and inconsistency.
  4. Sheedy was the best Coach/List Manager/ Brand Builder of the 80s and 90s. Unfiortunately its now 2007, he is past his best, the Bombers know that, thats why he has not been offered a new contract. A definite NO.
  5. He bears an uncanny resemblance to the late great Grant Maclennan of the Go Betweens.
  6. Lets face it Neale's time was up, the season was done and dusted, Neita is excused for making the comments on the basis of his efforts on the field over 15 years. I like Alastair Clarkson's comments. Rest assured Alastair that you won't even make it to 10 years at the Hawks without a flag along the way.
  7. Dunn can play as a Ryan O'Keefe type pushing into the midfield. Plenty of room for both Newton and Dunn. Given the season is gone Dunn should come in, put him down back if necessary - did ok on Cornes - to further his development.
  8. White is a follower not a ruckman. The centre circle has robbed him of his main asset, the use of his leap at centre bounces. Has hard hands so his overhead marking is poor. Gets lots of possessions in space but his decision making when in possession is slow - "stops, props, stops, props again" - and rarely does he hurt the other team with his possesions. And of course he has no physical presence whatever. As guilty as Bruce, Yze, Johnstone and Green when it comes to our inconsistent performances in the Daniher era.
  9. Handled with dignity by Daniher and the club. Gardiner said the issue would come into play once the season was done and dusted which it well and truly was after one of the more insipid efforts by a Melbourne team that I've seen last Friday night. Daniher's time was up after a 10 year stint. He is a decent and good man but that does not necessarily make him the right person to coach the Melbourne Football Club. Ultimately he is damned by the fact that not once during his 10 year coaching stint did we finish in the top 4 at the end of the home and away season - it is hard to forget that we missed the double chance last year because of 2 losses to the wooden spooners - and thus secure the double chance.
  10. The Daniher era is over. Another 10 years and another 10 years without a flag. To be fair Daniher leaves a better list than that left by Neil Blame. But there are still some hard decisons to be made about trading senior players who have talent but don't play at their best or near their best often enough so we can go into the draft with say 3 Top 10 Picks and 1 Top 15 Pick - giving our rebuild a firm foundation when added to the mainly 25 and under talent in the untradeable category below. Also hard decisions need to be made about whether spots on the list occupied by veteran players who aren't going to be part of a flag challenge would be better filled by untried talent. Of course not everyone nominated below will be delisted or traded, but it is a time for hard decisions not tinkering. Tradeable And Might Produce A Top 10 pick - Bruce, Johnstone, Green Simply too much of a gap between their best and worst. Would prefer Bruce and Green to go before Johnstone. If they do stay then they must accept that they have slipped in the pecking order, players like Maclean, Jones and Sylvia who are tough and can get their own ball and use it and are natural born leaders have overtaken them. Tradeable But Limited Value - Simon Buckley, Ryan Ferguson, Jamar (ruck so may have surprising value), Miller, Moloney (If he can't beat OP then what value is he), Wheatley, Pickett (if kept base contract plus performance weighted - pun intended - contract) Never seen play - Neville (seems gawn), Weetra (not many first year players delisted) Untradeable - Neitz, Maclean, Jones, Sylvia, Dunn, Bate, P Johnson, Davey, Rivers, Petterd, Bell, Bartram, Whelan, Frawley, Newton, C Johnson, Nathan Carroll. Robertson & Macdonald & Whelan - deserve to finish in Red and Blue if price is right. Delist - White (may have some trade value), Yze, Brown, Godfrey, Bizzel, Holland, Ward Elevate - Neaves, maybe Hughes As for the rest of the year, its time to play the kids, players such as Yze and Brown can be bought back for a Round 22 farewell in what will also be Danihers farewell game. Go the Dees!
  11. When I arrived at the ground and saw that Neitz was out I assumed Newton would come in. But no Yze was the replacement. And lo and behold it quickly became apparent we were lacking a tall up forward. Who would have thought? Who could have predicted that? Who would have thought? Newton may have made no difference, or Dunn, but at least they would have been a tall marking target up forward and would have caused more match up issues for Terry Wallace. Sheer stupidity. Nothing more, nothing less.
  12. Long time member of Bell fan club here. Bell has developed nicely. Drafted bottom age as a very skinny kid who was always going to take time to develop. Is quick, has a strong body and good disposal, and his spoiling today was fantastic. I will watch with interest for the mea culpas!
  13. Ferocius attack on ball and man, reads the play well and plays the centre corridor, great footwork, rarely gets caught holding the ball when tackled, kicking is solid but can be improved though at least when he gets the ball his first instinct is to kick it long towards our goals.
  14. The 2 tackles by McDonald and Jones were crucial for mine in. Junior has been a good servant, and Jones could become a club great but poor execution of tackle technique from both in giving away blatant frees for in the back when they would have got frees if they had rolled the players. Davey played a darn good game for mine. Now if only we had Alwyn in the forward line when Aaron goes into the midfield and defence.
  15. I was impressed with Sylvia today. He is very strong over head for his height, good skills, runs hard when required and has that ferocity at the contest, that will to beat his opponent which is so hard to teach a player. His ongoing management of OP may prevent him becoming a full time midfielder but as a strong marking tough goal kicking half forward who runs to the right spots and who can spend some time in the midfield he will still be a very important player for us.
  16. Legitimate tackle. Cornes saw Pickett coming at pace yet failed to brace himself, tried to kick instead of handball so his arms were going to be pinned by Byron in the tackle - if he had tried to handball his hands would have been above the tackle. If you ban this sort of tackle you might as well be playing touch footy. And no I am not a hot blooded poster.

    Sylvia

Sylvia is hard at it, can get hos own contested ball, is strong overhead, runs to the right spots and is a good kick. His ongoing OP is a concern but I thought his game today was encouraging.
  18. "White to crash and bash Lade" 195cm followers tend not to be the crash n bash types. White hasn't crashed n bashed in over 200 games. Can't see him starting now.
  19. Yes we have injuries. But after 10 years I judt don't think Daniher has what it takes as a coach to land us a premiership - and given thats why we play the game that means he has to go at the end of the year. Its not like he has only been given a few years, its his 10th season. Tactically he is a follower not an innovator when it comes to gameplans, - and he really struggles during matches -and he can't seem to get us to play tough hard consistent footy - witness the 2 losses to the Blues that cost us a top 4 spot last year. Obviously we can't get an Eade, or a Roos, or a Worsfold or a Matthews.. its up to the Board to identify the next generation and pick the best. 10 years is simply enough.
  20. We haven't had a Nm I Ruck since, since...Strawbs' O'Dwyer. Stynes was, and White is, a follower. Neither strong overhead or physical. We've always been told of course that they were like an extra midfielder, which to a degree they were. However the problem was, and is, that extra midfielder comes at the expense of a contested marking capabilties and grunt. Jamar can take a contested mark, has a good leap to go with his 198 cms - he does need to improve his possession rate but I like the way he wraps players up in a tackle and the fact that he is in the contest in a contested marking situation unlike White who may as well be sitting in the stands with me. Neaves is showing good sings for Sandy. Don't think we'd lose much in 07 with a Jamar/Neaves ruck division.
  21. So it was Headland's fault that Sellwood made a remark that Headland interpreted as being a sexual reference to his daughter? He was held accountable for his actions. He went to the tribunal and told his version of the events, did you really expect him not too? As I said earlier the umpire corroborated that he heard Headland tell Sellwood that the tattoo was of his daughter and Peter Bell also said that Headland told him on the bench that Sellwood has made a remark about his daughter. If you have any grievance it is with the tribunal not Headland. Headland should have been suspended but for a lesser number of games because of the provocation. Sellwood should have been subject to more intense scrutiny by the tribunal than he was.
  22. Did Headland bring Selwood into it, or did Selwood. For mine the reflex reaction of Headland to Selwood's sledge indicates that he interpreted Selwood's comments as being about his daughter. Certainly the umpire said that he heard Headland tell Sellwood that the tattoo was of his daughter in response to Sellwood's first sledge and Peter Bell also said that Headland said to him on the bench that Sellwood had referred to his daughter. Then if moronic Melbourne fans are parking their brains and basic decency at the gate and abusing Headland for the entire match it is they who are bringing his daughter into the match. His response was perfectly understandable.
  23. Zero and 4 and the season is gone. Yes we have injuries but we just seem to have no game plan - or if there is one then the players certainly don't have any great understanding of it. I am afraid that after 10 years Daniher's time is up. He will leave the list in far better shape than the one he inherited from Balme but he lacks the tactical sharpness required to be a top coach. And possibly he is also too nice a guy. Ten years is simply enough. Positives Paul Johnson demonstrating that he can play in defence. Knows how to punch the ball in a pack and is athletic and skillful for someone of his size. Jones continueing to impress as a hard running tough inside midfielder. Sylvia making it back onto the field - he has pace, a footy brain, likes it tough, cnaq mark it and kick it. Moloney reminding us of his talent. Jamar still improving. After 20 years of our Nm 1 Rucks being followers Dees fans are confused about the essential roles of the Ruckman. Jamar is improving at the centre bounce, ball ups and throw ins, can actually mark overhead and when he tackles he tackles hard. He does need to improve his possesion rate but that is secondary to his ruckwork, marking and physicality. Neaves continues to impress in the ruck for Sandy. Good tap work, good mark, mobile and a good kick. Dunn again showed today that he is a natural forward. First year draftees making it into the Sandy ones. Newton doing the same.
  24. Has been developing nicely. Is a nice height, has pace and a strong body and his kicking is good. I think he can also get better overhead.
