in an alternative view to the doom and gloom it is possible that a sponsor has been signed but the announcement will happen after the final NAB Cup game where we will wear the 'irish' jumper with the Reach logo...

An enlightening post Fork. Thanks also for the links to organisations that address some of the key issues that you have outlined. Provides a constructive way to assist the people of communities like Yuendumu. WJ could Fork's post be turned into an article or highlighted in some other manner. Too important to be buried in a Demonland thread.

Liam Jurrah: charged, on bail and discussion closed for now
demoniac replied to dee-luded's topic in Melbourne Demons
There is an idea. Are there specific groups working woth indigenous central Australians in remote communities like Yuendumu and major centres like Alice Springs. Making a donation to relevant organisations would be a constructive way for Dees fans to address the challenges faced by Liam Jurrah and the indigenous people of central Australia. -

I am disappointed but not surprised in some of the comments of some my fellow Demonlanders. It is a sad and incredibly complex issue and one in which the story is still unfolding. -
Looks like after one pre season under Neeld and Co we are finally on the way to mastering the press. Thats making the jump from the Dean Bailey 2007 era game plan to 2012 era game plan. Intensity also good.
-
Saints should get the 4 points. They were at the ground ready to play. Bombers were not. Simple really.
-
Jamar stupid, just stupid.
-
Intensity good. Positional running and decision making a work in progress. Which is always how it was going to be. In the change from Bailey to Neeld the playing group is having to jump from a 2007 era game plan to a 2012 era game plan. Davey seems to have a bit of zip back. Conditions not improving!
-
Its going to take time for the players to learn and implement the positional running required when implementing the press.
-
Moloney should have used the Rugby Union up and under kick to give our players running fwd a chance rather than blazing away.
-
like the deestensity so far.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooo Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees! Sounds like conditions are circa Darwin Dees v Port 2010. Conditions that night were tough for those in the stands let alone the players.

Sponsorship negotiations are not as easy as some here appear to believe. Perhaps we could already have signed a sponsor but for a significantly lower amount than our valuation of the front of jumper slot. The reality is that the majority of the 'value' for the sponsor comes in season once games have begun. Exposure on free to air and foxtel and in newspapers in footy season. Team photos can be reshot or photoshopped, jumpers will arrive etc. Better to get the deal right rather than panic and sign a bad deal.

According to Champion Data Strauss had a kicking efficiency of 75% under pressure in 2011 - the second highest % of any player who played at least 9 games.

Dees have recruited the 2011 Nth Melbourne Club Doctor.
-
James Wall has had an offer from Williamstown. German is a big fan.
-
I reckon he has done the same thing before, perhaps in the early 90s ie withdrawn sposnosrhip and walked off in a huff.
-
GWS will only be interested in Pendlebury if his Dad is a gun recruiter.

If Misson is a PIA to work with as you state and this will impact on our ability to appoint replacements for Daff and Fried how did the Saints convince Dr Tim Barbour to join the them at the same time as they themselves were appointing Misson to head their Sports Science Department? After all Misson had been at the Swans for the previous 7 years so the reputation you attach to Misson would surely have been known amongst the sports medicine fraternity and Barbour would not have joined the Saints. Of course as I have previously stated the fact that he worked with Dr Nathan Gibbs for 7 years at the Swans and with Dr Ian Stone and Dr Tim Barbour for 4 years at the Saints does make your case somewhat perplexing.

Phil Scully offered GWS gig in November 2010!
demoniac replied to bing181's topic in Melbourne Demons
I hope GWS rememember which Scully is the player and which is the gun recruiter. Don't think they'd have a jumper big enough for Phil. Anyway. Good riddance to bad rubbish as they say. We are better off now that we have no association with the Scully family. Yield to Neeld. -

Very glad that we are free of the entire Scully family # blackcloudlifted Go Dees! -
Misson was at the Sydney Swans from 2001 till 2007. Nathan Gibbs was the Sydney Swans Club Doctor for all of that period. Misson was at St Kilda from 2008 till 2011. Ian Stone and Tim Barbour were the St Kilda Club Doctors for all of that period. Given the length of time they were working with Misson it is reasonable to conclude that they managed to work together harmoniously.

Hardly see it as a jobs for the boys approach. Brett Lovett is a highly respected coach at VFL Level who only left Sandringham because the Saints wanted a fulltime coach in that role and Lovett has a nursery to run. Obviously the increased numbers in the development coaching ranks at the MFC mitigates the need for a full time Casey coach.

I have never enjoyed reading the Age and the Herald Sun as much as I did this morning. I even went out and bought a hard copy of the Herald Sun. For the first time since Northey we have a coach with a hard edge. And I like it. I have no issue with what he said and I am sure there is nothing in there that he would not have already told the players. Since the Swooper era we have just not been hard enough. Sure we had ordinary facilities and not much money but so did the Kangas and they won 2 flags in the 90s. Meanwhile our football departments were tolerating gifted senior players who showed little defensive intent or hardness and were consistent only in their inconsistency. A wasted generation. Fast forward to the 2011 post season and the rebirth of the Dees under Stynes now sees its final foundations in place with some highly respected coaching and sports science appointments. Mark Neeld comes from a Collingwood that has played off for the flag in each of the last 2 years. They won the 2010 flag in the toughest of circumstances having to regroup from a draw. David Misson arrives from St Klda and the Swans. Teams he has conditioned have played off in 4 Grand Finals plus a Grand Final replay. Both teams were conditioned for brutal contested footy. Neeld and Misson knows how their elite players prepared. What times they ran. What weights they did. Neil Craig comes from Adelaide with a unique mix of elite sports science and coaching experience. He knows how elite Olympic athletes have prepared for competition. He has been a senior coach at both AFL and SANFL level. He was in demand from numerous other AFL clubs. An ideal mentor for an assistant coach stepping up to a senior position for the first time. Neeld, Misson and Craig are shaking the joint up. Insisting our players are elite in their preparation and disciplined in their play. Demanding that this generation transform their potential into performance. And I for one am bloody excited. Go Dees!
